Why is Atlas Park always the target?

Let me start off by saying I am not in any way talking about why players are always there. I'm talking about why are villains always trying to strike there. Recluse's map on his meeting table has crosshairs on it, Neuron's portal shows it, it's the first mayhem mission, why?

I think Galaxy City would make more sense, it has more statues, the Freedom Corps main building, the MAGI vault, no litter, no graffiti, less crime, and more Longbow. It has even been around for a longer time.

Atlas has the City Hall, that's about it... yet it has graffiti, a couple of Longbow, ruins, a ton of Hellions, and is more trashy...

Wouldn't it make more sense for Recluse, Cole, and all of those other baddies to try and strike Galaxy City instead?

Because it's recognizable. It's the same reason aliens always blow up the statue of Liberty.

Galaxy City has all that crap I listed above, isn't that a little more recognizable? It has like 200,000,094 statues.

I'm not sure it can really be explained - it just is

When CoH launched, there were 2 starting zones, but one of them, for some reason, seemed to attract far more players than the other - you'd need to ask all the early players why they chose it ahead of Galaxy City .p

To me, it's more for meta reasons. It's the same way Hollow Point is trying to take down the government "of the city" rather than the whole country, why aliens always invade Paragon City, why foreign conspiracies always come to Paragon City and so forth. It's all we have, so naturally, everything centres around that.

And Atlas Park is the centre of that city, so naturally anything aimed at the city is aimed at Atlas Park. I'm not a big fan of that, personally, as it bears the heavyhanded "Arachnos vs. Longbow" design that seeks to sweep us all under the same banner. Because if I'm in Paragon City, then surely I care about Atlas Park more than anything else. That's where City Hall is! That's where Longbow will make their stand!

Atlas Park is a point of importance that the game always assumes we care about. Simple as that.

Yeah, but no one knows or cares who those are statues of. Atlas is a Grade A Landmark.

I suppose you could make an argument for wiping out the center of the government except that this is a city we're talking about. It's not as though City Hall is actually coordinating hero response.

That's a little over the top, don't you think? There are at most 200,000,080 statues. Needless hyperbole like this undermines your argument.

Because they're hoping to strike in the middle of a costume contest and catch all the heroes with their toggles down.

City Hall and the Atlas statue are iconic landmarks. The statues in Galaxy are just more statues. They're everywhere in this city. Besides, BaBs is in Galaxy, and he'd be all like, "not on my watch, pal." Atlas has Ms. Liberty, who is easily distracted by the mention of grandpa's tiff with his college roommate.

I think it's party been made a target by the way players have used it - becasue so many people chose it as thier starting zone, and have memories of their first avatar appearing there from the tutorial, plus all the extra fun of costume contests, chatting, new players mingling with vets, and just generally goofing around in the zone, it has a much stronger emotional pull than Galaxy City - it feels more like home, so seeing it under attack or in danger adds more punch to a story than if it was Galaxy City being threatened.

It has an AE building, trainer and WW all seconds form one another. Resources like that would be a significant boon for any invading army to capture, especially one that needs to rapidly train new soldiers for the front line.

Still, Galaxy City is pretty important too, it has Freedom Corps in it, yet while they are not striking Atlas, they strike

Talos - Sutter
Skyway - Sutter
IP - Tip Missions
PI - Patron (I can understand that one though)
Croatoa - Tip Missions

etc.

Pretty much every part of the city BUT Galaxy City, a pretty important part of it, has been struck.

All interchangeable. The Atlas one is iconic.

That'd be hard - whenever there's trouble in the zone, she goes missing.

The jokes on them, I always keep my toggles on during costume contests.

Although now that i think about it, keeping Cloaking Device on might explain why I always get missed for rewards.

*Sigh* Fake Answer is to kill posers

Real Answer. It's the very first place you enter into the game. It's land marks are the first you see. It's where you get your first everything!

You have Atlas, and even if you are brand spanking new it's just...Atlas Park!

Galaxy City is....well...Bland

She probably goes to Galaxy City to make sure that a certain someone is keeping an eye on the vault like they said they would.

I'd like to see a lot more of Galaxy City in the game, maybe add some stuff there that draws people to it for the next issue.

In Japan it's Tokyo Tower. Watch enough anime, and you'll see people fight on it or try to destroy it over and over and over. Why? It's only a radio tower. But it's big (really big) and everyone recognizes it.

Conversely, I have only created ONE toon that arrived in Paragon at Atlas Park, including beta time. And, well, that was on accident. Something about the place repeals me... but, I didn't like them adding flying longbow patrols to Galaxy City, either. I even formed my "personal" SG back in '05 (after the dissolution of the first four or five I was in) out of GC, and still pay the rent there. Still annoys me I have to go to AP for the capes/auras... and that I can't skip the cape mission for the aura one to minimize my time in that zone.

It did seem right to me that AE went to AP and the Arena was added to GC, though, on some level.

In the first novel, the Furies explain to Marcus Cole that Paragon City as well as the other civilizations that inhabited the land previously did so because it's one of several places in the world where the threads of fate and destiny are woven (or something to that effect) and any force that controls the land may exert considerable influence over the rest of the planet. Right now, heroes control Paragon City. There's another such locus at the Rogue Isles. Guess who controls that.

Most citizens of Paragon City aren't consciously aware of this situation, but they seem to feel it somehow nonetheless: the city motto is "The Birthplace of Tomorrow"; there's a statue of Atlas holding the world up on his shoulders at the heart of the city; and, of course, villains repeatedly try to take the city for themselves.

(I tried to put all of this in an AE arc but it didn't take. I deleted it. >_<)
