Regulate Helper Status, Please.

Seriously.

It's not being used as intended. People are just turning on "Helper" or "Help me" for the Gold/Purple targeting color effect.

It needs to be a regulated thing. An account should be flagged as "Helper" enabled. People who honestly want to help the community at large, or new players, should apply for that position for their specific server.

Otherwise, it's kind of a joke and people are just using it for the fun effects.

/end rant.

I love me purple.
And why turn down help?

Not the "Help Me" status. The "Helper" status.

/signed, though not per account. There are some characters I just don't want attention drawn to, that I'll use when I just want to solo.

But yeah. If people are just using it for "oooh, pretty colors," well, it's not helping.

Again, it should work the way it does now - you choose to have that status on or not (per toon), but it an account should be flagged to be "Helper" enabled.

the whole thing is silly i think...

Personally, I dont see why they changed the help channel to begin with. It worked fine the way it was - you should just be able to use it whenever you wish without a "helper" designation.

I still think it needs to go one step farther and give a special title/color to trial accounts so people on active accounts will know when they see them that there is a player with restricted communications.

What, do something actually useful?

No, no. They have to make all name/pet/status text, as well as the background it's on, fuscia first.

Sometimes I feel like helping people, and sometimes I don't. I can easily toggle it depending on my mood. Your request would ruin that.

Yeah it might make sense for people to have to "apply" to become a helper. But who's going the run that? Is there going to have to be extra daily work done by a live human GM to oversee that? If your answer is "yes" then I doubt anything like that would ever happen.

This new helper scheme is not perfect, but I guess the Devs are at least trying to do something, well, helpful. *shrugs*

completely agree with it not being account wide, but I don't know who would run such a program.

Either you missed what the OP meant, or you're guessing.

It's not about you sometimes wanting to help people and sometimes not, it's about people making the choice of not really wanting to help people, but picking the title purely to have the yellow title.

I flagged myself as Helper because I feel I know a fair bit about the game, its lore, its mechanics and its community, so I should be equipped to answer a lot of the questions that come up. I hope this doesn't saddle me with responsibilities I'm not expecting.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to descend upon the thread with insulting commentary, but your reading comprehension needs improvement.

Her proposed change would interfere with the intended use of the feature: Casual, user-regulated community help on a mass scale, requiring no additional NCsoft staff.

The problem you perceive will resolve itself. A mean person set as "Helper" or "Help Me!" will quickly tire of requests or offers for help and turn the corresponding tag off.

.
And we needed this silly system to do that, why? We've already had a community that helped its fellow players (and thankfully, due to the poor documentation of the genre, and specifically, this game).

This was an unnecessary, and potentially grievous, addition to the game. We already have documents and utilities outside of the game done by players, for players. We already have a help channel for players to help players. We already have players who help players through other means.

There was no reason for this added system, and not surprising, most people I see aren't even using it. I certainly don't. That doesn't mean I won't answer questions I see in chat, or help a player who PM's me. But it does mean I won't take part in a bad idea, whereby the only suggestion I would make in regards to it is to nuke it into the sun.

Years ago, when I played WorldsAway (Dreamscape, Hallway World, New Horizons, etc.) they had a similar player run "support" group - (Acolytes in Dreamscape, and Valets in NH and Hallway World, I think.)

Basically, you filled out an online application, it was reviewed by someone internally, they might conduct an ingame or email interview. If you were selected, voila, you got some brief, training etc.

I think this could be a wonderful system, if expanded on.

Who's our community rep again? <wink> ;-)

For what it's worth I agree with Voodoo Girl. The system as implemented is unlikely to succeed at it's presumed goal.

Maybe they could implement some sort of peer ranking system for helper status -- kind of like the old forum reputation ranking... *runs and hides*

We don' need no stinkin' signatures!

I agree with this. Isn't there a whole "Help" channel for people to use?

This whole new system is rather redundant.

Kept my name blue, thank you.
