Haha, what the heck?
As Dechs says best option is to make a note not to team with him again. One thing to keep in mind though is that it's not necessarily an insult. For people on lower end machines MMs can cause lag problems and demons are probably the worst of the lot in that regard (due to the thermal shield style graphics).

But yeah avoiding him in the future is probably for the best. Either he's incompetent in which case you want to avoid him or he's on a low end machine and wants to avoid you .

It's not your fault they screem and howl. There is no "Shut the heck up you stupid demons!" command. I think all the other pets are pretty hush hush except for backgroung beeping from robots till the action starts but those deamons (I have one) just do their howl and snort and gibber and growl stuff all the time.

I suppose if she/he was currently having a borderline migraine we can forgive them but otherwise it's probably full on Mastermind hate. ;p

I have trouble sometimes graphic wise when there's a lot of stuff on the screen but that's my fault for playing with a comp that was new in 2004. lol

That's okay, you don't need a dead weight, one-trick-pony AT on your team when you have a Mastermind anyways.

The emote only works if you want to make your pets run a fairly stupid emote every time you stop moving. And for the record, I hate the slurping sound more than the howling.

As for the Defender, there's a couple of different reasons they might have said that. The obvious is lag trouble, or a general dislike of Masterminds. I've run into at least one Defender who felt compelled to buff *everything* on a team, and deeply resented any pets of any kind. Especially temp pets. The idea that they could simply *not* buff the pet was beyond their comprehension, even after several team members pointed it out. I've also run into a couple of players who find "demon" themed characters of any kind offensive.

In any case, it's the other player's problem. Make a note not to team with them again, and ignore them.

I cringe when I team with an unknown MM.

Good MMs are great.
But lots of other MMs...

There are plenty of other emotes you can use instead.
I like slapreact and drumdance myself. But you can choose one that suits your taste.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.

I used to run an all-MM event called Mastermind Mondays. We'd get together and play for 2-3 hours and then most would log. I'd stay on and offer remedial MM 101 classes for anyone who was left. I did this because there was nobody to help me with my MM until I discovered the Forums. I was trying to promote better gameplay so I'd have a larger pool of players to team with.

If you wind up with a bad MM or anything else...try offer some advice rather than just going "Lol you suk kthnxbye"

Move on.

Do that and then laugh at him when he can't find "support" players for his TF. Awww gee my Demons make noise? They also kick serious butt and then throw in my DM which debuffs like crazy and YOU don't want to team with me? Fine.

I rank that right up there with an older post I saw here a while back where some one felt it was rude that MMs didn't dismiss their minons while buying or selling at WW/Black Market. My first thought was "So are you one of the idiots that leaves on every toggle you own while your there and adds to the HUGE amount of lag in places like Talos?"

I play Demons and about the only complaint I have is the dang things tend to try and crawl up my butt. I have to play tag with them at time to get in doors. Hey if I can live with the grunts, growls and wails constantly I think anyone I may team with for an HOUR?? Or TWO can survive the noise. If not go ahead and quit and find another TF or team. Besides mine are so cute and cuddly who could anyone possible hate them. hehe

You know, them expressing themselves like that lacked tact, for sure, but it's not really that big of a deal.
If you go around ignoring every player that might occasionally say something a bit stupid or rude, you might get a bit lonely.
More so... Everyone has a bad moment.
Try not to judge someone entirely based on a few seconds (even if they sort of did that themselves).

Seriously... beyond just this one silly little interaction, it's a good idea to not just assume someone who makes one poor decision is an utter jerk who you should never deal with again.

Sure, it sounds like an immature, vent-it-out freely, annoying sort of person... (I've met quite a few of those).
Maybe they'd had a string of rotten luck all day (all life maybe, hehe).
Big deal.
Were you that hurt about it?

Maybe they were actually being nice... and just used that as an excuse, rather than say that you smelled (yes, stupid joke... sue me).

My opinion,
While just spitting that out into Team Chat and quitting is not nice and hardly spreads a good feeling unto others, the personal preference is entirely okay.
I have to admit that I've often found Demons annoying.
I've never quit because of them or anything... so I'm not saying that.
However, there is not a thing wrong with someone following that personal rule if that is how they feel about it and/or what it takes to keep it fun for themselves.
The comment, though... is lame. I find explaining yourself goes a long way.

"((Ugg... I've had a raging headache all day and I really can't handle a Demon Master Mind. I'm sorry... not anyone's fault. I'm going to bail. No hard feelings. I hope you all have a great run and a fun time))"

Of course, some call me wordy.
I like to think of it as being communicative.

Blah blah blah...

And, actually... looking at the quote again, he did say sorry.
Sometimes things are all about the context you read into the text.
With the lack of wordiness most people tend to have in games, I'd even back off of my own comments about just how bad of a comment it was from the Defender.
Despite my dedication to doing such deeds, I deem that this Defender doesn't demand my defense.

I think the devs could turn the frequency down on the howls. Other than that, I don't mind them all that much. Certainly not enough to bother to make a macro for them. That said, with the demons and robots I *DO* pay close attention to them in mission maps, especially sewer maps with those tiny doors in the baffles. Robots especially love to run right into the opening and then stop dead. In fact, I once teamed with a Mastermind who had named their Assault Bot something that more or less read "I Block Doors."

I pay attention to this with zombies and ninjas too, of course, but they'll eventually switch to a melee attack and clear the door on their own. Demons might take a while to decide to move, and robots are perfectly content to stand there until they rust.

Honestly, if someone is going to kick me because the demons are howling too much, then they're probably looking for excuses to kick people anyway. "Your build sucks. I hate that AT. That power is stupid." I'm always more than willing to add such a person to my ignore list. It's less frustrating for everyone that way.

Weird, I can see a melee not wanting Demon pets blocking path but why would a Defender said "ugh"?

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

As a defender, I tend to hang toward the mid-back of the group when I hand out buffs. MM pets, especially demons, have blocked my path on more than one occasion when I needed to get back into the action. Maneuvering around demons can be frustrating and annoying, but I've never quit a team on account of it.

And I do not buff pets. Sorry.

I must admit that I hate teaming with demons as well. They are loud and too big. They are constantly howling and getting in the way. And that's not to mention the lag that they sometimes cause. It's not such a big deal now, since we are a time away from the initial release of Demon Summoning as a Mastermind set, but for awhile I just had to say "no" to teaming with one. Enough time as passed that I might play with mine who I stopped playing at lvl 12. The guy shouldn't have been a jerk about it though. I just thought my unhappy thoughts and tried not to diminish those Demon Mastermind's enjoyment.

I've got mixed feeligns about teaming with bots and demons mm's. I very much enjoy the flavor they add on outdoor and large cave maps, but on tight caves and office maps they block my view, lag behind, and really just confuse me, too many things happening all around.

I'd never outright say that to anyone, or disqualify them from teaming for that, but it is a little annoying and I never seem to have that problem when teaming with the humanoid MM types.

So, the defenders bein lame, but may have his reasons (as stated before) lag noise and chaos.

I find it funny how people here seem to complain about how the demons constantly howl.

Do you constantly complain about the sounds scrappers make when they attack, too?

The problem is that the sound the two bigger demons make is actually annoying to many people, *and* they do it constantly whenever they're *NOT* in combat. Robots clank like a refrigerator rolling down a flight of stairs when they're moving, but they mostly just hum and beep quietly to themselves once they stop. Ninjas, Zombies, Thugs and Soldiers just stand quietly and wait for something to happen. You can locate a stationary Demon Summoner from several *blocks* away in game. The only other thing that comes close is the squelchy "SPLORGH" every few seconds on the spines damage aura, or the loonies who leave something like Footstomp on auto. And people aren't very fond of those, either.

Confession: I do not really like teaming with Masterminds. I would never say anything about it to someone in game, or kick them over it, but the pets mostly annoy me. It isn't just that they tend to block doors. It's that having them run around makes it hard for me to judge the size of enemy groups, where the team is moving, or who is getting attacked by what. In some missions it feels like I'm just shooting wild, and I find myself intentionally running ahead of the group just to get away and have some visibility. It brings a level of detachment to the action that I do not find very fun. Thugs is the worst for me since they tend to look like basically humanoid, and have Gang War.

The AT is fine, but I would much rather deal without their visual clutter. Just the sheer amount of special effects going off is enough.
