I know it has plot holes, I just barfed it up on lunch break. :P Besides, if you're truly a villain even a godlike hero won't be a match for you. :3

Since when have supervillains ever been super smart?

Lex Luthor. Dr. Doom. Brainiac. Dr. Octopus. Dr. Sivana. Need I go on?

Yeah, let's see you build a time machine or a giant forcefield that engulfs the city and then we'll talk about "smart."

To be fair the really smart villains almost always make really really dumb decisions.

Of course they do - they're villains - if they were smart, they wouldn't be doing evil things

Cause if it's Science,Mutant or Magic having direct control over what your fire burns is quite plausible.

For Natural and Tech it's slightly harder but somewhat doable.

For Longbow Flamethrowers there is no control over what the fire does evident only where it goes.
And yet, somehow all the enemies they use those flamethrowers on, tend to take quite a bit of burning to go down, if not laugh them off entirely.

You're putting real world laws, into a world with super meta types. Even the natural supers are taking the hits and keep on going.

That's more of a tactical issue rather than intelligence, isn't it? Most scientists aren't going to be a miliatary strategist, for example.

Then they shouldn't build armies of invincible war robots to serve them

Invincible? They broke pretty easily when I fought them...

Smart people are smart enough to know when to get another smart person to do what they can't.

Which appears to be the major difference between smart and dumb - well, that and the ability to divide 50 by 2.

God, I wish I were joking.

So ... arrogance means dumb? I'm pretty sure arrogance is more of a pride issue actually.

And it's stupid to be arrogant

It's actually more of a character flaw.

If it happens once it's arrogance. If it happens twice I'm even able to buy that it's arrogance.

If it happens five times we're straying into the land of arrogance defeating intelligence when you should contract out. When arrogance overcomes success time and time again we're straying into the land of dumb.

EDIT:
If your goal is success over all else. Which it frequently seems to be.

While it's true the metas they attack can usually shrug of the fire, the same can't be said of any civilians that happen to be there. Plus I have an intense dislike of Longbow.

Also seeing as how the metas do shrug of the flamethrowers why are they still using them?

Longbow is completely irresponsible, but I suppose they get that from Ms. Liberty, afterall she never bothered to clean up that oil spill she caused in Port Oakes, so why should her troops do anything responsible?

*This post was made with a complete Bias against Longbow

And yet they're still capable of developing the most advanced technologies the world has ever known despite being "dumb."

They are not mutually exclusive states of being. It's a common misconception that they are. I've seen plenty of smart people (and I include myself here) do dumb things. There are areas of aptitude. You can be a genius and not be good at things. As a genius you should realize that the things you're not necessarily good at you should probably leave to those who are.

Xiang Yu. Incomparable warrior, brilliant military leader and strategist...and completely inept at politics or any kind of normal personal interactions. If he'd delegated some authority or at least listened to his advisers he might have ruled China. Instead he torqued off people and nations, turned potential friends into enemies and, depending on which version of the story you like, ended up either cutting off his own head so an old friend could claim the new emperor's reward (which is impossible, but if anyone could do it, it would have been him), or getting hacked to bits by a mob (so badly that the emperor had to split the reward five ways).

Have you ever seen them use them on Civvies? I haven't. Infact, their aim with flame throwers seems to be pretty good, that even when civvies are around, the civvies are running away out of the area, and out of harms way.

And by that train of thought, why should they use their rifles? Plenty of villains shrug those off too.

Why are the fire heroes even bothering to take on Infernal? He tends to laugh at them too. Or fire villains going after Infernal.

You go in with what you have and don't back down.
