The last Airbender? She's a waterbender...
Why not call it just Avatar: Legend of Korra? It's more consistent with the previous series.

Wasn't really their choice. I've heard rumors they got a call saying they would be sued if they tried to use Avatar in thier title. Pretty solid reason to not do it if you ask me. I wouldn't want James Cameron to sue me.

Teh fudge? Didn't Avatar: The last airbender come first? Also, am looking forward to this.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

I think Cameron's Avatar had been in production since '05 too though, so that might have had something to do with it.

It amuses me for some reason that Korra just from the one picture appears to have better muscle tone than any of the core Gaang from the first series.

The thing is that while they'd be fighting for a long time to get the rights to use the name. While I'm sure they could WIN the legal battle the fact si that the cost of winning said battle would not be worth the resources and time sunk into it.

Plus anyone who actually liked The Last Airbender movie (Plebeians that they'd be), would not really have any attachment to the name Avatar, anyway. They'd know the series as The Last Airbender. Its a ploy to evade a potentially crippling lawsuit and appeal to a larger audiance at the same time. unfortunately necessary.

I don't think the series will suffer for a minor name change. ... as long as Mr. M Night Shamafail stays out of it.

I believe you need to register a movie name with somebody and you have it reserved for X number of years. Cameron registered Avatar as a movie name first. TV series don't count.

Korra is a little older than the Aang Gang. She's said to be about 17-19 years old. The Aang Gang ranged from 12 to 15. So naturally Korra is going to look a bit more physically mature.

I like how, unlike the last group of characters, she looks less innocent and nice and more of a plain ol' badass.

All I care about is the casting for Toph, the EarthBending Master. Post when it happens.

Um, dude. She's dead. It's been stated all the Aang Gang are dead and gone by the time of the new series. It's 70 years later.

this isn't about the movie? Is this a spin-off of the TV show? 70 years in the future? So who's the new airbender?

In the early stages they could have been on the fence on what gender the hero could be. This happens enough in some media.

Toph was only 12 years old during the series. At 82, she'd likely still be alive. Remember that Bumi was 112.

Hey, did kitarra teach/pass on how to her kids how to blood bend?

I really doubt it. She was so horrified by being able to do it at all.

I take it you just hit reply without reading the first page of the thread? S'alright, man. Yes, this is about the spin-off/sequel to the TV show, following the next Avatar after Aang, a water tribe member named Korra on the last leg of her training in the four bending styles.

It's possible that the title is still accurate, if Aang's son is the only one around who could possibly teach Korra airbending. That would make him the last airbender.

I did and I apologize. I assumed this was about the next airbender movie. The show is called Avatar: the last airbender but the movie is "The Last Airbender."

Possible, yes, but word of god is they're passed on. Still, I wouldn't put it past them to have some old faces show up. They neer said anything about Azula. >.>

Yeah, but they decided to name this sequel series The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra.

I believe in England the original series was called Avatar: The Legend of Aang, because "bender" means something else over there. Ahem.

The only one we know is dead is Aang, as a knew avatar now exists. It is possible we will still see Aang appearing for Korra, as Roku did for Aang.

In a way, Aang is gonna have to learn air bending from his son/grandson/great grand son etc. Just some food for thought.

Whether or not old faces show up again, what I want to know is whether anybody found Sokka's Star Sword. A weapon like that could be a nice macguffin for a new series.

It'd be fate if Sokka and Suki's descendants found it, wouldn't it?

This has nothing to do with the second series. I started to watch book 2 of the first series and have come to the conclusion just about anybody was going to be screwed trying to make a film version of the series. And holy hell, did they take the wrong direction for the movie. Two of the three kids used slapstick/goofy comedy a ton and yet that was vastly avoided in the film, or so I hear since I didn't see the film and have zero desire to do so.
