Random act of kindness

Back in January I came across a toon called True Blood wandering around Atlas park rather forlornly, he asked me a couple of questions and seeing as he was completely new to Paragon city I took a couple of hours to show him around, explain how everything works and gave him some influence to get him started and off I went. I thought no more of it until yesterday morning when I checked my in-game email and was gobsmacked to see an email from him saying goodbye as his ATI powered computer didn't like CoX and so he wasn't going to renew his sub. He had attached 999,999,999 influence! So if any of you know @true blood in real life please tell him @virtue says thankies.
Have any of you had anything like this happen to you?

That's very nice. Real Gratitude will always be an Virtue and a beautiful thing.

That was more like a specific act of kindness.

A random act of kindness would be something like him e-mailing me 999,999,999 inf.

Sorry, I’m having trouble with something. You met him in January, and he was just starting. And now in the first part of March he leaves the game and sends you 999,999,999 INF?
Am I the only one wondering how he made that much INF in 2.5 months?

He could have bought it or been gifted by a friend.

It could be that he was a mystery "random act of kindness" shopper. You know, someone looking for those very few and admirable people who will do something nice for complete strangers, then reward that random act of kindness person with a specific act of kindness? Kind of the way I will always let a Taxibot know (when I see one) that I appreciate their service to the community, even though they have never assisted me personally.

That was my first thought, anyway.

Not that that would cross most people's suspicious minds these days...

Even by playing normally, you can become rich very quickly, all it takes is a lucky drop or two. I've had a friend (who admittedly is experienced with the game, but isn't the sort to only play in a minmaxed way) who came back a week ago, joined us on a team to do a TF, got an apoc dam/rech/acc - right away, that's 800M on the market.

Either that or we need better costumes.

While it's possible he went to a RMT, it's also perfectly plausible that he simply spent some time marketeering. With a small amount of seed capital (less than 100 million) it's perfectly reasonable to make 1 billion in less than a month. Building up the 100 million from nothing is trickier but not to hard. Before gleemail on my new alts I would generally spend a bit of time buying and vendoring some stuff to get a few hundred k, then spend a few days flipping luck charms to turn that into a few million (and get my scavenger badge for more salvage storage) and then start crafting the popular common IOs (Crushing Impact and Thunderstike both were good options) until I had a few hundred million which was enough to take care of their IO needs.

Sure it would be harder for a new player since they wouldn't know the tricks but if they read the marketeering forum and/or had experience with similar tactics in other MMOs it's not unreasonable to get 1 billion in a few months.

One hundred good costume contest wins could get you around a billion

I gave a poor level 10 a Respec recipe. He later showed me he got 175 million for it. He's set for life.

Spend some time on some level 50 teams. Get lucky and get two of the "good" purple recipes.

BAM.

1 billion INF.

Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!

Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

My Elec/Shields Scrapper went from level 0 (creation) to level 50 with 2B influence and her endgame soft-capped build in about 300 hours of in-game play, all by herself (no handouts, no PLing). And that was back when the top of the line non-PVP recipe cost was 100M, if lucky (i.e., purples, LotG, Numi/Miracle).

Fixed. I have almost 1.5 billion in under a month on a character that's only level 10, and hasn't left the market except to go to the university across the road in weeks.
