As a comic book fan, I remember going to see X-MEN when it opened (me and eight guys went to see it together). My female colleagues at work asked me why, figuring it was such a typical male action flick, and I just went, "Uh, cute guys? On screen? Hour and a half? Sold!" I said the same thing for the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy.

Now that's not to say there wasn't great music, great choreography, a good storyline, solid acting (in some cases), etc etc etc - but sometimes it's just fun to stare at the cutie for a while.

The flipside to this was when I went to see MORTAL KOMBAT with another group of male friends (mostly martial artists) and we were laughing at the fight choreography the whole way through the film.

So, I click on the link and I get a YouTube ad, which it tells me I can skip in 5 seconds. I'm initially confused, because I'm looking at the green band in front of a trailer. Turns out the ad in front of a trailer for Thor, is a trailer for The Source Code.

I'm now looking forward to two movies.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

I got an ad for Thor. I think the internet ate its tail just then.

Not looking good though for Green Lantern.
So, Thor vs. Green Lantern is this year's Marvel/DC?

If the trailers are anything to go by, Marvel has this one in the bag.

But when the third Batman movie comes out I don't foresee anything from Marvel touching it.

I suspect this will be the case with the Superman movie as well.

Unfortunately, Nolan and Bale will be done after The Dark Knight Rises. Hopefully, GL will show that DC can be put out a good superhero movie outside of the Batman and Superman franchise.

And if that doesn't pan out, just go digging through through the Vertigo and Wildstorm franchises. Give us an Ex Machina or Y: The Last Man show on HBO.

Ayup. Also considering all the bad early word on Green Lantern, and not just from the lackluster trailers.

Verily!
I'm really looking forward to Green Lantern, and I like the trailers so far.

Quite possibly.

Having said that, Iron Man didn't fair too badly against Dark Knight. Now, Dark Knight was better, no doubt, but Iron Man was a very close second. Even with Dark Knight Rises, Marvel might still have something up their sleeves. After all, The Avengers will be released around the same time... so... who knows.

I just keep watching this a couple times a day. Can not wait.

The GL trailer on the other hand left me unimpressed. I'll go see it but this summer is all about Thor and Cap.

Yes, then the DC/WB cobrand will again be the Bastion of Suck it had been before the Nolanverse (I have it in good authority that he calls it that...not really).

Since Iron Man was released a full two-and-a-half months before The Dark Knight, I don't think it was a question of competition. For superhero fans, it was more like a continuum of awesome. It was Hellboy II that got stomped by Batman. If they had released Hellboy the same weekend as Dark Knight instead of the week before, it likely wouldn't have made very much money at all.

For me, both Dark Knight and Iron Man are excellent movies, but Iron Man is easily the winner in my book. I own both and when I watch them today I watch all of Iron Man but I fast-forward through Dark Knight to get to the scenes with the Joker.

Based on the trailers alone, Thor easily trumps Green Lantern. GL has a Green Hornet feel to it: campy and cheesy, when what i want is an epic story that has ample humor within but takes itself and its world seriously.

I'm hoping it's just a result of the crappy marketing team handling Green Lantern.

Also, Natalie Portman > Blake Lively any ******* day.

Of that there's no doubt, but lines like, "I know, right?!" have nothing to do with marketing and everything to do with a bad writing-directing-acting combo platter. Reynolds is a good actor who can do serious roles as well as dial in any level of comedy, but it looks like he has no real idea how to get a handle on this role.
