How fast is fast enough for you? Granite
I don't run much. A quick mezz check between mobs and then maybe a sprint into the next mob and put rooted on just as they see me, but mostly I tp, hastened 6 slotted taunt. I don't like running slow anyway. TP self is key number 1 so is easy.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
I am more than happy without boosting my run speed. TP works well and throwing a few more slots in taunt keeps the mobs running to me.
I remember a granite built for speed which managed to outrun me under Atlas' statue. It was pretty hilarious.

I'm happy with 3-slotting Swift with IOs. I use teleport most of the time, and running is just for positioning yourself better in combat.
On my Stone/Fire I find 22.3 MPH run (9.3 Rooted) and teleport combine to give me almost all I want in mobility.
Do not 3 slot Swift, the first 2 slots are 2.1 mph each but the 3rd is only .8 due to ED. Any run speed set bonus of 5% will give .7 and boost that power - more bang for your slot. Or use that slot for a 7.5% GotA Run Speed. You can have up to 5 GotA and they are all always worth 1.1 MPH each.
I was slightly faster at one time with 23 MPH like you (10.1 Rooted which was nice. It IS a lot simpler and faster to just target and hit f. If teleport had a 'teleport to targeted foe' function it would be so much more useful) but really anything over 22 feels pretty good.
Jak
Thanks Jak, thats was informative. I've just recently got into spending some cash and using IO's to improve my tanker and having fun with the sets trying to make him more enjoyable.
Over 6 yrs and have done next to nothing in IO sets for any of my toons so it's been a bit of a learning experience.
He does have tp which is fine, but havin some running capability has made him lots more fun to play.
I haven't checked the speed, but i currently have 100.5% run speed bonus total. Tp is there for long halls and outdoor maps, but crowded tunnels are much easier with running. I imagine taking musculature( which has run speed bonus i believe) could really get a granite zippy. When not in granite, and using sprint and ninja run, im very close to ss speed.
Ah, a fellow Stone/Fire ^_^. I just TP everywhere. 3 slots on TP so I can have 2 Space time manipulations and 1 Jaunt Range/End. Once you get TP herding down running around isn't that important. I do still have 5 GotA run speed increases and 3 slots in Swift because I hate being realllly slow, but thats mainly so that when I'm not in granite my Ninja Run feels like Super Speed.
I have my granite at 30 mph and he flys! Funny when people start asking me how I got so fast.
One trick is to select some of the armours that allow Ancients 7.5% in them. You dont have to have them activated for it to kick in of course.
I also have a massive amount of end and recharge and it is perfect for me.
The only thing I actually dropped was the def side. I just felt I has more than enough to cope. Mine was a brute so I did not want to be softcapped.
My tanker is around 25 mph and I did not want to go any higher to drop from his softcap. I think I could get him to 26-27mph. Just need to move things around!

I know! I love that. A friend of mine was on a stone tank and I was on mine. I asked her to turn on Rooted and Granite and race me. I literally ran circles around her. After the 2nd circle, she stopped moving and just sat there. You just know she was trying to figure it out, maybe looking again to be sure I really had both powers turned on. Then she asked, "How are you doing that?"
Yep. In fact, my stone tank has Maneuvers to carry an extra Gift of the Ancients +runspeed and Luck of the Gambler +recharge. |
I've got my stone tank up to 29.7 mph in granite, and I love it. I only wish that you could jump while in granite I don't mind not being able to jump with Rooted on, because that conceptually makes sense, but being able to outrun most people with SPRINT on and not being able to jump is just absurd. Don't try to tell me my legs aren't strong enough.
I sacrificed my defense, which is only sitting at about 26% with maneuvers, but I'm still impossible to kill, so it doesn't bother me. I hate having to pick TP to get up those tiny bumps in the terrain though. I know how to exploit geometry to get mini jumps and such, but being forced to pick up a specific travel pool just to play a set is lame.
So what is your run speed at currently? I was thinking of adding maneuvers, but I have not had the time.
|
I wasn't going mainly for runspeed. I have 38% recovery, 140% regen and 73% recharge. It's enough runspeed to surprise most stone tanks when they see it, and to make running around with Rooted tolerable.

I don't recall how many Inertial Reductions it took to get him to jump, but it takes 10 Group Fly to get him airborne.

I've got 25.1 run speed in Granite, 12.2 with Rooted as well.
No detriment to defenses in getting it either: in Granite I've got 60.3% S/L, 49.95 F/C, 51.5% E/NE Def. and Resistances are 123.71% S/L, 86.5% NE, 83.3% F/C/E/T.
Not that I use Granite most of the time.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
I think Group Fly is a team only buff, which would mean you can't have more than 8.

We only needed him flying long enough for screenshots.

Mine is a quite fast runner : 28.7mph with only Granite, 15.8 mph with Granite and Rooted on.
This is doable with 45+ def to all types of damages protected by Granite.
I feel it really comfortable to play with, i can easily run out of a blue patch in Apex TFs, run after fleeing mobs or anything.
A lot of sets give run bonuses like everyone said. this link talks about the sets : http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=119607
It helped me a lot.
Half right. It *IS* a team buff, but it has a duration. We got around the team limitation by having a team of toons with the power, then the tank quit and joined a second team. Therefore, you could have up to 14 Group Fly stacked with just 2 teams.
We only needed him flying long enough for screenshots. |
That is possibly the greatest things I've ever seen a granite do.
My favorite part of getting a fast granite do though, is when I'm not in granite form how ridiculously fast I am without sprint on. I think when I played with my granite brute I got her up to 24 mph, but I haven't played with her in 4 or 5 issues so I could be wrong.
Current Mains:
151 Proof - Fire/Fire Tank (50) - Triumph
Celestial Hammer - TW/Elec Brute (50) - Triumph
Amphetami - Crab Spider (24) - Triumph

@JohnP - Victory
Just wondering what running speed you've been happy with using Granite exclusively in mishs? Also, did you regret any missing powers to get there?
After a couple respecs, my lvl 50 is up to about 23 mph atm, and that seems pretty good, for me at least, and I don't feel to bad about any power losses or tanking ability atm.
Can I get up to 25, or 26? BTW, stone/fire
