Reichsman and the Dimensional Grounding Ray
Thanks for this! I had been told that it had some measurable effect on his Unstoppable, but watch his numbers, there were zero changes in any of his stats upon using the temp.
Good to know what it is actually doing.
Side note: This makes me even more sad at how half-***** this TF seems in comparison to the villain-side content.
Wait we get a Special GUN to use on him? LOL Yeah to give anyone reading this an idea of how vital using the grounding ray is I have several characters that have one now and it still has 10 charges.
I have done 16 Kahn TFs since Tuesday and have seen him beaten just about every way possible. My Tank seems to enjoy going toe to toe with him and on the last one we didn't even bother with the other AVs until Reichmann had fallen. I taunted them in close to Reichmann so they'd take damage from the AoEs and we all just kept pounding away until Reichmann fell. Then we cleaned up what was left of the others.

Anyone else misread the title of this thread as:
"Reichsman and the Dimensional Groundhog Day"?
Well, I'm pretty sure that this week must feel pretty groundhog-ish for Reichsman by now

From running far too many Dr. Kahn Task Forces this week, I've determined that most players are grossly misinformed about the use of the Dimensional Grounding Ray and its effects on Reichsman. I am therefore attempting to educate every team I run with on its effects, and I also post them here so you can do the same. Together we can stamp out ignorance one player at a time!
The Dimensional Grounding Ray removes Reichsman's Untouchable state, and stops him from using his signature abilities Sap Will and Aura of Domination. That's it. It only needs to be used ONCE. Sometimes it won't take effect immediately and you'll have to wait a few seconds after using it to begin the fight, but that one application is all it takes for the whole fight. There's no need to ensure every player gets into the fourth mission to receive a copy of the power and use every charge they have on him. It also doesn't do anything to stop or cancel his Unstoppable. So, remember: use it once at the start of the fight, and you're set. Using it more doesn't hurt, but don't be under the impression that it helps anything. |
You must have been on my team yesterday when I kept calling for the "Ray". Not so much as to think it has some constant effect, but after 30 minutes of constant assault, people tend to forget to use it, making the entire encounter last that much longer. Like you said, it doesn't hurt to spam it and is better than forgetting to use it all together.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.
Warning: This poster likes to play Devil's Advocate.
I think I will still keep randomly bombarding him with the Dimensional Grounding Ray just because I like the effect.
Also because it gives me an opportunity to yell DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS.
I tend to use it many many times. Why? Because it's pretty.

I saw people using the Grounding ray on the Honoree.
"Men strunt r strunt och snus r snus
om ock i gyllne dosor.
Och rosor i ett sprucket krus
r stndigt alltid rosor."
See, I thought this was true, but the Kahn I was on last week, people spammed the crap outta it, and Reichsman went down very, very quickly, so I was starting to think there might be a correlation after all.
Glad to see that we were, rather, just awesome.
It never wears off? Ever? Wow, that's certainly not what I was told. Both times I ran it (the only times I've ever run that TF) we popped him every couple of minutes - so 3 or 4 times total. I was told it lasted longer but better safe than sorry.
Hard to blame folks though. I don't remember getting any hint in-game about how or when to use the gun (and I was the leader and read the mission intros/clues the first time through). They give everyone on the team 10 shots so the natural assumption is that you will need more than 1 application to get 'er done.
The Way of the Corruptor (Arc ID 49834): Hey villains! Do something for yourself for a change--like twisting the elements to your will. All that's standing in your way are a few secret societies...and Champions of the four elements.
Yeah, I didn't know about the "one (application) and done" rule either.
Doing this TF last night with my BS scrapper, I noticed that at times I would hit him with Headsplitter and do a whopping 4 points of damage. Then later, after someone had zapped him with the ray gun, I'd hit him with Headsplitter for 400+ points of damage.
I figured the difference corrolated to the use of the DGR, and others who see something similar happening might too, but I guess it is some other mechanic of his defense/resistance causing the hugely varying amount of damage I was able to do to him.

Reichsman pops "Unstoppable" the Invulnerability power. The DRG removes his Untouchable power, where he takes no damage at all at the beginning ofthe encounter.

i think this is basically the same case as the power of black scorpion that the mm/defender gets on cuda sf
that power only takes ONE application to prevent him from using the untouchable power at 50% hp, but i always see people spamming it anyway
from looking at it in different perspective, neither the kahn tf or cuda sf, give ANY indication about the specifics of the temp power that you get, and cuda is even worse because it gives each AT a different temp power, thus making it even more confusing when trying to explain how these temps work

I did, once (a long time ago), see him regain his Untouchable state midway through the fight and require a second application but I'm pretty sure that was a bug since he dumped all aggro at the same time and started running randomly around the room.
What Necro said. Also, if that is he case, why not just give one character the power with one charge, like the acorn from the STF tree mission? I guess DC problems/etc. Still, 10 charges for each player, vs a one-use power? Why is that? Seeems fishy to me.

Don't know about anyone else, but I've been using it up because when I ran the Cuda SF this week, my brute didn't seem to get the temp powers for the first run, when he had the dimensional grounding ray, and got them without a problem on my second run, after using the power up.
