Art threads by Noble Savage... When we are going to see an update?

I remember the contest to create new Ultra mode loading screens...
The threads about weapon customization...
Threads about alternate animations...
Threads about enemy groups conversions to players...
Threads about building edition...
Threads about old costume pieces upgrade into Hi-quality pieces...
Threads about boosters (Seems like the only thing will see the light $$$)...

When we gonna see some update at this fronts?
Paid content like boosters is awesome, even I dont really feel any since the martial arts pack, but seriously...
All those pages and suggestions made by players were worth it?
I would like to see a red name comment, because David was so quiet for a long while, and Im afraid he could leave Paragon Studios as well.
David dont leave us!
We need you to take the graphic aspect of CoX to the true next level

He did not need to create those threads, and post in the with an update all the time. He could of gotten the clamp from Marketing about releasing "future info". Or he could be busy as hell working with i2x.

Also usually calling out rednames does nothing.

Well maybe if you clicked one of the links in my signature and posted in one of them to show interest...

on another note, we are actually seeing a few things. One is the animal pack from the super booster thread, it comes with a graphically updated Cheetah pattern, also, David's last post in the booster through hinted that he's seriously considering Steam punk and large weapons/costume pieces in the future.

Wild Wild speculation on my part but if you head into the game and make a costume with robot arm 3, and go to set the glove to large robotic. The Steampunk glove, which has always just been named Steampunk, it's now named steampunk_lft.

Just to put this in prespective we had a Tiger pattern forever and we always called it Tiger. All of a sudden one day it's not named Tiger anymore, it's named Tiger 1. A couple weeks later there's an Animal Booster on test.

Steampunk Apocalypse is almost upon us.

Well, AzureSkyCiel, I already posted in all those threads, but I think is no sense. Its a total waste of time.
Look what they did with 1st round of alternate animations.
I was expecting more.
We always have to wait, wait, wait... You know, Im a bit sick of waiting.
The only news we get about new costumes is with paid boosters.
What happened with those new Ultra mode loading screens, NPC conversions, Hi-Res upgraded pieces, new weapons?
I was hoping to see a massive cosmetic upgrade with I20, thanks to the feedback from all those threads and thanks to David, but it will be better if I only expect the new Incarnate trials and a new booster pack in couple of months.

Well we did get "alternate animations", they just turned out to be a bit rubbish and half-hearted compared to what I (I'll only speak for myself) thought they'd be.

We already got to see those in I19 beta and they said they would go live with I20.

Aha! I've been keeping an eye out for some news on them. I've been waiting for them to go live since the contest ended. Cheers!

Because the first baby step in what may be a rolling implementation clearly spells 'DOOM'

City of Heroes was my first MMO, & my favorite computer game.

R.I.P.
Chyll - Bydand - Violynce - Enyrgos - Rylle - Nephryte - Solyd - Fettyr - Hyposhock - Styrling - Beryllos - Rosyc
Horryd - Myriam - Dysquiet - Ghyr
Vanysh - Eldrytch
Inflyct - Mysron - Orphyn - Dysmay - Reapyr - - Wyldeman - Hydeous

There's no "doom" in Carnifax's post -- he's merely stating his opinion on the alternate animations added, nothing more. It's an opinion that I and many others agree with. That said, I have faith that if they add new animations (firing one of the main animation guys doesn't exactly bode well in this department) they will be superior to the lackluster additions in the last issue.

The production timeline is generally over a year long (working 2-3 issues ahead). How long ago did he make those threads? Some are already coming to light. Some may never see the light of day, some are probably in the works and are 1-2 issues down the line.

They also appeared just shortly after Noble Savage solicited feedback... extremely short time from a development standpoint. I took that to be more of a proof-of-concept pass than all we'll ever see on the subject.

While I don't find the alternates particularly compelling, many people had relatively unrealistic expectations. For the alternate animation to work, it has to fit inside the original's constraints. Some of the things players were fantasizing about would have only worked if the animation was substantially longer or had other attributes involved.

This is pretty accurate actually. I started these threads to create an open dialogue with you guys about future art planning, and I think it's worked out incredibly well. Whenever we have an art conversation internally, I often find myself referring back to a solid point made here on an ATA thread, so in terms of making players' voices heard in-house, I'd say it's mission accomplished.

As Bubba points out though, there's a certain incubation time between an art decision and something big turning up in game. So even though we've taken a lot of your suggestions to heart and worked them into our ongoing pipeline, you won't necessarily see them all right away. Sometimes, it even requires brand new tech to make some of these ideas work correctly. Rest assured though, every ATA thread has helped us queue things up for maximum fan joy.

The even better news is that we're already starting to see specific, major player requests come online--right now in fact. Take the Animal Pack for example. If you total up all the various requests on the ATA: Super Boosters thread (which I have) you'll find that it's the most popular. Well, ask and you shall receive! As one of the first non Origin-themed boosters, this one's all about popular demand, so if you dig it and want to encourage more of the same, make sure to vote with your wallet.

I won't let the cat out of the bag here, but I think some of you have an inkling about the next set as well...

Cheers,
NS

The main ATA thread was up to 83 pages of suggestions when I collated it all into a spreadsheet for the team. (Ack!)

And there we have it, David "Noble Savage" Nakayama.
His art pen is listed as a Donatable organ. Even as a level Twenty EB, he soloed the Apex and Tin mage TFs without even having Alpha Slot unlocked. He inspired Studio Ghibli's art aspirations. He is, the Most Interesting Dev in the world.

Randomly, those threads are still open to further suggestions, correct?

It is really appreciated, N.S.!

I hope you guys are enjoying the feedback on the upcoming pack and are enjoying the work you're doing!

Thank you for starting all those threads and tallying and referencing and making spreadsheets and for rooting yourself with the playerbase.

And how many posts per page do you view at?

But of course! Since the system's pretty well set up at this point, I don't feel the need to comment unless something major comes up, but rest assured that everything is read, and we certainly note the great ideas.

Sidenote: we had a project TODAY, in fact, that specifically benefited from going back to some of the earlier ATA posts. There was a sub-topic that was suddenly relevant again, and I remembered reading some excellent suggestions. Now they'll be put to use. Coincidence, but a great illustration of how these threads have been helpful.

David, I really, really appreciate everything you're doing for the community. Your All Things Art thread has been easily my favourite one on the forums in the last seven years, and it keeps getting me back into the game and cheering me up even when other parts of the game piss me off. Never before have I felt like anything I said was actually taken seriously just because I asked for it until I took part in that thread.

But I just want to say that, even if you don't really have anything to add or clarify, you should still drop by those threads from time to time, just so that there's a red-name post in there for people to see. It doesn't really need to be anything major, like an announcement or a promise. Just seeing your name in that thread is enough for those of us who frequent your All Things Art threads, and a red-name post in the Dev Digest will also bring more participants to avoid letting the threads sink out of the front page.

And thanks again for making and reading those

I have to say I always appreciate this type of info from the devs. The communication used to be awful from the devs but that is changing. I think NS here is leading that charge.

Now, I wonder if they will poll us about future content so we can guide what is being added!
