dug this ep, DIGGING this series...
I'm kinda put-off by this series so far and I'm trying hard to like it.
My problem mostly lies in the fact they're just creating drama to make Superboy angry and cause more internal drama for the team.
Superman is being a jerk to Superboy.. he gets angry
The Justice League makes Superboy attend combat training when he has super strength... he gets angry.
Black Canary proves that super strength doesn't help Superboy against a better skilled opponent... he gets angry.
Miss Martian tries to be nice to Superboy... he gets angry.
Superboy spots a ton of robo-monkies on a truck... he gets angry.
The villain-of-the-week makes an off-hand comment that Superman is Superboy's "dad"... he gets angry.
Amazo is about to win the fight.... wait for it.... Superboy gets angry.
The only justifiable anger-issue for Superboy is him & Superman, but even that seems silly because Superman is not the type to suddenly act butt-hurt that there is a clone-him running around.
I think with the direction they have taken Superboy, if he wasn't on the team I would like the show more because without him the show still has its serious tone but they actually seem more like a superteam. With this "I need to justify everything I do by being [censored] off" Superboy all it does it make the team seem highly disfunctional on a weekly basis.
I'm also calling it that Artemis is gonna fill the 'bad girl' role and her and Superboy are gonna instantly bond and make Miss Martian all jealous and she ends up 'running away' from the team.
BUT to end it on a positive note: I do enjoy the running joke with 'Whelmed'. Way to go Robin Grayson!

In a way Supe's here is SB's father, even if it is as a clone father, and both know it.
Supe's part, he suddonly finds out he has a son( sort of), and really doesn't know how to deal with it, which is actually very human of him.
SB's part, he just see's that his father rejecting him, combined with the fact he is litterly a test tube baby, who really hasn't had a chance to learn how to cope with his emotions or learn socialization skills, his behavior is much more understandable if you assume he has the emotional development of a two year hold. Now what would be interesting is if they brought in either Super Girl or Power Girl in.
Justice League season 1 was the weakest of the series, this might be the same with Young Justice.. I am having a hard time getting into this series the way I was into JLU. I am not sure 100% what it is.. I mean the art style is okay.. the voices don't bother me.. just the story line doesn't seem to excit me like the JLU did. Still giving the series a chance.. but I am expecting more bang out of it long term than what I am currently.

If you really think about superman he is pretty basic. Farm boy, good morals, invulnerable and flies and is the ultimate do-gooder with no real reason why other then he is capable of helping others.
So there options really are to either make SB a carbon copy, or to find another path for him. So he is created in a lab, trained to fight, lied to about his origins, and yet still has looked up to superman as a father mentor or whatever. He gets out, breaks free of the mind control, so its alittle understandable to be put off by a character whos main power seems to be mental abilities.
He joins the league im sure in order to get to meet superman, and superman is obviously put off at someone creating a clone of him, and i really think that alone makes him uncomforable, but his distance from SB is seen by SB as rejection.
I think we just need to give it a few more episodes. The other sidekicks are immature yes, but have had experience in working as a team and withothers and trying to meld personalities, SB hasnt, he has been solo and locked away, and i think its obvious there would be some issues. Also there is a strong vibe of trying to prove himself to daddy there, in this case superman. And his lack of abilities that he should share with superman i think complicate that for him as well and cause anger. Like "I should be able to fly but cant"
Overall so far i like this show much more then any of the dvd movies they have put out recently so its nice to see DC animation coming back around abit to the TV series format.
I like this show but I realize that it's not being made for me. Unlike JLA, this show is targeted for a young audience.
The cast forms a 'boy band' dynamic that's meant to appeal to teenagers. Superboy is the 'dark' one. Robin is the wisecracking geeky one. Kid Flash is the womanizer. Megan is the innocent one. Et cetera. They're never going to break out of these roles on a permanent basis, because the stereotypical roles are the concept behind the entire enterprise. It's N'Sync in spandex.
There's nothing wrong with that, but it's not my kind of superhero show. I hope it does well with its intended demographic.

My wife and I have started quoting Robin a lot, as we're both fans. "Whelmed" "Aster" that sort of thing. :-)
Even one of my co-workers used "whelmed" the other day, after seeing that episode. I'm really enjoying it, and even things that I thought my bug me (Earth-16's differences) are becoming part of the show's charm.
I hope it gets a long run.

Loving this show so far, the art style is great, excellent characters and good action. I love how the group is growing and learning how to work as a team. Kid Flash is definitely my favorite character so far.
Funniest moment of the series so far was when the sidekicks were walking to the Hall of Justice.
(heard from the crowd of Press taking pictures, paraphrased)
"Hey look its Speedy!"
"Is he Flash's sidekick?"
"No, Speedy is Green Arrow's sidekick."

Don't all these shows have at least one or two episodes where the 'dark' character is the 'good' one and that 'wisecracking one' is the 'dark' one? I mean the only one I can think of right now is the Power Rangers TV show in the 90s...you'd have at least one or two episodes where x ranger tries to do everything by themselves because "this time it's personal!" but of course they get smacked down and realize "it's good to be in a team...thanks guys!"
Although you're probably right in the generalization that they won't break-out of their 'molds' forever but...*shrugs*
I haven't seen any of these episodes except for the pilot ep.

I do like the show. But I get the impression when I watch it that I'm watching a show meant for teenage kids. That's not the impression I get when I watch the old JLU series, or the Timm Batman series, or hell even Invader Zim.
Maybe it's just that the training wheels are still on. Static Shock had the air of a kiddie show at first, but it became more mature and more interesting in its later seasons.

I think the whole Superman rejecting Superboy angle is bad and shows a lack of knowledge about Superman. Superman has, in all incarnates I know of, been extremely possessive about anything remotely Krpytonian and takes responsibility for it even if it isn't his fault... such Superboy.
This should have Superman trying to be a father figure and Superboy trying to get out from under Superman's shadow, but still wanting Superman's respect and approval...

GASP! Changing something that was written in a comic?! Good thing comics themselves never change anything at all and stick with characters original stories at all times.
Gimme a break, what's wrong with going through an arc where Superman and Superboy have to get to know each other and actually develop a relationship instead of having some artificially happy Father/Son dynamic forced on us.
Pretty sure if I discovered a clone that was created to kill me my first instinct wouldn't be "Lets go to a baseball game and I'll be the bestest Dad ever!"

Gotham City is, according to the Atlas of the DC Universe, located in New Jersey, which is driving distance from Metropilis, which is place in Delaware.
