Playing Catch Up

So I'm a returning player (left WoW to come back here) and I have noticed a bunch of changes, so many in fact, that I wonder what changes have occurred that I have yet to see. Is there a time-line of sorts that I can see to catch up on everything?

For a frame of reference, I left shortly after the Rikti Invasion started.

While giving you a list of everything changed would be endless, I'll just list the Issues and the Major changes they brought.

Issue 11: Dual Blades and Willpower powersets, Weapon Customization, and the "Flashback" system (Ouroboros) which allows you to replay old story arcs again or ones that you missed.

Issue 12: Villain Epic Archetypes, Co-op zone (Cimerora) for levels 35-50, powerset proliferation, and the Hollows got revamped.

Issue 13: Pain Domination and Shield Defense powersets, Multiple builds, Merit Rewards, and full access for villains to the Patron Powers (You aren't locked into only one anymore.) Also, PvP was "revamped," and has become a touchy subject. I personally never liked PvP, so you're better off asking someone else about that.

Issue 14: Mission Architect. Yup, that's pretty much it.

Issue 15: A real "mini-issue." All this really added was a revamp to the Dominator AT, two new Task Forces, and the 5th Column re-appearance.

Issue 16: AKA, the bestest issue evar. Added power customization (you can color your powers now), more powerset proliferation, a rehauling of the difficulty system (seriously, check that out, it's awesome), and super-sidekicking. (Sidekicking and Exemplaring have been done away with. Everyone automatically scales to the level of the team leader. Also, players who exemplar may gain XP while exemplared, and they can keep powers from 5 levels above their exemplared level.)

Issue 17: New "Ultra-Mode" graphics options for high-end computers, new contacts for heroes and villains, revamped Positron Task Force, Silver Mantis Strike Force no longer requires a mission computer, and "doppleganger" tech, utilized in the new story arcs.

Issue 18: Accompanied by the new Going Rogue expansion (A must-have, it's seriously awesome) so a lot of changes only work with the expansion. Tip missions were added, and the Cathedral of Pain trial was brought back. Alignment missions via tips*, and new Hero and Villain Alignment lounges which offer rewards via Hero or Villain Merits*.

Issue 19: All monorails and ferries have been merged, allowing much shorter travel times between zones. Incarnate System introduced*, two new Co-op Incarnate Task Forces*, more new story arcs for both factions, Praetorian zone events*, and the Fitness power pool has been made inherent for all characters.

* Indicates that the Going Rogue expansion is required.

Hope that helps. Definitely read up on Paragonwiki for a detailed list of changes with each issue. I linked all the Issue pages on Paragonwiki for ya.
Oh, and welcome back!

I read it all. Even some of the hyperlinked info. Feeling overwhelmed? Yeah, but a just a wee bit. A lot of it appears to only matter when I reach the higher levels, and since my highest toon is only 10, I got time lol

I noticed the SG subforum disappeared. How do I find one now!?

....it's so lonely

It wasn't a criticism, I'd be quite happy being your SwellKick.

Because no one else has mentioned it yet -

SGs have somewhat been replaced as the best place to have a regular group of in-game friends to play with by Global Channels.

Head down to your preferred server's forum to ask about what are the best globals to join. For example, I'm on "LB" for my Liberty server alts and 3 channels for the Infinity ones - "Infinity Hamidon", "Infinity badges" and "AE Anonymous". I also belong to "Base Builders Inc." as a part of the base construction community.

Folks tend to look for people to join TFs and mission arcs on globals - which have potentially a much larger membership than a single SG and even many SG coalitions.

To join a global channel, once you know which one you want to join, type /chan_join "insert global channel name here" - the "" is only necessary if there are spaces in the channel name.

You can also check in your server's forum for any regular events, such as weekly TFs or (when you get a higher level character) Rikti Mothership Raids or Hamidon Raids. Sometimes there's a sign-uo, sometimes, it's just a place, date & time to meet up.

Welcome home!

Not totally true. I use both SG and global chans, but prefer to run with SG mates rather than random folks. When I want to do a SF, I could just ask in coalie chat:
"Who's up for an ITF or RSF?"
Reply 1: I'll go
Reply 2: Lemme finish this mish, brt
etc...

From my experience, SG mates tend to afk less and quit in the middle of the strikeforce. Also, if you need help taking down an AV, there's a couple of SG mates that will help you out.

If you have a villain on Freedom, let me know and I'll get you into a VG.

Which server did you wind up creating on? We're all evil and drunk on Pinnacle (well, I'm evil, many are drunk...regardless. lol)

If you're on Pinn or Guardian, I'd be happy to do my *one* good deed for the year and show ya the ropes.

So that's where everyone went. I thought the general chat looked dead...or maybe it's because I haven't finished the rogue line yet and am still sequestered away from the general population like a leper.

Why did SG's go the way the way of the dodo?

I joined on Justice again. I remember the people there not being ****** canoes from last time, so I figured I'd go that way again.

SGs lost some popularity due to people creating their own personal SGs to store stuff. There is a limit of 18 storage devices in a base, so large SGs simply cannot have enough for everybody's needs.

We still have a strong SG (or coalition of SGs, 3 hero/3 vill), but a lot of people have their own SGs too, and we communicate through a "SG" global chat channel.

For Justice, join Justice United, you will need to be unsilenced by a mod.

Alyssa, if you're interested you could also opt to join the Mentor Project channel (in my sig).

We offer new and returning players near instant assistance regardless of the server they're on (we have volunteers on all the servers - including Europe) and can even have someone partner up with you for a bit if you're interested in a more personal approach.

Welcome back!

I like the idea of your Mentor Project, but somehow I think the mentor's have better things to do than listen to me babble on about my awesome superhero, shoes, and whatever else is goin on. I had considered starting my own SG, but having run my own guild in WoW for so long - I'm kinda burnt out on management. Just looking for a group to bs with and eventually run raids with.

Raiding is an applicable term, yes? I need a new lexicon

Welcome back. On Justice, chat channels Justice United and JFA2010 are the places to get started. Both are active general channels that promote Justice's casual nature for teaming and TFs.

From there you can find out which SGs are still active and which other channels may interest you.

If you need a SG to crash in for the porters I can SG invite you. We're pretty lame now since global channels took over but at least we have pretty much all the amenities.

Hit me up @pumbumbler in game if you're feeling discombobulated, or if you just need to chat.

Just to be clear - the N P C channel is most useful in conjunction with your local server's main channels and/or whatever SG channels you prefer.

Think of it as an add-on to whatever channels you currently use for instant assistance to any questions you will have.

We're lucky to have many knowledgeable vets, as well as some of Paragon Wiki folks who are all very generous of their time, knowledge and experience. ;-)

Is there an option in-game to show available chat channels or do you need to know the name beforehand?

As for N P C - do the spaces need to be there?

Yes you can search chat channels but the way to do it escapes me at the moment (at work right now).

IIRC the spaces in N P C need to be there. If you're on Freedom (which is where I spend most of my time, but I have characters on other servers) global friend me and I'll help you out when I can.
