I feel bad for Statesman...
Even though myself and a couple of other people (we know who we are) have posted with our support for the character of Statesman, I'll simply reiterate my support for those who have posted recently in this thread with the same purpose.
I dunno, maybe we live in a cynical age where the term 'hero' has been largely deconstructed and people think you need to skirt the edge of the law like Chris Nolan's Batman or kill 'just bad people' like tv's Dexter to be deemed a hero. Or maybe people think characters like Statesman are two-dimensional and not 'realistic' enough for their tastes (in a genre which is dealing in pretty much blatant unrealistic situations) and therefore are fair game for mockery or whatever.
I don't take any of the slashfic pairings in this thread too seriously, because they inevitably lose steam or the novelty factor wears off. Heroism, on the other hand...never really goes out of style.
I'll keep backing the big man on that score every day.

And, of course, there's the association of Statesman the character with Statesman the developer, who is oft-reviled around here. That can't help either. Plus, we keep having more and more Marcus Coles shoved in our faces as great powers, and always as great powers we must "team up" against - as if Marcus Cole is some inviolate pinnacle that can never be matched no matter what we do.
The game would honestly be much better if Statesman and Recluse were just to kill one another, and the player characters forced into the limelight more because their respective factions now have no one else to turn to.
I like Superman but I hate Statesman. I don't think it has nearly as much to do with his ideals and standards as it has to do with his portrayal. Go talk to him about Incarnates and he just talks down to you. Rescue him from Tyrant and he just goes around stealing the glory. For a very long time, he has been presented as an unmatchable power that we, the players, must always stay below - and that might be the worst offence of all.

GG, can you fix me a Mother Mayhem/Clockwork King picture? ![]() |
Plus, slashpics are hotter when they're same-gender pairings - and just based on the in-game stuff, Mother Mayhem is so not into boys

Hence why Mother and Pedojar should get together and raise Penny together

As for their fates, I am wondering if the unfolding Incarnate story won't end with one or perhaps both Recluse and Statesman being killed off...stories involving wars of the gods never tend to end well....

I'll admit, I'm tired of it too (though not for the same reasons), and frankly it would be nice if the next batch of Incarnate content had to do with Rularuu. You know, that dimension eating monstrosity who we couldn't fight for the longest time because he was THAT FREAKIN' MASSIVE?
Nevermind the various parts of the Shadow Shard and aspects of Rularuu we haven't fought yet, like Uuralur the Mirror in his Garden of Memories.
Other things we can look into are maybe a reborn/renewed Hamidon assault, revisting the Rikti (again, but this time we update the old mission arcs dealing with the Rikti too!), looking into that alien race that the Rikti feared (The Battlion), Circle of Thorns, Banished Pantheon, or maybe have a faction of the Tsoo and/or Warriors begin unlocking the potential of the Incarnate. (given that, as the battle nuts they are, they'd always be looking for some new, magical means of getting stronger), etc. etc.

Actually, now that heroes (and villains) are being Incarnates... it'd be great to go toe-to-toe with the Sleeper in Dark Astoria and take back the zone.
Banished Pantheon: "Arise, Lughebu! Behold, the Sleeper has awakened!"
League of 36 heroes: "Yeah, and SO HAVE WE! BRING IT!"
*cut to massive divine curbstomp battle for DA*
Talk about the players being able to do something then that not even the Phalanx was able to accomplish.

Still, an epic idea, though the devs might be leery about actually changing the zone afterwards. Maybe you dispatch the Sleeper, but it will take many years for his dark presence to dissipate. In time, Astoria will once more be the beautiful district of Paragon City it once was.
Also, the rest of this thread made me laugh so much. Thank you all.
The irony becomes big when you consider that Tyrant had ultimately proved to be a joke, and that this new version of Tyrant who apparently makes all other Incarnates his b@#$% and Reichsman being stupidly powerful were all things that came AFTER JACK EMMERT LEFT.

I so want the Shard redone. I doubt it'll happen, but it would be really nice.

And from this, I have created the Fusionverse, an RP group that is based on fusions of canon characters. Who leads the group?

Why, Statesline, of course!
