Tips for fast times on the ski runs

Another thing is to try to stay in the middle of the slope. When you hitting the sides of the slope it slows you down, rather significantly.

Make sure you have very good control response time. When I tried it couple years ago, I had keyboard lag about 0.2-0.4 seconds. So, I changed 3D scaling from 1600x1200 to 800x600. It made the computer much more responsive to controls at expense of resolution.

I had no problems getting medals back in the day with Combat Jumping once I memorized the course- my key to good times was knowing what was coming and anticipating rather than reacting.

I've done a few runs on alts over the past couple of days and Ninja Run pwnz the course.

And yeah, IR is the best. When I had more free time I'd park my kin at the top of the slopes and buff anyone who asked.

That's what I did when they first added the slopes - I packed my 2nd build with any travel or movement powers that would help with speed and control.

I finally gave up and let hubby run a couple toons for the badges.

We had a friend over when Hubby was running his toons one evening, and she says, "OH, that looks so easy... I bet I could do that". So I plunked her down on one of my toons, showed her the controls, and let her have at it.... for an hour solid. She finally gave up too.

Sorry, but I hate,

Same. I inexplicably got all the badges on my villain badger 2 years ago, but I'm having a hell of a time on my hero badger, to the point where I might just give up. None of the suggestions given are helping me this time.

If you want to go the "Third Build = Ski Run Build" Route, which I did over the weekend, here's some tips:

2-slotted Springfoot = 2% jumpspeed and 2% jumpheight. I slotted 5 of these, using sprint, combat jumping, and 3 of my prestige sprints (yes I actually slotted those ^_^ )

5-slotted Focused Smite = 3% run speed, jumpspeed and jumpheight. Cheap melee set. I slotted 3 sets.

2-slotted Kinetic Crash = 3% run speed. Knockback set, also cheap, I used this set too.

2-slotted Regen Tissue = 4% run speed. Since I'm regen I was able to slot 4 sets of these.

5-slotted Thunderstrike = 4% run speed, jumpspeed, jumpheight. Sort of cheap ranged damage set (it's a popular set though, despite being all common drops.)

Lots of things grant 5% run speed (and jumpspeed/jumpheight in some cases): 2-slotted Aegis (resist); 2-slotted Performance Shifter (endurance), 2-slotted Gaussian's Syncronized Fire-Control (to hit buff) just to name the easy ones I picked. These are not cheap sets, but you can buy the cheapest/least popular pieces from each set.

3-slotted Winter's Gift grants 6% run speed/jumpsped/jumpheight. Unfortunately the set includes a unique so you can only slot it once, in a travel power. You can get these cheap with candy canes at the moment.

Gift of the Ancients 7.5% run speed can be slotted in any defense-related power: Hover, Combat Jumping, Weave, Stealth, Invisibility, Grant Invisibility, Manuevers, Vengeance. You should be able to slot 5 of these. Not an especially cheap IO usually though.

I piled on a bunch of those IOs, turned on sprint and ninja run, and was able to get the gold medal slolom badge in just a few tries, where I failed consistently last year. ^_^

Also, if the game seems "jumpy" to you, turn down all your graphics settings and drag the resolution way down. It results in a very ugly game, but a very smooth and responsive one, which might make all the difference.

I finally decided to get a quick video of the race, and uploaded it on YouTube. I wasn't trying to get my fastest time. I just wanted to show my method. I came in at 40.5 seconds using Sprint, SS, SJ, and IR. I had no buffs from any other players. I admit, I do kinda cheat by jumping to the right after the portal, but that's the only time I go off course.

When people are ready to log out of the game, don't.

Switch to your Kin, grab an AE mission (putting you in TF mode so you don't auto-log out) and park that Kin at the top of the Advanced course with Inertial Reduction on auto-cast. Then go AFK.

If several people do that, everyone can get stacked IR, which will make it almost impossible not to get the gold, as long as you stay on the track.

Extra Credit fun: Get your server to get a dozen Kins doing that and watch Granite toons be able to jump.

Ignore requests for Speed Boost... compared to IR, it's almost useless.

Ninja Jump isn't enough. I think the problem is the flip you do in mid air.
I got gold and silver with just the Ninja Run on my level 22 Praetorian blaster. It is a bit tricky though but the key is only do little hops when you really really have to.

Now about these Movementcontrol and Movementfriction stats: are they enhanceable using the kin's "Power Boost"?

This is excessive. Slotting Super Jump and Super Speed to hit the caps is very easy. You don't need set bonuses.

Doubtful, but you never know. If it makes you feel better to use it, it certainly wouldn't hurt. lol

I'm not exactly certain what you're talking about, since Kinetics doesn't have Power Boost. Power Boost is available in Energy Assault, Earth Assault, Icy Assault, Energy Manipulation, Primal Forces Mastery, Mace Mastery (Masterminds), and Soul Mastery (Corruptors/Defenders). Power Build Up (very similar to Power Boost) is available in Power Mastery.

While a Kinetics character could gain Power Boost in Soul Mastery, or Power Build Up in Power Mastery, it's not something that's specific to Kinetics. And, finally, to actually answer the question: no, neither PB nor PBU would affect MovementControl nor MovementFriction. And besides that point, Super Jump grants you enough control/friction that you don't really need more; Combat Jumping provides more control (but less friction), and Inertial Reduction provides the same control as CJ and more friction than either CJ or SJ. Ninja Run has the same control as SJ, and the same friction as CJ.

Answer to question bolded to separate it from m ramblings.

Fantastic waste of money, you can cap out runspeed with SOs only, and if you want really good times you should be a kin or have a kin friend casting IR for the movement control.

I haven't read all of the replies here, but if you want to, check out some videos I made a while back with some tips. Personally, I did it with Inertial Reduction. If you are around Infinity and want to meet me in Pocket D sometime, let me know, and I'll help out!
