The Ultimate Fortunata (slotting reccomendations)

Hello everyone I am recently returning to COX and could not be happier with the improvements which have been made

I am attempting to make a Fort which will be able to do all that i want and im having a hard time with the slotting and a couple of power choices and thought I would go to the experts to help me build the all around greatest fort ever!

I am posting the powers which I believe i would like to have on my build, but they are however debatable

the few requirements are:
1)TF oriented, but however remains the ability to solo content exceptionally
2)Killer single target attack chain, hopefully involving melee
3)An AOE attack chain which will help me mow through mobs
4)Defense capped at atleast 45%

Money is no issue so feel free (and please do) go all out for me and this build. Just none of the billion dollar enhancements Thank you immensely to all who reply and please be nice

After looking many many things over, lthough i would prefer a melee oriented build, if staying at a range is that much more beneficial than i really wouldnt mind that route either. Otherwise I would prefer a in your face PBAOE oriented type character

Since you want melee options I suggest Followup, Lunge, Subdue and Dominate for your main single target attacks. Forts are quite survivable so you can do melee in almost any situation but if ranged is needed you'll have two attacks you can rely on. This also gives you a good mix of damage types since generally enemies that are heavily resistant to s/l are definately not so to Psi. Remember to use Follow Up as much as possible, can stack it's buff quite easily.

Don't sweat defense, at all. Forts can cap all positional defenses through powers alone. Don't even need set bonuses. Just pick up CT: Defensive, TT: Maneuvers, Combat Jumping (or Hover), Mask Presence, Forsight and Mind Link. Just don't forget to put the Steadfast unique in Forsight.

FYI I'm not sure you can take both Aim and Follow Up. I know the Night Widow path can't and it may be a bug that mids allows it with Fort.

Forts can take both aim and FU. Widows can't take FU and build up. It's not a bug, it's the intended design.

Fortunatas need an exceptional amount of +recharge in their builds, partly because their mind link has a longer recharge than night widow mindlink, and they don't get mental training, partly because their 'key powers' that give them advantages over NWs are on long timers (wail, total dom, aura of confusion), and partly to support a good attack chain.

The fort's melee attack chain is far superior to ranged ones. Followup is, simply put, really good for performance - and the stats on the mental blasts tend to be worse than the stats on the claw attacks, especially in terms of activation time (which is the one thing about powers you can't improve with your build).

You say you don't want billion-inf enhancers but how do you feel about purples? I consider it unlike you're going to get what you want from your fort without using them fairly extensively.

Oh yeah, "Ultimate" definitely fits Fortunata!

I am working on Alpha Fortunata and she is a beast! Yes, her damage isn't the highest but the combination of her survival, long-range, control, and team defense makes her so good in any situation! Soloing is joking easy unless you try to jack up the difficulty too high and in that case, she just doesn't kill as fast. Hover is a great skill to have for a toon that mostly does range damage.

This is my new Alpha build (Muscular) but I haven't had the time to get all the purple sets yet:

I used to have Scramble Thought for the mag 4 stun but I realize that when I solo, I can easily stack Dominate and Scramble takes too long to cast. I took it out and get aoe hold instead. With aoe hold, I'll have 3 aoe controls in Psychic Wail (mini nuke + stuns), AoE Confuse and AoE Hold. My Fortunata is all about range damage so she doesn't use Confuse.

I don't really enhance Dominate's hold duration because 1. I don't have domination so I won't be able to perma hold an AV anyway 2. I have enough defense to easily stack holds on anything that can be perma held (IE bosses).

Basically, this Fort is built for having the most Team buffs and the highest range dps possible. I took Muscular because I think the only thing she needs is more damage but I haven't experiment alpha builds much. I think I am missing out on alpha potential. My ST attack chain is simply Dominate, Gloom and Subdue and only use Scream for aoe damage and tenticle to keep mobs still.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

The following build was taken from a previous thread about soloing redspec, and then was modified only slightly. I'm currently running the exact build in-game, and I'm enjoying myself. The build has no melee, however, several small modifications could be made if you felt inclined to make it more melee-heavy.

It's a Legacy build, so don't get worried if you aren't seeing my Recall Friend on there or my Summon Widow. They were removed when I was considering some other slotting.

This is what I've gone for on my fort:

Excellent single target damage (all melee, the ranged attacks aren't great), decent AoE, plenty of team buffs and a nice helping of control on the side. Alpha slot is cardiac.

Hey,

my actual build is probably "cheap" for your purse, so you can easily swap all my cheap IOs for the purple ones to get even more defense/recharge/damage set bonuses and whatnot out of this build.
The order of the powers is random! I did not get them in that order, this was just to get the slotting right.
Also... I am AlphaSlotting Nerve Radial. So you should calculate this into the build.

I play this build with my SG-mates and this combination has shown itself as being very useful and versatile for TFs in our team. As most of us have leadership since legacy fitness was introduced, I never felt the need for taking the leadership pool on top of what I have.

Usually I stand right in the middle of trouble throwing my melees and AoEs around
and any who run away are targets for confusion/hold/stun.

Just a few explanations in case somebody (who might not know the Fortunata all too well) reads this and wonders about a few choices:

Darkest Night is really nice for a defense-heavy build. (thus why I haven't bothered to further increase my defense yet).
Stimulant is to protect my Corruptor Friends before we tacle a Mob with too many stunners/holders/sleeper/...
I use Psychic Tornado to Aid Self reliably without being interrupted.
Don't overlook the usefulness of Poison Dart against AV... it has -regen.

Stun has the nice little perk of being mag 4 which helps against some more reluctant targets.
AoE Confusion is just an oh-crap power (it's base accuracy is higher than the AoE hold).
You can drop both if you don't think you'll need them. If you like Haste, I guess those are good candidates.

Soul Tentactes and Gloom is a toss, really... I like the tentacles take whatever you prefer.

Sadly, the amount of regen is pretty small and, after AV resistances have been taken into account, really isn't worth it. The extra damage you'd be getting from better attacks (melee, gloom etc) compared to PD far outstrips that caused by the -regen.

Fortunata is one of the BEST in ITF because those elite bosses have no psi resistance when their god modes are up so you can help finish them off easily. Your psionic damage is very good in that strike force. And also, the healing nictus require a hit check so your Mind Link and leadership defense help a lot too especially if you have MMs on the team.

Lady Grey is also great because during Hami fight, your Fortunata's dominate counts as both Range and Control type? I haven't confirmed this but I just did two Lady Grey recently and it's a piece of cake. All the psionic damage from Mentalists are not bothering me at all. Drones take a bit longer to kill but they die easily anyway.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Slotted with the Unbreakable Constraint: Chance for Smashing can also work the Yellows. You are right about it having the ranged modifier as well though.

Ah interesting to know. I finally put Unbreakable proc in Dominate. I still need the purple proc from range set. It's so expensive!!

well, I'm not going to post my build.

but, While....I understand you want killer single target abilities, You'll be most useful on a TF if you're ranged-based. If you get into the middle of some harder TF's, your low HP, even with extremely high defenses may fail you.

Also, I've been....respeccing my build over the months, constantly improving it, and I have yet to find a way to have both excellent single target, as well as AoE.

I'm not sure if it's the way I'm slotting, but Forts don't get access to very good AoE's, aside from dark obliteration, soul tentacles(but that's a cone.)

Psionic tornado is fun if you put the FF proc in it....but that's a very situational power.

I do reccomend that you get and slot out soul tentacles, it's recharge is excellent, allowing you to use it alot, stacking the damage.

and yes, recharge is a big thing.

5 LoTG recharge procs, some purples are useful.

Definitely take darkest night, and 4 slot it with dark watcher's embrace, gives extra recharge and it's a lovely debuff toggle.

uh.....well, aside from that, I'm not sure what to really say....my fort's still missing some sets here and there, and he is already great, haven't died once on a TF.

OH, 5 slotting aura of confusion with the contagious confusion proc in it is fun

Silas' build is very...very obsolete nowadays.

Total domination is an extraordinarily useful power with 5 lockdowns and the smashing damage proc from unbreakable.

Also, his slotting for dominate isn't the best way to max out damage/recharge for that. 4 basilisk gazes will give the +recharge and 2 normal damage IO's will have more damage output than slotting decimations or other sets.

He also overslotted TT: Maneuvers, 4 slots is all that should be needed.

and scramble thoughts is useful for not only the set bonuses, but because it's the best single target "hold" in the entire game, if you use total dom., scramble thoughts, and spam dominate, you can hold elite bosses and with the help of another control-type, can manage to subdue an AV if you're lucky.

My build there is very old, I've yet to update it for i19. I'll look into the Dominate and Maneuvers slotting, I don't remember atm how I've got then slotted and can't check till Sunday evening.

That aside, I'd recommend you better understand the powers you're talking about before speaking authoritatively about them. Scramble Thoughts is not a hold, it's a stun. While it is a high mag stun, one that can stun a boss in one application, it's also slow animating and Forts have a hold in their ST chain so I don't think it's worth it.

Total Domination cannot be relied upon to hold an EB or AV unless the purple triangles are down because the long recharge is prohibitive. And for that matter, when the triangles are down Dominate would hold them anyway.

"Luck" has nothing to do with being able to subdue an AV. Either you can overcome their mez protection while the triangles are up or you cannot. A Permadom with very high recharge can just about stack enough mag (50+) to keep an AV without high hold resist permanently held. They do that by spamming the hell out of a fast activating Domination-boosted hold. The notion that Fortunata Total Domination would be a significant factor in this is absurd.

Total Domination has value, but IMO only as a panic button for normal spawns. Since as a Fort you already have Wail and an AoE confuse which recharges faster than TD, I didn't find room for it in my build. Maybe when I respec I'll pick it up since it's purpose (in my eyes anyway) can be achieved with minimal slots.

I'll look into it when I respec my Fort. I suggest you look into the basic mechanics of mez powers.

If money is no object and you want to do everything you want to do, may I please suggest you do what I and many others have done--make a dual build on your widow, one build pure Fortunata and the other build Night Widow. You will enjoy even more versatility and options, but retain the sweet powergaming aspect which widows offer.

Repeat Offenders forever !

Make all IO's available in Paragon Market! NCSoft, the chinese are making BIG money selling influence and other stuff in the game. Best way to stop them = make the paragon market a place to buy all IO's and perhaps other things as well.

Not the "" around hold....I know it's not a hold. Learn to read context, please.

I know about Mez and the effects they have...but what this person is asking for is something that's just as powerful In-combat as it is defensively.

That being given, no, I don't use scramble thoughts often, so it may be that it'd be better off skipping that, taking aim, and using the slots in Scramble for another AoE

Total domination IS an optional choice, yeah....it can be useful to some people, and not to others. For me, I use it when it's up to subdue mobs and then move to another mob and confuse them.

I guess It all depends on playstyle.

No, within the context of talking about Total Domination and holding mobs, saying you can use SC to hold mobs is wrong. I don't want to be a stickler for terminology, but the way you phrased it is misleading and putting quotes around the word doesn't change it's meaning.

OP: you mentioned a melee-centric fort, I have a killer build on my home computer I can send you if you are interested. It is meant for pure damage with double assaults, follow up, aim and +31.5% global damage. Also has 107.5% global recharge + 3 slotted hasten. It has controls as well and can perform multiple roles on a whim, the only downside is it is lowish hit points (1300ish w/ accolades vs. compared to my NW's 1650) and it's also pretty expensive: prob @ 6-7 billion by today's market.

It works well, I just prefer my NW so it doesn't see much use for me.
