Source Code trailer

Directed by the guy who did Moon.

O.O

Wow.

I'm not sure what I just watched...but I think I liked it.

I refuse, point blank, to watch this.

Moon was one of the best real science fiction movies in recent years, but even its comparatively restrained trailer gave away too much. (It's got excellent casting, nice set design and special effects, a well-written script with a solid twist at the end. What more could one ask for in a directorial debut, or indeed, have to be "pre-sold" in order to see it? The poster, despite a weak tag line, was enough to intrigue me.)

Anyroads, I'm content to look forward (eagerly) to Mr. Jones's next work with only minimal information about it. (Moon is out on DVD in January in the meantime.)

Vague spoiler alert!

I like this particular plot device/thingee. It was used to excellent effect in the X-files, Xena, Buffy, and ST:TNG. The one person, though, that I will never forgive for using it is that (hack!) Stephen King.

Anyway. Looks interesting. I suspect I know the ending, but maybe not.

It's like Matrix meets Ground Hog Day and had a baby.

I am eagerly awaiting the sci-fi mumbo jumbo that explains the premise within the movie.

Cause I love the trailer, but they will need to explain the "how" a little bit more.

It reminds me of the Stargate SG-1 episode Window of Opportunity. Or the Supernatural episode Mystery Spot.

I'll throw in a 'Quantum Leap' into the reminds-me-of List.

Always remember, we were Heroes.

Ya this seems heavily similar to Deja Vu in it's setup and apparent execution. Granted I liked Deja Vu, so I'll probably like this too even if it is predictable.

I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.

But at least it's not a remake?

Well, people from this thread, who went to see Source Code?

I found it similar to "Moon" in that it's a really well-made and acted film that never really lives up to its great premise. That's not really a knock- I prefer a movie that aims high and doesn't quite hit the mark over a lazy bullseye.

There's a great "Quantum Leap" connection in the film.

Yeah I'd also give it a "aimed high but just barely missed the mark" rating as well. I know that sounds like a "bad" review but I want to stress that this movie was actually one of the better sci-fi movies I've seen in the last couple of years and was easily well worth going to see it. The only reason I'd "knock" it at all is that it was very close to being a top-notch movie without quite making it.

I've seen other reviewers calling this a "thinking man's blockbuster" and that's probably a fair way to describe it. It's just complex enough to not be totally shallow story-wise but yet solid enough to appeal to most viewers with a bit of action and mystery to it. Frankly if all sci-fi movies were at least as good as Source Code we'd be doing pretty well.

Actually, I found the movie enjoyable. And at the end...

*possible spoliers*

...when it paused, I thought, is it over?! :O

Then when it went to the next scene, I thought, could they be setting it up as sort of "this is his afterlife now...that afterlife is a dream"

Then they revealed it was so much more! I was like. \o/

I wouldn't say it was as actiony as the previews made one think, and I was expecting a bit more action, but that didn't let me down any.

Source Code is like Deja Vu the same way Star Wars and Star Trek are like each other because they both have people flying around in spaceships. Sure there are similarities, but there are more than enough differences to make it worthwhile. Source Code is easily the superior of the two movies BTW.

Guy gets recruited by an agency to observe the past with some technology and falls in love with a girl. He then does whatever it takes to save her despite the program not being creating for that as it supposedly can only see the past not alter ...so they claim anyways. Thats exactly what Deja vu was about. Whether its a better movie or not doesn't change it's still a stupid concept the first time I saw it. (How you can be so certain that its a better film that you haven't seen it is beyond me...unless you re a dang time traveler....*deports her back to the 42nd century.)

Now see, I don't know if he was recruited per se. More like "recruited".

First of all I've seen both movies and I didn't even need a time machine for that.

Second of all you clearly have NOT seen Source Code because:

***Spoiler Alert***

(1) The main character is not "recruited" to do the task at hand. He's forced to do it against his will.
(2) The story itself is not even actually about "Time Travel" at all. It's about alternate dimensions.

Just about the only thing these two movies have in common is they are both sci-fi movies about a guy "traveling" to another reality and a girl he falls in love with there. I'll bet you could probably shoehorn hundreds of movies into that general premise.

And finally yes, Soruce Code was a much better film than Deja Vu.
