Now *this* is what I call a character creator
It's amazing how far computer graphics and GUIs like this have come since this game started in 2004. If our Devs could rework our character/costume creator to be this good I would probably spend so much time playing around with it that I could easily justify spending like an extra $50 for it. *hint, hint*

That's insane. I'll bet you could duplicate yourself with a tremendous degree of accuracy. Too bad it's for a bad game from a terrible company.
Anyway, there's a wishlist item for CoH2 right there.

the problem with most character creators out there in my opinion is that they care too much about a character fact that in the end noone looks at. in the future it might be cool and for certain games definitely worth it, but in most MMOs it is largely a waste.

I think the argument could be made that the reason it's been "largely a waste" until now is that up until now most characters really couldn't look all that different from each other. Once you'd seen a few dozen running around you'd pretty much seen all there was to see. I suspect as games allow ever increasing levels of customization it'll become less of a "waste" because more characters will be more unique than ever before.

QFT in EVE's case. Spend a few hours making the perfect character, only to take a screenshot of it and only see it on the character select screen. Oh, and pay $10 if you ever want to change it.

On the other hand it sounds like it'd be much more applicable for CoH.

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
I don't really see the point in customizing the eyebrows of a character whose face you won't even see 90% of the time.

But you can say the same thing about almost any other functional area of this game:
Some people don't see the point of Markets when they never bother to craft anything.
Some people don't see the point of the PvP zones when they never PvP.
Some people couldn't care less about actively obtaining badges in this game.
and so on...
Computer graphics have been steadily increasing the realism of character appearances in games for decades now - why would anyone seriously speak out against any aspect of that no matter how trivial? With statements such as yours it sounds like you'd be fine with Atari 2600 levels of detail in this game.

Meh. Wasn't impressed.
1. The hair didn't look animated.I want hair that blows in the wind. (I was looking at the female being made)
2. Limited to humans. What am I supposed to do about my monstrous/alien characters?
3. No nipples.
4. No examples of how those skeletons look when moving, and when I read the comments here I get the impression that it's not the type of game that has a lot (if any) first person content where avatars interact.
I'd be down for any of those improvements in the future . And I agree with SN , I would never leave ICON
Again I won't argue that this kind of detail will (or even should) appeal to everyone.

What a hunk of junk.
While I agree it looks like this costume creator is going to be wasted on a game like EVE at least some of your concerns (hair/body movement) looked covered according to the link Mothers_Love provided earlier in this thread.

I'll bet this new character creator wouldn't even wash my clothes, cut my lawn or do my taxes either.

I still want nipples, boobs that jiggle and bounce, Shoulder Cats/Pandas/Parrots that look just as lifelike as the Avatar, and decent looking Alien/Monstrous stuff.
I've thought many times that the character creator in CoH needs a serious upgrade. They have a better system in those Smackdown vs Raw video games, and I haven't played any of them in years.
@Joshua.
I was reasonably happy with APB's.
This... I'd have to have a three month sub prepaid just to finish the first character with all the playing around I could do.
For those saying that this is wasted in EVE as far as I know this is being developed for "Walking in Stations" (not sure if they ever came up with a more official name for it) and also for the FPS tie-in game that they're working on.
It will be implemented before either of those features in preparation for them going live.
It does make me think about them supposed to be doing World of Darkness MMO. I hope they will be using this for it.
"I hear you have been playing the WoD MMO."
"Yeah, about three months now."
"What level are you?"
"Um, I haven't made it out of character creation yet. I almost have my character the way I want it to look!"

As extensive as out character creator is, the Smackdown VS Raw games really do put it to shame, with the exception of the original Smackdown.
Can't come up with a name? Click the link!
Imagine if they'd give us something like that for CoH... man i'd never get out of icon

Until then it's mitten hands and flat texture faces.
Or would they rather the devs try to shoehorn that into the game as is; have characters looking that good running around a city with 2004-era models/textures and a few 2008 shading effects on top?
Trying to have the new stuff not clash with the old is already a problem for the devs, and if they're going to spend time redoing or updating the old assets, they may as well start over.
.
Just to bring people up to speed:
They've been developing this since 2006, and it's gone through many iterations on just the name of it alone. What you see here is the first step on the way to Incarna, which changes the dynamics of EVE, albeit in a small way, by allowing those once bound to ship only to exit said ship and roam the metal hallways and gangplanks of space stations.
The character creator will launch this Winter, with the next step in the Spring of 2011; that will be when these full bodied characters will be free to walk about the cabin.
This same engine, called Carbon, is what you will see in the World of Darkness MMO, which is still in development.
Did a search and didn't find anything about this. Also not sure if this is the right place to post it so if it's a duplicate or not allowed please delete it.

Any chance we can steal some of their devs for CoH 2?
