Eeee...Granny and the Furies! Curse you CW for not having an HD station! Watching SD on a HD tv is the pits!

totally amazing episode ... the parents speechs were touching and the unholy trinity rocks, plus an awesome surprise at the end

btw... today is the 12th

the desaad, granny, and godfrey scene was overly hamfisted...

Teri Hatcher as Lois' mom...another tie-in to previous versions is a nice touch

Id heard she was showing up as Lois's mom this season. Interesting to see her again. Also loved the female furies. Lashina, Mad harriet. All we need now is Bertha and Scott Free.

I'd really like some evidence that these aren't just humans that have been recruited by a puff of CGI smoke. I was worried I'd have trouble choosing between watching Smallville and Human Target but after the last few episodes of Smallville it's not that hard to choose. Looking forward to the season premiere of Human Target next week.

The first season of Human Target was awesome. As long as the new show-runner (who's from Chuck) keeps Guerrero and Winston, I'm sure season 2 will be equally as good.

Smallville has always felt to me like the lesser Republic serials from back in the day: reliance on the same story each week, dragging out the plot with an anticlimactic finish at the end of the build-up, subplots which don't really amount to much.

You realize Human Target and Smallville show on different nights right? I have no idea why one needs to pick one over the other when they could in theory watch both since they are not on at the same time or even the same day. Human Targets season premiere is Wednesday the 17th. Shouldn't conflict with Smallvilles timeslot at all..

even if they were on at the same time and day... why would you need to choose one?

Thought they were both going to be on Fridays but maybe that changed when they bumped the start of Human Target's new season to November.

No DVR means that when two shows I want to see are on at the same time I can watch one on the 60" big screen and then the other on my 20" computer monitor via Hulu or other online resource, assuming the owners of the show haven't done something stupid like delay showing the show online for 30 days after the original airing (the decision that finally made me stop following Stargate: Universe). You may get to see both but the experience is different so there's a choice involved.

Just watched it tonight. Nobody commenting on the brilliant casting of Delores Herbig as Granny Goodness? If I couldn't get Ed Asner in drag this is the next best thing. I never would have imagined it working but it totally does.

Wow, and I thought the 8-day delay on Monk and House was bad.

Too bad they already got rid of Zod, we could have had a mini Dead Like Me reunion. But pretty sure they never appeared together in a scene during DLM.

My CW affiliate has an HD station on the comcast line up. Maybe its not a CW issue and a issue as to who pays for CW programing in your area.

As for the episode, not terrible, however the "Hints" at clarks future greatness are already starting to wear thin. They have gotten alot more blatent this year so more then ever how about showing some of that greatness in a nice super powered fight where the enemies dont have to have kryptonite infused weapons to make a difference.

I mean i know the furries werent superman quality power houses, but it gets old when every enemy clark has to deal with just by chance seems to be ready for him. Especially when he isnt superman yet, and hasnt had the press or history that would make kryptonite a even sorta known weakness for him.

Not only that but the sheer amount of kryptonite floating around in the smallville universe i am begining to find it hard to believe that clark could ever really become the superman we know and love. I mean at this point I expect a smallville version of a starbucks coffee mug infused with kryptonite to keep your java nice and warm on the way to work.

The 'look kryptonite forged weapons because... screw you, that's why' as usual was annoying but it is cheaper to remove his powers than special effects up something that can go toe to toe with him so from a show standpoint that's just how things go.

The Indiana Jones vs sword guy moment was cute. Just casually superspeed over and knock her out with a single punch. That's how he deals with all his enemies, sure (and really it SHOULD be how he deals with all his enemies. The animated superman shows always kind of annoyed me with letting non-superspeed martial artists land hits on him and dodge his blows), but the whip build up before hand was a nice touch.

You've never actually read a Superman comic, have you. Kryptonite has always been stupidly common.

Actually, I think they did at least once. I'd have to break out my DLM DVDs to make sure though. And during the last DLM movie, where they were shooting the ashes into space, IIRC they were in the same scene.

Not before the radio program it wasn't.

It sort of has to be, since Superman is stupidly powerful. The only reason people can even compete with him is because 1) there's kryptonite and 2) he holds back. He's the ultimate melee fighter because he can move almost as fast as the speed of light and he's the ultimate ranged fighter because he has a variety of powers that can work on you from a distance: frost breath, heat vision and a throwing arm that is unequaled in the galaxy.

Superman Returns would've been over in 9 minutes if Superman just carried around a bunch of pebbles. Throw a pebble at a guy from ten miles away and the target would explode into a blood-red mist. Problem solved.

I rather liked the original conceit of the show, namely that superhumans were being created because of the properties found in the meteor rock, with Superman's landing place being the epicenter of a superhero and supervillain outbreak. They never capitalized on it, focusing instead on "freak of the week" stories, and then did away with the idea in later seasons. But a lot of rock came down with Clark's rocket, so there's tons of kryptonite to go around.

My wife is a huge Smallville fan. I almost got a comic con trip this year because she wanted to meet Erica. So, I watch the show every Friday (and several times during the week). I mean this woman follows blog sites, and every thing she can find about the show.

For me, I am really at the point where I am tired of them using Kryptonite what seems like every episode. I would just like to see him kick some butt. Makes my wife happy, so I will keep watching it.

This coming week looks really good with the return of Aquaman. The show really hits it's peek with the cameos, and with the romance between Lois and Clark. I always felt the comic lacked a bit when it came to what was suppose to be their epic love, or it was one sided any way.

Or 3) they know how to cast magic missile.

You don't need kryptonite if you have villains who either can't be overcome with brute force (which requires more intelligent writing than we've seen from Smallville) or supervillains who can go toe to toe with Superman (which Smallville apparently lacks the SFX budget to do).

They need the equivalent of guys like T2's Liquid Terminator -- Clark can freeze him, melt him, blast him into a zillion pieces and he just reforms. There are a couple dozen other ideas along similar lines, but they tend to stick with the usual bad guy.
