Do you know your issue titles?
I remembered 8 of them, oh well.

I remembered three. I am teh lam0rrz.
But thanks for the fun quiz, Tony.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
I remembered 6
one of which was Issue 1
I remembered thirteen. I would have gotten more if I had remembered to spell Colosseum and Responsibility right.

The Alien Tyrant, 357388: Stop the reign of an evil emperor!
Spawning Chaos, 469020: Form an army of Freaks, win the Freaklympics!
The Restarian Front, 363257: Stop the invasion of an alien fleet from another galaxy!
I got 11: Through the Looking Glass, Colosseum (I joined the game in i4), Forest of Dread, Along Came a Spider, Breakthrough, Invasion, Midnight Hour, Power and Responsibility, Architect, Power Spectrum, Dark Mirror and Alpha Strike.
I missed Shadow of the Past, Council of War, Destiny Manifest, To Protect and Serve, a Stitch in Time, Anniversary and Shades of Grey.

Thanks to @EnsonsDeath for the GVE code that made me VIP again!
I got all but Issues 12 and 16.
I could remember the primary word from the title of i12, but not the full phrase. I realized after I finished that everything I tried came from Samuraiko's i12 trailer.
For i16, amusingly, I could remember the non-English title, "Kaleidescope," but not the English title. This is odd, since I have nothing whatsoever to do with the French or German (or even UK, for that matter) servers.
The full issue list bears out my longterm, gut feeling that issue titles have generally been getting less evocative over time, though there have been a few standouts throughout the game's life.

I got eighteen, and I don't know whether I'm proud or ashamed.
I tried so hard, but I couldn't remember 'A Shadow of the Past' for the life of me.
That's still a better-than-great score. That one is the one that is missed most often.
I'm thinking of publishing one or two of these every week or so. This one was pretty hard, some will be a lot easier.

BOOYAH PERFECT SCORE! All 19 in exactly one minute, no cheating... I am SUCH a geek.
Though it helps I could see my videos in my head and was remembering each issue as I went along.

Well, as two of you figured out already, I went ahead and posted a quiz that is, in theory, a little easier. The answers aren't that hard, but the challenge is mentally getting them in order before the allotted time is up. If you're feeling up to it, give it a shot. Here it is:

You forgot Warshades!
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
Behold the power of having access to edit the answers! Seriously, though, I could have sworn it was in there. Assuming everyone who got to it would have gotten to it, add four to the number of times it would have been answered correctly. Since it's (no surprise, probably) listed last, it shouldn't have affected any other answers.

I'm a huge fan of Sporcle. This is a great idea!
Now I can put my random CoH knowledge to use there. Instead of just putting my freakishly good geography knowledge to use. (Seriously, there's a quiz that asks you to list all the countries and their capitals in the world, with no map, and it lists the answers in random order. And I can get 100% just about every time on it. I'm a freak. )

Okay, but do you know WHY the Issues are named the way they are and from which literary/pop culture sources they spring?
|
"The names of Issues are NOT chapters of novels. Never have been, never will be. The fact that the users have found novel chapter titles that match, or are similar to, our Issue names is a testament to the tenacity of our users. I won't say we haven't been amused by this, because we have, but we don't go out of our way to find a chapter title that matches our issue in theme and content. We name the issue something cool, that's it." - Positron |
Issue 1: Through The Looking Glass -- Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There
Issue 6: Along Came a Spider -- "Little Miss Muffett"
Issue 7: Destiny Manifest -- doctrine of imperialistic expansion
Issue 8: To Protect and Serve -- standard motto for law enforcement
Issue 11: A Stitch in Time -- "a stitch in times saves nine"
Issue 13: Power and Responsibility -- The Tao of Peter Parker (bonus points if you get that reference), "With great power comes great responsibility"
Issue 17: Dark Mirror -- 1st Corinthians "for now I see through a mirror darkly..."

Bah, forgot about Stalkers... I guess that's because I never play them :P
Just for fun, I've created a Sporcle quiz. Given the issue number, release date, and major features, can you come up with the issue title? Give it a shot and see how well you can dig way back into the early days of City of Heroes.
Note: Some of the conversation below has spoiler answers, so for the full challenge, take the quiz first before reading the thread!
Think we could make a minor forum rules exception and call out the devs on this one? I'm curious how well the long-timers (Posi? War Witch? Castle?) who were instrumental in these updates being released can remember the banner under which they released them.
Quick hint: I've tried to list the major features that I think most reflects the title first.
P.S. Yes, I know, it's trivially easy (no pun intended) to cheat on this quiz. There's even a link to the Paragon Wiki page that lists all of the answers right there on the quiz page itself. Don't bother, though; as soon as the time expires, it will reveal all of the ones you missed. It's not a competition, folks, it's just for fun.
P.P.S. List of published quizzes:
