AE Removal?
AE is most certainly still broken. I joined a team the other day with my level 4. I did so because there were no sewer teams available. I haven't been in the game a while and didn't know AE farming was still going on, I figured it was just some RPers I was joining.
About eight to ten minutes later I was level 23. I was leveling so fast I wasn't even sure it was me that was leveling. I figured it was my teammates I kept seeing ding. You can powerlevel in there probably about 3 times as fast as people did doing the Winterlords a few years ago. Just FYI... |

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!
Honestly, players who power-level will find ways power-level. If you were to close AE, you'd only penalize those players who use AE for legitimate reasons.
AE is designed to be a player-driven story-telling device. The fact that it's exploited by a subset of players to powerlevel their characters is irrelevant. Take a quick look at the sheer volume of stories in the mission browser. If you removed AE, you'd destroy all that content, sending a message to all those who had invested so much time into creating it. Sure, you'd stop the powerlevelers from using AE for that purpose, but they'd just find other ways to power level. So what would you have accomplished, aside from alienating all those players who had created all that content in AE?
I might even go so far as to hypothesize that in eliminating AE, you'd encourage powerlevelers to actively seek out new ways to powerlevel. It's the way they prefer to play; and if you take away their chief means of playing, they'll just look for another way to do it.
What do you think would happen if the game went back to being like pre-ae times and they just removed AE entirely from content. Other than the fact the market would most likely crash, and MANY noobs (no offense), would leave the game because they would have to venture outside Atlas Park for the first time in their lives, Any comments?

why are you speculating about something that isn't going to happen?

Seriously, though, I do find it amusing that currently the best way to "game the game" is to play a game inside the game where you game the game inside the game.
I say leave the powerlevellers where they are, as long as they don't level any faster than they would otherwise. In fact, I think the opposite is true, I think powerlevellers know of techniques outside the AE that would level them faster, but they would take more effort.

Nice try. Don't you know the powerlevelers are wrong for enjoying the way they play? At least according the 'authorities' and people 'knowledgeable' about the game that have given their 'insight' in this thread.

Hmm.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

So, your telling them not to knock other peoples opinions...while knocking their opinions...
Hmm. |
I'm simply mocking some of the posters in this thread. It's pretty obvious, but you don't seem to be interested in what I'm actually posting. You are much more interested in putting words in my mouth and making stuff up. Way to go there turbo.

I can understand your point of view, but I'm not sure this thread is a condemnation of powergaming. Any more than it is (as the OP apparently intended) a condemnation of the AE.

The market, however, would not crash. It would simply become a "truer" representation of actual market forces uninfluenced by AE providing means and motivation to NOT use the market as intended.
More people would be VISIBLE in game zones. As they move between missions they will be "physically" travelling in and through zones, not just stepping in and out of the thingy in AE.
I think PUGs would become more common again - at least for those who are currently avoiding AE. Without AE missions to run through people would have to again turn to IN-GAME content so the AE-phobic would have more people to interact with in the game on a regular basis.
When AE was introduced I thought it was a mistake. Generally I still do but only because I think the general idea behind it was improperly incorporated into the game. The conceit behind Architect Entertainment is that the missions are not REAL. They are holographic simulations that heroes use for entertainment purposes. For the people responsible for providing content for the game it was a boon because it sloughed a large chunk of responsibility for new/updated content upon the players themselves. But the EFFECT was to remove players from participating in the EXISTING content. People still interested in playing through existing content now had a LOT fewer people to team with.
That same effect has been realized to one degree or another with other changes in the game. With City of Villains players who would otherwise be playing in blue-side zones were split off to isolated red-side zones. With Going Rogue they've been split further into Preatoria meaning both blue and red-side zones will see fewer players who would otherwise be there. With AE you may still see their names listed as present in the zone but for all intents and purposes they're NOT there and may as well be in the Rogue Isles or Praetoria.
What would probably have been a better means to incorporate AE would have been to have the player-created missions reviewed by GMs and then made available as actual live game-world missions not "fictional" missions. Perhaps as radio/newspaper missions or maybe issued by a Crime Computer that players could put in their supergroup bases, or access from City Hall, police stations, FF, or Vanguard, etc. The point being to keep them moving around and playing in the ACTUAL game world rather than promoting them removing themselves from the game world for playing within an isolated, fictional representation of the game world within the game world.
One third of the subscribers would be very upset, one third would celebrate, and one third would either not know or at least care either way.

Actually, while I'll admit SlickRiptide was being a bit dismissive in saying powergamers "don't care about playing the game", for the most part I thought he was being honest in saying that the AE doesn't really benefit powergamers that much, and they'd just be doing the same thing elsewhere in the game without it. It's not really a judgement of powergaming, at least not in my case, just a statement.
I can understand your point of view, but I'm not sure this thread is a condemnation of powergaming. Any more than it is (as the OP apparently intended) a condemnation of the AE. |
Don't remeove the AE. I use it to create my own custom foes and stories for my characters to run. So yes it has become my own personal holo-deck.
I've given up on creating content for others. Now I just use it for myself
Good to see folks are suggesting things that will never happen.
AE is staying and so is the xp in it.
Get over it.
You want to know how to really help?
If you know the number of an exploit farm, REPORT it and move on.
BMWing on the forums helps no one.

I can agree with this. Also, people should avoid posting any details about exploit farms on the forums. Somebody did it in this thread and I was able to find it just using that information. This one is bad too, I expect it to be dealt with the next patch or I19 release.

I hope that person in question edits their post.
If they knew of that it should have been PM'd to a mod.

Now in all fairness the poster didn't put anything out there I couldn't have gathered from AP in like two minutes. But it was new info to me, so I was curious.

Anyway, if it's bad the Ocho or someone else will come and modsmack this thread.
Regardless, you're right in how fast this one will be removed in game.

I would utterly hate that.
Look, call me naive if you want. But for months I thought the people looking for AE teams were doing story arcs and wanted to have people along so they could roleplay.
I love the stories. Go play Two Tickets to Westerly. Play through the Do It Yourself Moonbase. Heck, play everything @Twoflower's written, and @PW, and a bunch of other people. Go play those, then try to tell me the game would be better without them. You will not be able to do it convincingly.
Look, I know powerleveling leads to idiots. I got grouped with a fire/dark corruptor who did not use any of his secondary powers except tar patch. When I commented that most /dark corruptors used their heals when people were low on health, he said "guess im different lol". He had the powers you would get if you levelled to 24 taking powers from your primary when you could and something from the secondary the rest of the time.
But you know what? I know people who have a militant anti-PL policy in their group who are also hopeless. I know people who levelled on sewers who are hopeless.
In another game I played, there was really no powerlevelling. No sidekick/exemplar, so you had to move onto new content to gain levels. And you know what? It changed nothing. You still met people at the level cap who did not know how to use their classes. You saw people doing something roughly equivalent to using a power that gives you better recovery but half damage, and using nothing but brawl. For an entire mission.
The problem is not that AE allows people to be stupid. It's that it allows the stupid people to get high level characters, and frankly, I don't care -- they'd be able to get high level characters anyway.
I well, I see what you mean, Maybe not a market crash, I'm most likely being mis-informative, My apologies. I was just curious still, what exactly were to happen if AE disappeared, and I do play on 'freedum' because I used to play on Protector and now it is a graveyard, so at the time I transfered over, i moved to the most populated server.
|
That said, Protector is no longer a graveyard. Many people, myself included, were simply bored and doing other things while waiting for GR to release. Since then, I'd say the servers are at a high it hasn't seen in years.
EDIT: Which isn't saying that much, actually, heh. Let me rephrase that to say it's hit the yellow status quite regularly since GR release, and still is. I haven't seen the yellow status on Protector before except for double xp weekends.
I think the AE is one of the best features of the game - but it needs some way of filtering out the farms and exploit missions.

Wounder how many New AE farms are going to Come out once, when I19 hits with the Praetorian Villains.
