Thanksgiving events
Too close to both the Halloween and Christmas events, I'd say. Also, don't more people travel during Thanksgiving?

They travel during Christmas, too. Not stopping them from having events then, either.
Considering our worldwide demographic (mwahahahaha!), I don't recall the bulk of our member nations celebrating this holiday on the same day...if at all.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Event overload!!! Halloween, Winter, Spring Fling sll 1 month apart

Still seems fun to destroy a giant turkey and pumpkin head (again)
And again, I said MORE people travel during Thanksgiving. During the Christmas event, you at least have people having weeks off of school and such where an event would be well-populated. Having an event around Thanksgiving for a week or two would mean that for at least a 1/4 of the time, you'd have most people not near their computers to play during it.

What ever happened to these forums being fun? It was just an idea, not an actual suggestion for them to do it. Lighten up a bit, have a bit of imagination.
Well gosh, sorry I struck a nerve, bro. Just thought it'd be pretty fun to see. No need to be so anal about it.

Would it be fun? Sure! Do I expect them to do it, given what I point out in my answer? No.

In practical terms I agree with KnG, it's too close to two other events to fit in really.
Actually apart from the obvious reasons that A) Thanksgiving is one of the least "globally translatable" holidays and B) it's too close to the Halloween and Winter Events there's another reason this year why the Devs wouldn't really have time for it. That reason of course is that they are busy finishing up work on Issue 19.

Halloween is a multinational holiday that is celebrated in many countries of the world, from Latin America, to North America, and across to Europe. It's also one of the oldest known holidays
Christmas is another multinational holiday celebrated on every continent as it spread across the globe.
The same is true about Valentine's Day and how widespread it is celebrated across the world.
Thanksgiving is an American holiday. Furthermore the countries that do have their own version of Thanksgiving:
1. Don't celebrate it in November and
2. Don't celebrate the first successful harvest on American soil.
It only common sense that if the game is going to have any holiday events it will be the ones that appeal to as many of their customers as possible and are celebrated at the same time everywhere.
Again, this is all supposed to be fun. I know that not all countries celebrate certain things the same way. I never said that we all share the same beliefs around the world. I was just saying it'd be pretty fun to see in-game.

If you Americans move Thanksgiving to say May I'd be all for it though
Why are there no Thanksgiving events? You know, giant turkey running through cities, maybe bring back pumpkin head, have random Native American and Pilgrim attacks. Give the N.A.'s bows and arrows, like the Warriors, and hide out in trees, like the Tsoo in the Hollows. The pilgrims could have special rifles, designed as muskets they could attack with, they could throw rocks, have axes and whatnot.
I'd find it pretty fun. =D |
EDIT : On the flip side, edit the pumpkin head to drop "Pumpkin pie" (+Hp/+End) and "Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream" (Even More +HP/+End) and you got my support, otherwise

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
One of the reasons I like Thanksgiving is that it's not a giant hype-fest that revolves around shopping. It's mostly about family, eating and giving thanks, at least ideally. It's just not as interesting to make an event out of as Halloween, Christmas or Valentine's Day. Which is a good thing, I think.
I think it's the timing more than anything. Other MMOs have more holidays than CoX and I know when I played them the last three months of the year always felt like one constant in game event with Oktoberfest, Day of the Dead, Halloween, Harvest Festival (of which Thanksgiving is just a specific, more heavily celebrated example) and various Winter celebrations.
Thanksgiving? Pfft, as a German I think we should use this time around the ninth of November to celebrate the Fall of the Berlin Wall by shutting off the War Walls for a week or two and give Heroes and Villains Vigilante/Rogue properties to allow them to visit the other side for the duration of the event.
Also maybe beat up a Giant Monter version, stat-wise, of Reichsman, I dunno.

Actually... let's really get creative.
The day AFTER Thanksgiving, every single store, vendor, etc should be absolutely SURROUNDED by mobs of wandering civilians, making it nearly impossible to get near said store/vendor/etc. Then, when you finally get there, it's sold out of several randomly selected items.
And of course Wentworth's and the Black Market should just look like war zones. Civilians are all of a sudden brawling and kicking everywhere...

The Thanksgiving event would have players collect randomly spawning turkeys around the zones (like presents), but each turkey you get makes you more and more lethargic until you're asleep.

Certainly over this side of the pond we treat the illegimate offspring of Halloween and Xmas with a bit of bemusement. What's it for which Halloween (harvest festival) or Xmas (winter festival hijacked by religion) doesn't do.

As already mentioned, Thanksgiving is too uniquely American to be included in a game with an international player base. Same reason we won't be seeing a 4th of July event. Also, not to knock the OP's suggestions, but I think there are really more fun and interesting things you can do with horror and winter themes than with a Thanksgiving theme (besides, hostile Native Americans might not be seen as very PC, and kind of goes against the spirit of the holiday which has often drawn attention to the friendly relations of the early white settlers and Native Americans).
Although I do have to admit a giant raging turkey would be a pretty cool GM.
Also very few villain groups represent a real life group, I think the nearest is 5th column and their obvious nod to Nazism, if you had a holiday which allowed you to throw fire balls at Native Americans, regardless of whether you could throw them at Pilgrims too,
I imagine you would have ALOT of trouble on your hands.
I gather thanksgiving is soon, though I don't know or care when, well actually I do, I know that the week preceding it WONT be an issue release week as they wouldnt push something live and not have people available at the weekend but anyway, it is apparently too close to 2 other events to work, which I agree with.
Also the large demographic of players simple wouldn't care, the majority of americans wouldnt play it from traveling and seeing family, and the rest of us wouldn't get it.
I'm curious if migrants to America celebrate it (im refering to the large spanish speaking populations some areas have, even as 2nd or 3rd generation) or if its just one of those traditions that people dont get for a few generations
