I know that Castle responded a while back, voicing an opinion that it was a bug. Still doesn't make it a bug.

Default lifetime for a vBulletin cookie is a 1 day logon. It CAN be changed. And I've given them the information to do so. But there may be other considerations besides simple technical feasibility (CAN this be done) of changing it on a bog-standard install, as NCSoft's version has been customized to interface with their authentication servers.

Sorry, I'm with Castle on this one. Pretty sure it's more than a simple cookie expiry.

Got this one last week on top of the spontaneous kick outs (not just a 24 hour timer on the kick out):

I have the box checked and I can get logged off 3 or more times within a few hours some days and go days without getting booted.

total kick to the gut

Granted. But I wasn't speaking to these issues.

I'm not? Weird. Cos, like Swellguy above, I can go for days without being logged off and then get kicked out multiple times in an hour. It appears to have gotten better lately (touch wood) but how long it lasts.... who knows.

Anyone else been getting a lot of database errors?

This defect arose back when they first applied the new look-n-feel to the forums, then seemed to die down until just before Going Rogue launched.

I can't say for sure, and it's been a bit since I worked with PHP, but it seems VERY similar to what I used to encounter when running PHP load-balanced across several servers. While the state data is supposed to be shared between servers to give a "seamless" user experience, it's sometimes dropped or delayed, particularly when one server's settings get misaligned from the others. Some code is more tolerant of this than others-- for example, checking for the data and requesting it when it's missing, rather than just blindly executing, expecting the data to be there.

It's just a blind guess, as I don't know their environment, but with the added traffic that the expansion brought, its possible that an underused auxiliary server's now getting more load sent its way, and our 'logouts' are being caused by being switched to these, along with the dropped state/session data.

It's a bug, and a known one at that, that they cannot reproduce. I have redname PMs to the fact, and they are all recent.

I used to never be auto-logged off. Ever. Ever ever ever.

Now it can happen an unlimited amount of times within moments. I once had it happen eight times in five minutes.

Hehe. I clicked on the thread to check the latest discussion, and suddenly see everyone's signatures. I log back in, and now the singatures are out-of-sight, so the forum has become a much better place. (-:

Your comments may, or may not, be accurate. However, they are completely irrelevant. The forum is BUGGED. It logs people out repeatedly and at random intervals. I do not have the forum remember me. I LOG OUT every time I finish reading. And it logs me out whenever it feels like it, while I'm reading.

I had to log in. "Remember Me" must mean "Don't Remember Me"!

Got the Wrong Password, Moron message three times this morning. Had to come back this afternoon before I could get in.

Same here. That's twice today.

Maybe it's not a bug, after all.

Maybe it's intentional.

Maybe it's some wacky pop psychology attempt at...

FORUM DIVERSIFICATION

... meant to keep us from posting too often in the same thread. Or something. Ha ha. But it's darned peculiar that it's taking whoever is supposed to fix it so long to fix it...

Whenever he tries to publish his changes to test them, the server denies him write access because it keeps logging him out.

And here we go again. Replied to a post. Noticed that underneath my avatar the online/offline thing said I was offline. Scrolled up, and yup - I'd been logged off of the forums.

Same here. It logged me out just going from one page to another.

It's getting so these forums are pretty useless what with stupid rules and crappy software

Hey, I'm all in favor of stupid rules. I feel more ornery when I break them on purpose. And "Thou shalt not point out the rules to those who break them" has never been a rule, so it gets really fun after a while.

What gets me is that when I'm on my father's computer, I don't experience this problem.

My computer does experience this issue. There would be times that I'm responding to a post and get my message all typed in and I get something that tells me that I need to log in. Made me mad that I lost the message in the process.

Can you see why I'm confused at to what may be the issue?

Oh great. The forum forgot my user/pass again. Had to type it in three times, all of which were carefully input with the first two netting the "incorrect user/pass" message.
