Selectable Ammo for everything

I'm wondering if the new "selectable ammo" power for Dual Pistols can be applied to other powers as well. The interview Castle gave seemed to indicate that it was an entirely new way of treating powers, so maybe it could be used to change the secondary effects of things like arrows, swords, axes and so on.

I don't know how you would add it to the game, maybe as an Epic Power Pool or maybe even a new regular pool set. I suppose you could also design entire new ATs around it, too.

The problem is that Swap Ammo isn't something that can just be added as a power you choose if you happen to want it. It has to be worked into the set from the ground up. The way Swap Ammo works for DP is that each power has 4 different proc effects and those effects have either a 0% chance of happening or a 100% chance of happening.

It would be entirely possible for the devs to add similar powers to other sets if they wanted to (although they would need to make the swap power either inherent or replacing something else) but adding it as a power in a separate pool (like an Epic pool) that you take if you heppen to feel like it isn't practical (it's technically possible but would require major changes to every powerset for that AT).

Apparently I wasn't clear in my OP. I meant to add separate versions of basic types of abilities: Swap Ammo Arrow, Swap Ammo Axe, Swap Ammo Broadsword, Swap Ammo Dual Blades, etc. That's why I said made it part of an EPP. Castle made it sound like the way the thing was designed was an entirely new way of looking at powers, which sort of had the implication that it would be relatively easy to add it to new powersets. We already see EPPs specifically tailored to the characters we're playing, so this would be no different.

That said, now that you mention it, it would be cool to be able to add it to anything. Maybe make that part of the Incarnate system.

/unsigned. if it got added to power sets, we would lose either aim or build up. and archery already has a built in swap ammo type. it's called different types of arows. look at the set. also, how would you swap ammo on a sword? or a club? or an axe? and what about psi, or dark, or energy....? the list goes on and on. i get what you mean, but i just do not see it as being something i would want.

I could see this for Archery, but not other sets; that wouldn't dilute DP's uniqueness too much.

Swap Ammo is the only thing DP has going for it, and even then it's not that impressive. /unsigned

The problem there is that EPPs have to be open to every powerset available whereas powers like this would basically be for one set. The important thing to remember though is that the Swap Ammo power doesn't actually do anything. Adding Swap Ammo power for anything would require the devs to modify every power in the existing set to make it work.

As it was already pointed out previously Archery already allows you to swap out your ammo.

It has

1. Regular arrows
2. Blazing Arrows
3. Explosive Arrows
4. Stunning Arrows

And if you take Trick Arrow as your secondary you can further swap out your ammo

1. Entangling Arrow
2. Flash Arrow
3. Glue Arrow
4. Ice Arrow
5. Poison Gas Arrow
6. Acid Arrow
7. Disruption Arrow
8. Oil Slick Arrow
9. EMP Arrow

I could possibly see 'Swap Ammo' happen for the powers IN a given EPP, but even then it's doubtful--would feel too gimmicky.

No, Ammo Swap was made for Duel-Pistols to feel unique and not just be another 'damage set'

Personally, I'd love to see older powersets get unique mechanics added to them (such as Fire Blast or Radiation Blast), but not every powerset needs something such as ammo-swap.

Sometimes simplicity is better, and this is one of those times.

Plus, all of the sets that use ammo have powers which are, essentially, all the types of ammo. For instance, Assault Rifle has bullets, pellets, a sandbag, a flamethrower, and a grenade.
