Discussion: What's your Origin?
How is it that you can afford something as frivolous as the subscription to this game each and every month, then?

... The fact that you are unable to comprehend that not everyone has "chump change" to throw around whenever they want speaks volumes to your inability to understand the realities of the real world.
|
I think it's "chump change" and I am well aware of how the world works.
I was raised dirt poor..electricity and water got cut off regularly, I ate food given to my family by charity, etc.
You know what? Sometimes you can afford things and sometimes you cannot. THAT is understanding reality.
Just because it is out of your price range does NOT mean it is overpriced.
Being poor SUCKS. It does not, however, mean that people who are not poor should not enjoy what they are fortunate to have financially or that they do not understand the real world. It just means that they are lucky enough to not be poor.
"The side that is unhappy is not the side that the game was intended to make happy, or promised to make happy, or focused on making happy. The side that is unhappy is the side that is unhappy. That's all." - Arcanaville
"Surprised your guys' arteries haven't clogged with all that hatred yet." - Xzero45
All these new "level 1 auras" really kind of mess with the coolness of unlocking an aura at 30.
A: "Sweet, I got to level 30 and did these missions and look what I got!" B: "Big deal, I spent 10 bucks, got mine at level 1, AND it looks cooler." I know it's not power creep, but...eh. |
I am loving the alpha and omega auras for this; at worst, my lowbies have SOME aura to wear while they level up to the one they really want.
HA!

I never wrote that that Booster Pack was out of my price range. I stated that for the value of what was contained within the Booster Pack was not worth ten dollars to me, which is a lot of money to some people (myself included). I choose not to purchase it because the price of the Booster Pack exceeds what I consider a good value, and in my opinion is overpriced. I never once stated that those who felt the pack was a good deal, and could afford it, should not purchase it. Heck, if you want it, and can afford it, regardless of what people think of the true value of it, then why not buy it? Why would I care?
And I stick by my point that for some people ten dollars is not chump change. You dont know me, or my origins (no pun intended), or my financial status, so for anyone to tell me, or anyone in my financial position, that ten dollars is chump change does not have a grasp of the reality of the real world just their own little self-absorbed corner of it.

Ten dollars is "Chump Change" for me but that does not mean I don't understand how much it is either. I can remember many times living on Peanut Butter and Jelly for a month at a time just so my kids could have good, nutritious food to eat. Even with it being "Chump Change" for me though, I am not sure yet if I can justify spending it on this pack. As much as I love several of the capes and most of the auras, I am just not sure if it really is worth the money to me either. If they dropped the price a little I would probably jump on it, but I think as it stands this will be the second pack in a row that I choose to not buy.
And I stick by my point that for some people ten dollars is not “chump change.” You don’t know me, or my origins (no pun intended), or my financial status....

2: you can afford a broadband internet connection
3: you can afford $15 a month for an MMO subscription.
I don't need to see your pay stub to draw some conclusions.
yes, there will always be some edge cases who play on someone else's tab or who are dealing with a fixed income that features exactly $14.95 worth of discretionary expenses per month
But the act of playing an MMO strongly implies a certain level of disposable income.
'The Playerbase' isn't squatting in a hut on the outskirts of Manila selling plastic shoelaces to buy rice, it's kicking back in front of a fairly decent computer in first world housing and blowing twenty odd bucks a week on junk food and soda.
in the context of a population that can afford to play a video game with a monthly sub fee, ten bucks ain't squat.
Buy it or don't, but stop pretending ten bucks is Bill Gates money.

Now, i've had times where ten bucks was very dear, but living on the Northeastern coast of the USA means that most good restaurants that don't sell horrible sludge cost $10 or more for a single meal. Hell, the local delis sell sandwiches for $5 to $7. (Yeah, i know some excellent restaurants that serve enough for two at about $10, but that's not the usual price point.) A 20oz. bottle of soda is ~$1.25 around here. Yeah, i don't buy any of that for the most part, and my lunches generally cost me less than $5, but $9.99 for one time purchase of pretty bits that i will then be able to access until the servers go cold is something i can pay if i think the bits are worth it. If they aren't then i won't. Compared to a recurring monthly cost of $14.99 plus the cost of the broadband service it's still not a lot. Especially considering i've been paying that much for over six years.
i skipped on the party pack because it wasn't worth it to me. This pack OTOH so far seems like it will be.
Y'know, for some reason i'm suddenly reminded of the first Austin Powers movie when Dr. Evil makes his initial ransom demand.

The Capes
It may not be obvious in the trailer, but the Impervium Mantle cape is Ultra-moded. The art team did some miraculous things to make that happen. |
Seriously....wow. A reflective CAPE? That's a boatload more surface area than any other single reflective costume piece.
I just hope we can color these capes, since it doesn't seem likely that patterning will be viable on any other than the Impervium Mantle....and even that's doubtful since it's supposed to be made of Impervium and should reflect that in its coloration.
Oh dear, I made a bad pun there.
I'm not buying any more of your damned costume packs until you get rid of the de-evolution thing on Secondary Mutation from the Mutant Pack. I don't like paying someone to play jokes on me. It wastes my time and my friends' time if I'm on a team. It's not funny to me, and it's not cute. I could just not use the power, but I PAID for it. I thought the devs had more respect for their customers than that. No company stays in business if they slip little "jokes" into their customer's products. How would you like it if you bought a car that the paint washed off of the first time you washed it just because the manufacturer thought it would be funny?

I agree that devolution [puns intended] sucks. It has however happened to me exactly twice since I've been using it, only once of which was on a team... and I made sure I was far from the action when I clicked it.
If you have to boycott over stray - and mostly useless, I find most of them rather "meh" - over stray powers included in packs, at least wait for a pack with such a power in it. Passing up beautiful capes will not teach the developers any lessons, meanwhile your alts are frowning and pouting over not having a pretty leaf cape. Be kind to your alts!

Now why would you boycott the cape pack over this?! It doesn't even have a stray power IN IT?!

Personally i find being devolved very occasionally for a single freaking minute very amusing. Most of my alts have secondary mutation on auto, and out of the six times or so that i've been monkeyfied at least three of those times have been in combat. It's never caused defeat for me or my teammates, but it's amused the hell out of me every single time. i only wish we would get monkey powers while devolved, or at least be able to use brawl and temp powers. i was once delayed by a full minute for meeting the team to go do a trial because i was a monkey when i logged in and couldn't summon a portal or uses a teleporter. The horror! Besides, i'd keep a supply of assorted grenades handy if i could use them monkeyfied. i'd pretend they were something besides grenades of course. <.<

If not...
You're griping about a power that will grant you:
Reduced Recharge (30%) or
+Movement Speed (15%) or
Endurance Discount (30%) AND +Regeneration (30%) AND Resist(Stun, Sleep, Immobilize, Hold, Terrorize) (50%) or
+Def(Smashing, Lethal, Fire, Cold, Energy, Negative Energy, Psionic) (5%) or
+Accuracy (3.3%) AND +Perception (60%) AND +Def(Melee, Ranged, AoE) (3%)
ALL of which last for 20 minutes.
or
You turn into a Rikti money...
...for one whole flippin' minute!
Now, if Devolution lasted for 20 minutes I'd see a reason to complain. There is a simple solution. Quit hitting Secondary Mutation while in combat.
This is a sarcasm post right?

Also, it's so rare to happen that since I bought that pack (on the first day it was available), and use it almost constantly, I have only been "Monkeyfied" only three times now. One of which was in combat and I spent a good 30 seconds or so running my little monkey butt away so I didn't get killed. Laughed my butt off the entire way too.
Okay, this aura/capes pack? I'm getting it, unlike that unfun "Party" pack. Although it makes me wonder, when they will go back and jazz up the older auras and capes. so people will bother to still do the missions to unlock them....

Someone else here pays for the internet and cable out of their own pocket and by their own choice. Once again costing me nothing.
I live off of game cards when I have the money saved to afford them. Microcenter, a PC store here, sells the 60 day cards for 19.99 - NO tax.
I don't go to movies, out to eat, or really anywhere that can be called entertaining. So playing an MMO does not = disposable income.
Its irritating when so many new and shiny things come out through purchasable packs only. IMO this pack and the party pack should have just been given to the playerbase, or at least made 5 bucks instead of 10.
And ten bucks is 'squat' to some of us. Most of the playerbase may blow 20 bucks on soda a week, but a fair amount of us do no such thing. I don't. I rarely, if ever, even drink soda.
So while I see your point, you need to stop making assumptions to people who say this is just too much money for them. If its such a drop in the bucket for you, I'll gladly take one if you're buying.

There will always be outliers. The reality is the vast bulk of the playerbase wouldn't miss ten bucks if it fell out of their wallet at the bar (or the mall, for our younger players =P).

Re the devolution issue, that may only be one minute, but for those of us who hate becoming an ugly little creature that is one LONG minute that feels like at least 20 minutes.
Luckily it has only happened to me twice; were it to become more frequent, I would pull the power from my trays.
These powers seem to come with significant downsides. especially Fortune which has the potential for 20 minutes of debuffing. Luckily that one comes with a decline, because if I am on a melee alt I am GOING to get The Tower. I don't need any debuffage right before I get nose-to-nose with Romulus so *decline.*
Some of you think these downsides are a hoot and insignificant; others of us don't. Different strokes.

Kinda bummed I found out, it would've been a hilarious surprise....
IMHO the buffs are good enough that one minute of monkeyfication every couple of days is a small price to pay.

I think some folks in this thread are under the mistaken impression that they're buying a car instead of a booster pack.
"10 bucks? Really? (looks at the pack longingly)...I'd pay 8 bucks for it, but not ten..." (waits for salesman to come back with a lower offer)...
This is not a garage sale, folks. The price will not change. You either like the contents enough to fork over the cash, or you don't. If you're quibbling over the price, you like the contents, so just buy it already. If you don't like the contents, why argue over the price? You're not buying it anyway.
It's amazing how something simple can be made into something so complicated.
The threshold for failure/success for a pack is probably a lot lower than the naysayers think, as well. I doubt they had to sell very many Party Packs to break even, and the same applies to this one.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
