Personally I don't like the look, tho it is beginning to grow on me.

Whoever the hell is doing the art direction in this movie... needs to be shot in the foot.
Just because it's alien... it doesn't mean it has to be this bio-organic-glowy crap.

Also... I'd like to know whose advertising department bought that award for them. Seriously, not all that many people even *know what a Green Lantern is*. It can't seriously be the most anticipated movie.

What is so wrong with the way they have it?

They're not saying the most anticipated movie by everyone, just among the people in the demographic that would be watching Spike's Scream awards. I guarantee you every single one of those people knows who GL is.

I like it. I don't think an alien race would make a power battery that looks like a camping lantern anyway.

Why do most alien races technology we see in films today come covered with thier writtings all over the piece of tech? I mean look at the lantern... /\./\/\\\\\///\\]]][[{/}}}\/\/\\// whats that a warning sign? Come on we(humans) are less advanced than them and yet we usually only place one or two warning labels on our dangerous gear. Biohazard, Nuclear, beware of dog and break glass in case of emergency are usually only tatoo'd once per side at most...so what gives?

Nothing's WRONG with it persay... it's just... eh, ugly. The suit is too, IMO. It's not my bag, so to speak, but you can't please everyone. I'll still see this movie, I've been a GL fan for years, started reading the books when Kyle took over, not a big fan of Hal, but eh, what can you do? And RR has proven himself to me to be a decent to pretty good actor, so, it's got potentual, even if i'm not a fan of the direction they seem to be going with the SFX.

Yeah, the basic shape of the design works since, yes, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense that the power source of an alien police force looks just like a lantern from Earth. But I have to agree, the whole glowy bio-tech look just seems distracting to me. Maybe it'll look better/make more sense on the big screen, but part of me is wondering why they couldn't just have it be made of shiny green metal. (Actually, that would've made it kinda look like Kyle's battery.)

Joining the "It's kinda ugly" bandwagon.

It's a good shape, but all the extraneous details bog it down. This is a case where "less is more" would've been better, I think. Just smooth it down, give it a more metal look rather than what looks like smoky plexiglass with a green light inside.

Meh. Looks busy, but I wouldn't say it looks terrible to the point of ruining the movie.

I also think the movie will likely add to it. That's the prop, I expect to see some CGI over it as well.

Eh, all the of images released so far have had that grainy blurred look to them. I'm hoping they'll all look better on film.

While I don't hold that a contemporary mainstream version of Green Lantern ought to slavishly replicate a Silver Age comic's art direction, the "glowing bio-organic" look has become pretty clichéed in science fiction movies and TV these days.

I'd rather that the movie's art department try a clean, sleek version of the battery along the lines of that award show's prop:

I think the "glowing bio-organic" look is the best way to differentiate alien tech from our tech.

We have the sleek steel looking tech.

The "bio-organic" look is very alien to the tech we have now and I think it's a good way to differentiate the two.

But I also understand that everyone has their own opinions...this is only mine.

I don't even get a bio-organic tech, look from it. I get a glass look from it.

But... doesn't the Power Battery take on a form appropriate and recognizable to the wielder? That's how we got the F-Sharp Bell. Maybe I'm misremembering things.

That's a decent point, prolly do a little post production work to it, and it may help some i guess. *shrug*

No, you've probably got a point there. I wouldn't be surprised if Hal's battery and uniform change to more closely resemble the look from the comics before the end of the movie.

...I also wouldn't be surprised if that's not the case, but that's Hollywood.

Also, like previous shots of Reynolds in the suit, it may just be a prop that is in a "transitional" state, that is, not being fully used and will only be seen for a few minutes on screen.

Perhaps it only glows when it is used to recharge or when it first is pulled out of nowhere.

I just wish it looked more like a lantern, and less like a rock with glass in the middle and a handle carved out of it.

Won't detract from enjoying the movie, as long as it's not a harbinger of other things they just didn't get right.

Maybe it will look better in motion, I don't know. All I know is the thing in that picture is hideous. As an artist, I want to punch whoever created that monstrosity of 'hip' and 'grunge'.
Yes, I'm aware that... because this is alien tech... it shouldn't look like our version of a lantern. But for Christs sake, at least make it look good. That thing looks like an alien eyeball with ears that was left in the friggen sewers and got chewed on by radioactive rats.

Nobody designed this. This came from their toilets. They molded it around a glass bowl and did a 3D scan for the artists to touch up and make all glowy.

*sigh*

Sorry, that was probably uncalled for. I got a little worked up.
