Email bug ate my inf

Just a word of warning to everyone who uses email to store items/inf. I am currently having to petition to get back just under 2.5B inf cause 3 emails went poof (left my blanks for sending stuff back to 2 people though *boggle*).

I suspect I will get the inf back but just be careful and if you think something is amiss.....it probably is cause there is a bug thread about it too.

If you were storing the Inf long term, it probably wasn't a bug. Emails with attachments expire and are returned to sender after 60 days. If it's a mail from you to yourself, then it's deleted after 60 days.

Emails without attachments do not expire or get deleted, regardless of whether they're sent to your character or global name.

If the emails were less than 60 days old, a petition should get your stuff back. If they were over 60 days, I wouldn't hold me breath.

I'm not sure what you're saying here...can you elaborate?

He's talking about a blank email that he can just hit "Reply" on to send stuff to, instead of having to type (and poossibly mis-type) the name of the recipient. Handy if you send email to a certain person frequently; think of it like an address book.

As I said earlier, these don't get auto-deleted because there's no attachment.

there was another e-mail rollback.

NCsoft support is very good about this, and will restore what you lost, but you have to be able to tell them what was lost and which toon sent it.

Just a question: why store influence in an e-mail? I mean, unless you have all 12-slots on all servers used up for legitimate characters, why not make a mule or 10, take a couple of hours to level them to 10, then have them hold the inf for you? That seems safer to me...

Anyway, I sure hope you get your inf back!

This is exactly why i dont send inf through the email system. I only send large/medium inspirations and some temp powers to my other characters. I just dont see the reason to send inf through the email system unless you are paying for farms. And if there is a rollback or the email somehow gets lost im only out a couple of temp powers and 10-12 inspirations.

I'd say you've got a very limited imagination, then.

Uses I've had for the email system:
1. Collecting from the Benefactors of the Loyal Opposition SG.
2. Going around all my characters and getting 100 million off all the ones that can afford it to make a billion to turn into prestige for basebuilders. Collect the inf in the email, send a new email with 100M more.
3. Sending money to basebuilders in Europe so they can turn it into prestige (I like to personally attend the burning of the inf, if I can, but I only have an NA account.)
4. 11 inf test to someone that I'm about to mail some inf to.
5. Buying random rolls from someone who's got an AM and is logging on at a time when I am not available. (they email back the 5 recipes.)

So there's five.

What's your five uses?

Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.

So you think you're a hero, huh.

I'm not sure I've got 5, but recently I've used gleemail to :

1) Move 100 million off my marketeering toons to a non-marketeering toon whenever the marketeers hit the inf cap, in order to make room for more inf.

2) Send Generic IO's from my marketeering toons (who are also my toons with the portable workbench and crafting badges) to low level alts.

3) Send Jetpack and Recovery Serum recipes and salvage to low level Praetorian alts.

So, 3 things I've used it for reasonably recently.

I've never stored things on gleemail, or on the market, for that matter. If I want to store something, I keep it on an alt, which explains why a lot of my alts have recipe trays that are, umm.... 'well populated'.

The above post may contain Cynicism, sarcasm and/or pessimism. If you object to the quantities contained, then tough.

1> I keep a bounce back or two in gleemail for whenever a toon has a bad day...
No point in keeping them in tray - my toons don't die that much... But sometimes,
sh*t just happens...

2> I keep a modest amount of inf (10-25M) in gleemail for the next new toon
I roll - I used to have them market, but at this point, a gleemail slush/startup
fund is simply more convenient.

3+> I have specialty "procurement" toons, for things like AE tix, Merits (A & R),
farmed goods, crafted common IO's, etc. based on the ease which certain toons
can get those commodities.
So, if I have a guy that needs a particular rare salvage, or a shiny proc, etc.
I log in the appropriate specialist - grab the item and ship it to the guy that
wants it. It's convenient, easily organized and tracked, and gleemail makes
it work very nicely indeed.

If a player-based market is the best addition to the core game (I think so, at least)
then gleemail is the next best facilitator of it.

That said, prudence is always important, because - things change - things break.

If the item is critical, send it and retrieve it immediately (possibly after a guineapig
test mail first) - don't store it.

I've been rolling 1 hero merit a night at level 30. I craft and then e-mail them to myself... so that a character in my solo SG can grab them and pop them into storage. I also pull stuff out of my solo SG base storage and e-mail them to myself so that another character can use them. I e-mail influence to myself, given that my level 30 toon is burning 20 million a night converting merits, and I transfer money and recipes/IOs/inspirations around just in general as needed through e-mail. Also, on my high level toons any tier 4 inspirations that I don't immediately need get e-mailed to go to storage or to be used by other characters.

Have had no problems since the first week or so that email went live.

Two of my characters hit the infl cap, so I sent off 1.9 mill through email (3 emails altogether). Claimed one of the emails on an alt and logged out. Next day, I had duped rares and the claimed email was back. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win.

The emails were like 6-8 hrs old when they went poof......the thursday maint. deleted them.

I normally don't store stuff like this overnight but I was tired.....and as for why I need to move inf off toons. I have 3 toons who make 300M or so every 3 days so they get filled pretty quick. I assure you I wasn't paying for PL.......I'm on the other end charging if I'm involved with that at all.

And as I predicted they will refund the inf....though they did want to know where all the inf came from. Good news in addition....they won't drop it onto toons too close to the cap already.

So I'll be more careful in the future about emailed inf....and am glad CoX has decent support.

I have lost IOs thru email. How it happened:
Send to self stuff, get stuff & reply to self with stuff, get stuff & reply to self with stuff...
Each reply adds to the message body. When the message body exceeds 256 characters, the next reply email has a chance to get lost. To prevent this bug from biting you, I suggest keeping the message body short.
After I practiced this rule, I have not lost an IO.
Good thing they're refunding it for ya, Eris.
Altho I'm amused why they question where it came from given that you've been playing this game for so long and had so much time to build up to the cap.

Oh they didn't care where it came from as far as how I made it.....they wanted to know which toons I emailed it from. Which is hard to remember which toon is last when you do a rolling bundle of like 200M each from 5 toons to get a billion together (A sends 200M.....B claims and sends 400M...and so on).

I'm pretty sure Terror was wondering the same thing I'm wondering. How are you sending inf from a NA account to a European one? We even tested this on a thread a while back and it didn't work.
