Enlighten Me: Why is Posi I & II so popular?

Did I miss a memo someplace? Last I checked the ITF is the most popular TF being run.

Basically, the Posi TF 1&2 is just for leveling pre stamina lowbies or for people who want the TF Commander badge. You get a team for a few missions unlike the current PUG trend where people join for a mission (and get their tips missions) then vanish.

H: Blaster 50, Defender 50, Tank 50, Scrapper 50, Controller 50, PB 50, WS 50
V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster

This reason alone was reason enough that it had to be improved. I've actually run across people who won't try another TF because they got such a relatively bad taste in their mouths over the original version of Posi that it basically ruined them for any others.

I think the new version(s) is popular simply because it's now one of the better ones in the game. It might not be the "best" TF there is, but I'd easily rate it in like the top third of the game now.

The new Posi's are great, fun, and new. Plus you need them for Taskforce Commander. If they won't update the Synapse Task Force soon though, I'll jump out a window and aim for a little girl just to spite the *******.

Only problem with the synapse TF is the fact your facing clockwork the entire time and just too many clear all missions in the same blooming map. Would be awesome if they could change it since it would be my first taskforce i would do after leaving Praetoria then.

All they got to do is keep the GM spawn in the outside world and everybody will stay happy

It's funny but now that the Posi TF is no longer a generally accepted "bad" TF we can now focus on some of the other oldest TFs like Synapse as being the current "bad" TFs that need to be fixed. It'd be cool if the Devs set in motion a plan to systematically update all the oldest TFs. Maybe they could try to do one every Issue as an ongoing "modernization" effort.

The funny thing is that goes basically every signature TF. Sister Psyche has the Freakshow, Citadel has the Council and Manticore has Crey. Only Numina breaks the mold, and she does by making half the TF a hunt mission.

I really can't say I'm the biggest fan of Issue 0 TFs. If I had to pick a next TF for a revamp, it would be Citadel, though. At least the other I0 TFs have the courtesy of at least giving you a different map type occasionally, the Citadel TF is the same enemy group on the same map until you accidentally kill the AV at the end because he's just so forgettable you didn't even notice he was there.

As others have said, Posi is popular because they're not too hard for low levels (the meatgrinder at City Hall aside), fun, and arn't too long. You can run either of them in about 2 hours or less. By breaking it into two task forces, it's a lot easier to find teams and run the task forces casually instead of "Okay, who wants to spend an entire evening clearing out identical Council maps?" My SG runs the Posi a lot more than the others just because it's easy to throw together a team for a quick run.

I mean, compare the new Positrons to, say, Numina or Citadel or Synapse. One of the big problems with a lot of the older Task Forces (I'm looking at you, Dr. Q!) is that a lot of the missions are filler. You'll get two or three or five missions that are almost identical. Go and clear out another power station/portal factor/secret base/soccer field full of Clockwork/Rularuu/Council/Evil Girl Scouts. Or Numina's Grand Tour of the Scum of Paragon City, which is just a massive timesink. The endbosses for Citadel and Manticore are kind of lame, too (Really, Vandal is kind of a weak AV. And whatshisface, the gorilla in a suit bodyguard you fight at the end of Manticore... yeah). That's pretty typical of the older content, really.

The devs have learned since then and try to make every mission advance the story and unique somehow. I think they've also noticed that four or five missions is a pretty good number for most people. With Positron, each mission has it's own thing and is on a different map. I think between the two task forces, you get maybe two missions that are set on the same terrain, and the second is where you're following the path of destruction from the Clockwork assault on the Vahzilok (I do wish they'd played up the destruction a bit more on that, since it's mentioned in one of the clues that it looked like the assault was lead by a massive Clockwork, probably either Babbage, a Paladin, or the King himself. Just something like massive clawmarks on the walls or doors punched through or catwalks knocked down. Give the clear impression that something big had just torn through. Ah well). Some of the maps are really fun too, like the Vahzilok front company and it's green haze or the final map (the dam interior looks awesome).

My hope is that some day they'll go through and update the other Phalanx Task Forces. I'd love a Synapse revamp. The Clockwork King is one of my favorite villains in the game, and I love the final map of the Task Force. It's just getting there that needs work.

Pretty much this.
  • Good, quick XP for lowbies
  • Larger pool of players to recruit from
  • Dopplegangers
  • Minimal time commitment
  • Shiny & new
  • Casual
  • Fun

I actually prefer Posi to the ITF cause I LOATHE speed runs and most Posi's are done at a casual pace and still finished in under an hour.

Craft your inventions in AE!!

Play "Crafter's Cafe" - Arc #487283. A 1 mission, NON-COMBAT AE arc with workable invention tables!

Citadel is almost entirely all filler, I'd say it is the worse designed of the bunch at the moment, even moreso than Synapse, at least Synapse has a small bit of variety in the maps. Citadel is same map, same enemy group, all the time and the plot usually consists of 'clear out a council base to find something...oh nothing there...ok clear out another council base...and repeat until the last three mission of the TF'.

Numia is the worst time waster though, the grand tour of Paragon is a large time sink, completely boring (you either zip from Zone to zone clearing out grey mobs or you do what most people do which is dispatch people to the zones in advance) and overall in terms of the plot, virtually pointless.

Edit:

Yeah did Manticore TF yesterday and Hopkins was met with, "wait..is that the end AV?" and "This boss is particularly tough." response from people who hadn't run it before. You spend the entire time chasing Countess Crey but because the storyline actually ends in a Story arc they can't let you actually catch her...which just makes Hopkins even more disappointing.

True story, my second month in the game I and a friend got roped into what turned out to be a 6hour Posi run. The leader who got us together didn't even last past the 4th mission. I didn't run another TF for about 6months after that, until I made some friends who knew a lot more about the better TFs and took my on a Hess (which is a hell of a lot of fun, and still one of the better TFs).

Is there something I'm missing?

On Virtue Posi gives us cookies and pony rides.

They're hardly new anymore, but we recently got another influx of people who have been gone for so long that they didn't check out the revamped Posi TFs when they were new.

Were I to vote, it would be for one of the Shadow Shard TFs, because that would almost force them to re-do them all.

Other than that, pretty much every TF generation 2 (striga) and onward is fine, and they would end up working through the Freedom Phalanx TFs.

Limited to one of those, I'd argue back and forth with myself about Synapse or Citadel.
