Hero and villain only badges?

I must be misunderstanding something, because as a Vigilante, you can get any of those badges except the Patron badge. They also can't earn the Villain-Only dayjob badges, though they can earn full credit, and will recieve them when they make the switch to full Villain.
As a Rogue, you can get them all.
Also, as a Hero, there is a Tip mission that has Snakes. Run it enough times, and you can get The Mongoose as a Hero. Found that out during Closed Beta.

Here's a list of all previously villain-only badges. There are some defeat badges not on the list because Heroes could earn them, but the enemies are more abundant redside (CoT enemies only available to heroes during the Valentine's event, Tsoo Blue Ink Men, Longbow, Coralax).

As for the confusion/misunderstanding, I think it's on my part... as a Rogue I was hunting mods for defeat badges, and noticed I had credit for defeating CoT bosses. This was for Weed Whacker, but I didn't know that. The description just said bosses, and I was killing CoT bosses left and right without the progress bar moving. Sent in a petition, and got the following...

The "Weed Whacker" Badge comes from defeating specific Circle of Thorns enemies. Not just any will do, and Ruin Mages don't count towards it. The mobs necessary for this badge don't spawn in Cap Au Diable, either, they spawn in either Sharkhead Isle or Nerva Archipelago. Your best bet for earning the badge is to defeat both Succubi and Hellfrosts, as outlined in the article found here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Weed_Whacker I show that, at current, you have 41 defeats in credit towards this badge. Defeat 9 more from amongst Succubi and/or Hellfrosts and you'll earn the badge. It's also worth mentioning that these specific mobs are only available red-side rather than blue, so you would need to be either Rogue or Villain to obtain this badge. |

PS. Just went into the zone and defeated about 25 and no defeat badge meter started so maybe this is a villian only defeat badge.

OK here is a question for you all then. If i have done the respec trial hero side three times and got those badges, should I run the villain one to get the thorn badges? I thought they only awarded if you had the option to select a respec. My badger has long since past that point years ago.

no point in doing the Respecs if you have all three already. The badges are tied into the award of a respec and so will not be available to you.

if you get all 3 respecs for say redside and do not actually use the respec yuo earned from the trial, and go to blueside (full bluside not just a rogue), then you do a respec it should grant you the corresponding respec badges for all respec badges in which it still says to talk to someone to claim the respec
if the badge says "you have used the respec granted" then your SOL on that badge unless it is changed in the future
(example of the above is my mm has 5 of the 6 respec badges, he is missing the first hero respec badge because he used the respec that he got from the first vill respec but he did not use respecs from the 2nd or 3rd villain trials so he went full hero and used those respecs to get the badges for 2nd and 3rd hero respec trials)
edit: i know someone who petitioned about these badges and the response they got said that the devs did intend for us to get all 6 respec badges, but it is not WAI right now
In trolling for data recently I thought I saw where the Devs wanted to make all 6 respecs available to any player. Not sure where I saw it, but 99% sure i didnt dream it. Anybody got info?

Whether it is ever altered is anyone's guess (and at this point only the devs potentially know for sure, and I doubt it's even on their radar).

So far, the only badge that seems to be Vill only is Jail Bird (exploration badge in BreakOut... unless it's in an ouro arc, but I cannot find it there) and the three respec badges if you've already claimed all your respecs as mentioned above.
Also note that a lot of your badges have their name/despcrition changed when you switch sides. So in a sense, "Positron's betrayer" is a "villain only" badge because you have to be a villain to have that badge title. However, you would have had to have earned "Positron's ally" on blue-side first. It's a bit wierd, but if basically if you're gonna be switching sides a lot, don't get too attatched to your abdge titles =)
