Hi-ho, Alchemical Silver, away!
??
Al Sil has been going for 50k+ for as long as I can remember, it's hardly a new phenomenon.

I admit surprise that it took this long for someone to notice and post about it.
total kick to the gut

I've never noticed this or the prices at all before though, since I never used this as a niche!
But I was curious! So I went to the Wentworths in Talos to check it out. Sure enough, Alchemical Silver was going for something like between 50k and 100k apiece!
|
I don't think you'll find anyone in the Market forums which would consider that price particularly expensive. It is a great price for lowbies who can sell 3 or 4 of those and fund DOs / low level generic IOs. But I don't think that price point would cause anyone to balk at buying them.
Crazy range is when you start seeing Boresights sell for 5M apiece.
That's not out of range for the history of that particular piece of salvage. Also 100k is pretty much nothing for any piece of salvage.

I'm getting the feeling someone (or maybe a group?) are trying to bring in inf on their lowbies to start them out with, say, 50 or 100 million or so. That's just a total guess though.
EDIT: Also you happened to remind me what I was doing on Saturday in Talos Island in the first place. I was buying bronze rolls with the 9999 tickets I had and then crafting them to sell them. I've been totally following your example.
What about the demand for them? I think it was something like 12,000 bidding, which seems a little ridiculous to me.

*shrug*
it's a useful bit of salvage that shows up in a lot of good recipes.
But, y'know, keep worrying about a shadowy cabal of eebil geniuses out there breaking their backs for a, what, 500k profit per slot?

so you think its easier to 'corner' a high volume common salvage than to just gleemail a few hundred million to yourself? |
I bought a stack of these like a week ago for like 2600 inf apiece. I actually thought that was weird.
(I didn't flip them, I used them to craft stuff for the L25-30 memorization badges, which I frequently get on multiple characters because, well, they increase my number of salvage slots. Somewhere in there is some kind of recursive irony.)

Riiiiiiight, whatever you say man! But I think you better lay off the sauce a little bit.

on the other hand, manipulating a popular, high volume common over any meaningful length of time would be a tremendously labor intensive exercise for a minuscule profit.
Why do you think otherwise? Explain your logic.

if you wanted to start an alt off with a big pile of money it's really easy to email it to them.

So, yeah. You need your eyes examined. ;P
didn't even notice the prices or demand for this bit of salvage until this Saturday (as I said in my original post! hello?).
|
So I'm just trying to guess at why it's happening. |
The guess a cabal trying to make money for lowbie alts by controlling the alchemical silver market makes no sense at all.
your quote:

Which does provide me with an answer, albeit in a very roundabout way.

A "cabal"? Since when is a group of players (even a hypothetical group) a "cabal"?
This is really making me laugh. You're totally going out of your way to make some huge deal out of this. I guess if it bothers you that much that someone out there is doing something with some common salvage that you'd bust my hump just for noticing it, well... yeah, I think you need to find yourself a better hobby then. Sakes.
Seriously, you've totally gone off the deep end. You should chill the frak out. God forbid I come in here and ask a question, for crying out loud.
Dude, your entire reply is irrelevant. Did you take some hate-pills this morning or something?

Last night, I yelled at a PvPer on the forums.....not a thing I normally do.
Hugs to all.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOU THINK MANIPULATING COMMON SALVAGE MAKES MORE SENSE THAN JUST EMAILING YOUR LOWBIES SOME INF.
Or do your rhetorical skills cap out at posting non sequiturs in lieu of answering direct questions?

Let me put it to you in plain English, since you seem to have a problem with that today: I don't think, nor did I ever say that I think that manipulating common salvage makes more sense than just emailing your low level characters some influence.
Are you being intentionally this obtuse or are you really itching for a fight for no reason? I just said that because I have absolutely no idea why it's happening.
If you still don't get it after this then you're just totally hopeless.

Then why surmise that some person or persons were manipulating AlSil to fund their lowbies, as you did earlier in the thread?
|
No, but it's hard to get anywhere with someone who answers clear, direct questions with insults and gibberish. |
In case you weren't certain about it, I can't read minds. So I have no idea why someone is playing with Alchemical Silver (in case you didn't read it the first half dozen times I've written those words on this thread; please try to keep your eyes open when you're looking at my replies, thanks!). Maybe they think manipulating is better? Who knows? But that's all I've got.
But actually, I don't really care anymore. You've managed to totally derail this thread. You can go take a long walk off a short pier for all I care, now.
I've already said several times that I was trying to guess what they were doing.

I am not at all convinced that it is even practical to "manipulate" prices of salvage for any length of time, or that it would be plausible to make money that way.
I've heard people claim that there are griefers who do this on purpose, not to make money but just to deny others cost-effective supply, but it seems pretty crazy to me.
Chalk it up to a misunderstanding and let it go, guys.
There's profit to be made out there!
I think it was this Saturday that I was on my Rogue MM in Talos Island on Virtue, doing something or other, when I heard this other player shout in Broadcast about how Alchemical Silver is going for crazy prices on the market. I believe he said something to the effect that all the marketeers must be going insane or something. As I happened to have one in my inventory, I just mailed it him to try to be helpful.
But I was curious! So I went to the Wentworths in Talos to check it out. Sure enough, Alchemical Silver was going for something like between 50k and 100k apiece! And the demand for them was through the freaking roof, like someone was afraid they were going to go out of style.
I think someone is on to something.
Maybe I should get in on it?
