How is Claws for a Brute?

I returned to the game after a two-year hiatus and just noticed that Brutes got claws while I was gone.

I've never had the desire to play Claws, but I think on a Brute it could be a lot of fun. I imagine you could do some cool things combined with Fury.

But in your opinion, what secondary meshes particularly well with Claws?

Thanks.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

Claws for Brutes is fantastic. Just downright awesome.

Best secondary? Any(Cept Stone and Shield). Im going Claws/Fire right now, but really anything would work.

You might find claws even better now that Fury had some changes to allow faster Fury Build with more Fury duration. Claw/ is already blender-tastic for fast attacks, so you will probably be guffawing with bladed glee.

A lot of people go with /SR to pair up with Claw, but my brute is a claw/WP and I lurvs it.

It is worth noting that while Claws are still pretty fast as sets go, the Brute version is a little slower (but harder hitting) than the Scrapper or Stalker versions.

How so? Does it have different attacks, or are the animations intentionally slowed down?

As for pairing, I'm not sure which direction I would like to go. I have a Stone/Willpower Brute, so probably not that way. How is Claws/Elec?

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

They slowed the Recharge time and upped the damage on the individual powers, to better fit in with the Brute AT. The actual animation time of the powers remains unchanged.

Which is actually a boost to the set overall. And the set is still ultra-fast, even without IO's, or +Recharge, or Hasten, or anything like that.

..And therefore, with little +recharge thrown in, it only gets godly from there.

So, back to the OP: Yes, Claws/Elec would be GREAT with the end management, +recharge auto and damage aura.

Currently I have a Claws/Invul with a sharkish theme.

I like him well enough but being at level 12 means its rough going. But later on it should get alot better especially with Invinc. You could always go for that. Although WP is apparently the more popular choice now.

I'm gonna second the /elec suggestion. Damage aura, unlimited endurance, +recharge auto power.

ELA is a great secondary, probably 1 of my 2 favorites which also includes WP. I like ELA before they changed Conserve Power (IIRC) to Energize. ELA has great utility and really good comprehensive resistance.

a question is follow up useful for brutes or not

Very useful. It's a decent attack on it's own, but what is really nice is the +to-Hit. The damage boost is tolerable, like eating a medium red, but Brute's don't tend to notice that alot. But the constant To-Hit bonus is fantastic, letting you blend through enemies with high defense, like Rikti Drones, and stuff like that. I recommend slotting it like a regular attack, but tossing in some +to-hit as well. Frankenslotting To-Hit sets with normal Melee sets works really well in this power.

YES!!! O God Yes! LOL

In Beta I made a Claws/Fire I remember using follow up plus Fiery Embrace + Spin/Burn with full Fury...I actually fell out of my chair convulsing and foaming at the mouth. It was just that awesome.

I got my friend back into the game within the past week.

As he was looking for a set to play (I suggested the noble brute), he happened across my thread.

So, certainly and purely out of spite, he decided to create a Claws/Elec Brute of his own! DEVIOUS!

So that is attempting to sway me from playing one. I may go with a different secondary, perhaps fire, though my Spine/Fire Scrapper at 28 is oh-so-squishy, and I remember even my Fire/EM Tank being quite squishy until I got Tough/Weave going on him (this is old school we're talking here).

Hmm. I'll have to think on it. Dark Armor would probably have good synergy with it. but I just don't think I'm that interested in DA.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

Claws for Brutes is indeed great. I love my attack chain of Follow-Up > Focus > Gloom.

Claws... yessss...

To be honest, the animations of the three basic attacks are kind of uninspiring (though, let's be honest, a vast improvement over the original claws animations). Basically you're stabbing people. Nothing fancy like the dual blades attacks, just stabbity stab stab stab rip rip.

But... it's low end and you build fury fast. I play a claws/wp brute and I got stamina out of habit, but it actually feels excessive at this point.

Scrapper Jack (SJ/WP Brute), Sky Commando (WP/SJ Tanker), Curveball (Rad/DP Defender), and a bunch more.

That's not actually possible. Unless you mean that you wait around several seconds after Gloom before doing any other attack.
