Problem connecting to updater

Seems that the updater server is down. on connecting try #73. Anyone else having this problem?

I just closed the updated and tried again - no issue second try.

I had the same trouble, restarted the updater a heap of times with no joy.

Restarted my router a couple times and connected no probs.

L50 as a Tank, Mastermind, Soldier, Blaster, Defender & Brute so far. Still trying testing alts in search of my 'main'. So many possibilities!

I went to bed and slept the rest of the night. I came back this morning, and 'poof', it works fine now.

ever since 31-12-2010 i got the problem again, it was fine since the launch of going rogue. But now i has to connect so many times, i just tried shutting down the computer to no avail. It cannot be my server as I am writing this. So it has to be problems with the updater. Anyone else having trouble?

Yeah... am having the same problem with the updater. Just seems to sit there trying to connect and doesn't get anywhere

How many of you folks are EU-side? If so, there's a thread in the Euro lounge for this problem.

I did have a friend with a similar problem with the updater and when finally getting through, the game freezing on the server select screen. This has only occured over the last few days since they last were online on thursday 30th.

Checked files, firewall and router without success. Then done a system restore to Tuesday 28th as there had been a couple of windows updates since he was last online and that solved the problem.

Not sure if that helps but thought I should mention it.

Been having the same problem all day. It's super annoying since now I cant get the Winter event badges on all the toons I was planning to play today...

My main toons on Union:
Majer; Dark/Dark Corruptor
Caitlin Calathea; Plant/Thorns Dominator
Davallia Fejeensis; Empathy/Archery Defender

Yep, having this issue also, connects fine when I first start up comp; but if I log out, updater will not connect again until I restart comp.

Think this is an issue with the EU updater only.

Too many 50's to list here's a few you may know.

EU servers here and having lots of problems since they moved the server machines to the US. Usually only takes a reset or 2 to get past the updater but now? Been waiting over 3 hours and it still won't go past connecting.

I'm with Virgin and i have spoken to them and they say its not me its NCSoft. My partner plays on a different pc and he can get on fine when i can't and vice versa. Hell i play a lot of other games which take more resources than CoH and they run fine too so it's not even my machine.

Thing is if we don't get a fix for this soon, my partner and i are gonna be giving up on CoH altogether and sticking with our other games, something i do not really want to do but waiting for 3+ hours isn't fun to me in all honesty.

And for those who tinker with their shortcuts (and I'm not trying to be snarky/offensive here)... i don't like doing it and if i get forced to do it it's not exactly a fix by NCSoft is it? I know you guys are trying to help but NC need to sort the problem out their end instead of making out its our ISP's/Machines/insert excuse here.

Yup, I'm having the same problem too, and it's only getting worse.

When it first started happening restarting the PC or flushing the DNS cache would fix it, but for the past few days that won't work either. It'll only connect once in a blue moon now.

I've just had this problem. Normally, flushing the thing-ma-jig (Not big on technical terms) solves it, but this time, nothing :l

I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...

Tried another way around it last night by opening 5 instances of the updater, this seemed to work pretty quickly.

I know it's not ideal but at least you can get into the game quicker through the updater without having reset comp or router.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

I've been having this problem for a few days now and was unable to resolve it so rebuilt my PC believing some files had become corrupted, and then I find this thread.
And no the rebuild hasn't helped.

Is there a fix anywhere for this or at least a comment from a Red Name saying that it's being looked into and some timescales?

Same here. It was wobbly for a few days last week and now it's completely borked.

Okay, I'm still having trouble with this.

Also I'm pinging cohupdate.coh.com and getting General failure back.

Tried to tracert to it but got General failure again.

I can ping and tracert to other sites, just not cohupdate.coh.com or cityofheroes.com

EU user.

Edit: Tried cohupdateeu.coh.com too, again, failure.

Edit 2: Sorted it, was a program I was using which blocked it.
