Looking for a farming build both hero and villain side
The flavor of the month hero side is the electic shield defence scrapper. Generally people get a repeatable mission at lvl 50 for xp and recipe drops and use that or they use AE for xp, inf and ticket rolls. Not too sure villian side it used to be super strenth fire i think.

The basic idea is you find a build which, suitably geared/tricked out, can obtain some resource at a particularly fast pace -- say, solo-farming missions at +4/x8 for inf or rare drops or whatever. Typically, recipes, salvage, or AE tickets, or some combination of those.
There are many different ways to go about this, and to some extent it's a question of which play styles you enjoy most. You should also take into account time to level to whatever level you want; for instance, you might prefer to level to 33, turn off XP, and farm AE for tickets, which you use for recipe rolls which would give you mostly level 30 (for 1-30s) and 33 (for everything else) rare recipes, which you can then craft.
In some cases, you might trade off some efficiency of farming for other traits, such as enjoyability of the play while doing the farming.

Here's the breakdown. If you want purples only, the fastest way is to get a farm mission in PI. Set it to -1x8. Since 47-50 drops purples, it's faster to kill 49's than 54's.
If you want fast inf. Get an AE farm mish. Roll 35-39 silver drops. It drop procs, Kinetic Combats, Numinas, and Miracles, ToD, Oblits. Those sell up to 200 mil each.
I farm with a Fire/Kin troller and an Elec/SD scrapper on blue. Both are very efficient. I've also seen Plant/Kins and Plant/Storm even do very good.
It depends on the map also. Freak farms stun alot. I avoid it. Demons deflect alot also, taking longer to kill. (yes, even on high end builds) Council and Warriors tend to be the easiest. Family is, too, without Bosses. I think they do mental damage along with Crazed.
Good luck. Have fun. And if by chance you have 2 accounts, like me, stop a toon at 35 for your own recipes in AE since WW is mostly dried up under 50.

If you don't wanna invest too much in a farmer, I suggest rolling a SS/WP Brute or Fire/Kin Controller. Both do fairly well with cheap builds or just SOs alone. If you're willing to spend more, I would go with a SS/Fire Brute.

I'm looking for a build on the hero and the villain side for farming.
Also looking for information on farming itself, I'm relatively new, so i don't know where to farm, or what to farm>? I'm guessing you would farm enhancments and salvage/recipes. What would be some methods here? |
Q1) How much difference does the top end gear make, compared to vendor trash, in this game? How much compared to middle-end gear?
A1) If you outfit a level 50 with store-bought SO's, it costs you about 5.5 million inf. If you spend [literally] 5 billion inf on your character, you'll be around twice as effective as SO's. If you spend 15 million inf or so on cheap "frankenslotting" you'll be around 50% more effective than SO's.
Q2) Is there any gear that drops from farming that you can't buy on the market?
A2) Almost nothing is "bind on drop". Vanguard merits are the only thing that occurs to me, and those get you almost nothing but costume pieces. There are some things that only sell very rarely at the market, but that's as close as we come.
Q3) I beat up a level 10 Skull and got 100 inf for it. There are recipes at my level selling for 10,000,000 inf. How do I get them?
A3) Buy something for 100, sell it for 5,000; Repeat 10 times. Buy something for 11,000 and sell it for 50,000; repeat twice. Buy something for 100,000; craft it and sell it for 2 million. Buy something for 2 million, craft it, and sell it for 10 million. Do that last step 10 times. There are lots of other ways.
Q4) How does that even work? Don't people notice?
A4) There is a stupid amount of money in this game. There are a lot of people who don't even notice the difference between 1 million and 10 million. Those are your customers. Eventually you can become one of them.
Q5) Is the whole point of this post "Farm the market, not the game?"
A5) Well, that's what I do and I've given away literally billions of inf for people to build bases. I don't have any truly high-end builds at all and I've never been turned away from a group, that I know of, for having a "bad build". Some people like farming. I wouldn't say I'm better than them, but I wouldn't say that I'm worse.

@Blue Lava
You just started. Don't you want to play some of the rest of the game first?
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
So with the new issue and expansion, would electric/shield scrapper still be the best thing to use for farming recipes and valueable SO's and IO recipes?
also, where do you guys farm?
personally id go fire/shield scrapp, less AoE dmg but much higher ST so it can be great at everything in game as opposed to mainly farming, but it still makes a great farmer
Ive looked around and found a site on the net that shows slotting basics for fire melee, but i can't find any on secondary shield. I'm talking about basics in example as " 2 accuracy 2 damage 2 end redux"
if anyone knows how to slot normal training and DO's on shield secondary, let me know. I don't need to know how to slot end game enhancments yet, so please don't suggest slotting for those yet because my soon to be made fire/shield scrapper will take a while to get there
If you don't wanna invest too much in a farmer, I suggest rolling a SS/WP Brute or Fire/Kin Controller. Both do fairly well with cheap builds or just SOs alone. If you're willing to spend more, I would go with a SS/Fire Brute.

OP: Fire/Shield or Elec/Shield are both going to be expensive builds. Either of those will be in the billion+ ballpark for a good build that will farm quickly at x8.
I'm not a Fire/Kin fan. The playstyle really doesn't work for me. But, it's still a great fast & cheap farming toon. For 100 million or less, you can have a Fire/Kin that is softcapped to S/L damage, and will work very well.
Another option, that makes both a great general purpose toon as well as an excellent farmer, is a Fire/Rad controller. Unfortunately, like Shield scrappers, it's a fairly expensive build to make work well.
so what archetype is fire/kin ?
ok i found a fire/kin farming build, how would i slot this with training or so/do's? I'm asking this because every build i find is slotted with io's and i don't know where to go to find out how to slot this before i can start using things besides just plain 2 accuracy, 2 damage, 2 hold etc for the slotting.

Why are you so concerned about farming? You're new. Play the game.
For dual-origin slotting attacks, "two acc, as many damage as you can fit."
For dual-origin slotting defenses, "one end reduction, as many defense/damage resist as you can fit."
SO basic slotting: one acc/three damage/ whatever-you-need and one endred/three defense or resist .
A full set of level 22 SO's costs about a million inf. If you need a million inf, right NOW, not tomorrow or in two hours: go to Wentworth's, buy as many level 40-50 set recipes as you can get for 100 inf each [look for uglies like immobilize or snipe, 0 bidding 20+ for sale] and sell them to the nearest store. Run back and forth doing this till you've sold about 100. This is the worst return on time there is, or close to it, but it will pay for your SO's if you are short on cash.

Learn the game, there are too many lowbies racing out to farm because it what the "cool kids" do.
The reason that farmers are good at what they do is because they know the game and can design their characters to be accomplished at what task they want to perform.
If you don't know the basics I would refuse to hand you a farm build.

Yep, as Fulmens and Donna have said, don't bother with a farmer yet. Better to play a character that you enjoy and just, well, play the game. You get plenty of infulence from doing so, and if you really want more, spending 5-10 minutes a day playing the market is far far more time efficient than farming.

I'm also interested in the OP's reasons tho...
He wants to farm to get influence...
Which is used to buy IO's that you have no understanding of ?
So why are you farming!
Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.
I enjoy farming, that is my first reason. One thing i did plenty of in diablo 2 was farming with an MF sorc. Influence is just a secondary reward.
and i don't see how some of you are getting upset over something as simple as this.
if this thread upsets you, then by all means don't pay attention to it.
I see this a lot when people bring up farming, others telling them to just play the game. I assume when people ask about farming, it's because they want to.
Although, I do agree that you should play up your first character the old fashion way since farming is what lvl 50s usually do.

Farming is almost always a means to an end, when we see it around here. You'd kind of have to go back before Going Rogue to find it, which is at least 16 pages in THIS forum... but almost every "What's best for farming?" thread I've ever seen really meant "What's the best way to get the nicest stuff in the game?" There's also often an assumption that you NEED the nicest stuff in the game or you're a sick sad player who will have no friends.
Farming for its own sake is a valid hobby which I do not share. Good luck and good hunting.

I am having a blast with my fire/fire scrapper. I have a lvl 47 mish that I increase in difficulty (I'm only 49) to be on par with my lvl and set it for x6 or so.. depends on my mood... and go to town.
It's a council farm and I've had some fair drops so far. No purps yet, but hopefully I'll get one at some point, otherwise as I stated, the drops have been fair enough.
I also have the Warrior Clan mish as a farm and that is a huge map and tons of fun.
The second toon that I'm running (only at 42 though) is, fotm, em/sd scrapper. Great fun! LR is a great looking power and does some good damage. I have it up every second mob pretty much.
*edit - I also play my lower lvl toons. I farm when I want some infl or am undecided which char to play. I always suggest that if this is your first toon - play the game. It's loaded with incredible story arcs and you can meet some amazing people to team with. *
