I Want It All ;D

Several of my friends have come back to CoH as the new expansion draws near. We have started a new group of heroes and it has been left up to me to play a healer type. I have looked at the Empathy set and it looks kinda dull. I would like to play a healer that does well solo and in large groups.

Is there a healer out there that can do good damage and heal as well? The type of healing doesn't matter to me (single,aura).

Any suggestions?

I've done very well with a dark/dark defender. Some very strong healing available in that, and a mess of debuffing that helps the whole group, and some very decent attacks for me to dish out whenever I'm free. Good fun.

Your friends need to learn that a defender will always be better than a "healer."

First thing to know is that Buffing/Debuffing is a million times more effective in this game than a "Healer." In fact, "healer" is something of a four letter word to people who regularly play Defenders.

On topic, I would agree with the Dark/Dark Def idea suggested above. Also, a powerful alternative may be to go with a Controller that has some sort of Buff/Debuff secondary. In that case, you can't go wrong with an Ill/Rad.

If you go with a Controller a Fire/Kin would be good too. Fire as good damage and Kin gives you more damage with Fulcrum Shift. It as a good heal in Transfusion and If your team as a lot of Melee it is a really good heal.

If you go with a Defender as other have said a Dark/Dark is good, but I like my Dark/Ice better.

Roll a */ Pain Dom Corruptor then switch sides when GR comes out in 2 weeks.

I suggest you roll something with buffs/debuffs and pass respites to your teammates if they still want heals.

I like defenders but there are some very effective controller sets, too. Fire/thermal or Ice/thermal would give you good shield buffs and various heals in your thermal secondary. Any more when someone says something to me about passing out heals I think of what a thermal could bring to the table because it has the good damage resist shields.

I'm with the others. I farm, run TF's, solo, you name it and i do it. And i do it all without a "healer".

If you want to run Emp then i'd go Fire/Emp for the stuns and imps. But personally, i'd go with a controller. Plant/Kin or /Storm are both awesome combos. Fire/Storm is a beast as well as Ill/Rad.

If you want a good buff/debuff/damage or control I'd go Cold/Ice or Ice/Cold. (it works for both troller and def)

A bit more left-field, but you might consider bringing a bots/pain mm over to blueside. Definitely soloable, and the heals are still pretty solid especially if you grab power boost. I've completed LRSFs with mine as the main "heal guy", which is one of the few instances you would really consider having someone to focus on heals.

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions. I have one last question: What happens when you run out of character slots and cant buy more? I'm on Virtue and I dont want to switch servers. I have all my slots full. Is there anyway to link two account together so I can get all the Vet rewards and things?

Storm doesn't have a heal so much as it has a "oh look, some silly person ran out of the range of the incredible stack of knockdowns and debuffs and got a booboo" button.

I didn't say Storm had a good heal, just that it has a healing power.

If you really want to heal, roll a */regen scrapper

I once joined a team on a dark/dark scrapper after billing myself as a 'healer'. When called on it, I jumped into a large group of enemies and hit dark regen. Then said "I just said I'm a healer, and I am. I never mentioned who I heal. Now let's get back to slaughtering everything."

I should note that we were steamrolling without a 'healer'.
