Well, foo. I finally found the information I needed on the support site, and you're right. Thank you for the quick answer, though!

I have this terrible feeling I've missed the obvious and will realize it as soon as I hit the Submit button...
I've got a friend who played a CoH trial a few months back and loved it, and is today upgrading to a full account. As a gift, I'd like to give her the expansion and a booster or two. I don't quite see how to do this at the store - when I start the purchase process it asks me to select from my own account list.
What can I do to get the codes, not use them myself, and pass them along? -
I've done very well with a dark/dark defender. Some very strong healing available in that, and a mess of debuffing that helps the whole group, and some very decent attacks for me to dish out whenever I'm free. Good fun.

Oh, and for the sake of completeness: warshades get pretty insane AOE, and a bunch of cool fun survivability aids. Takes a while to put all the moving parts together, but when it clicks it's a wild, distinctive ride.

Another voice here recommending anything with Willpower. It has the specific advantage of Quick Recovery at level 20 - it covers the same ground as Stamina, but has no prerequisites, which means you can spend some teen levels getting powers you'd like to have (and that may help you do more damage!) than what you have to have to get Stamina.
You'll still want it later on, but you can fold it in at some point in the 20s or 30s, no biggie.
By the way, though I'd never claim she's the queen of AOE or anything like that, my broadsword/willpower scrapper does have some nice AOEs, and Willpower provides good support in the form of Rise to the Challenge for throwing her into the biggest mobs I can find and beating them down. -
I just started up a new BS/WP scrapper. She's up to level 22 and I'm having a blast. Thank you for the very, very handy guide!

Quote:Hmm. Maybe so, though redside often depresses me. I do have friends who want me to do something villainous.Make a Dominator- with that you have the best of both worlds. Safety through controls and the punch of a blaster. Mind/psi concept Ftw.
Quote:IMHO blaster- if you're looking primarily to solo, always go with damage.
I've had a mind/kin controller for most of my CoH career and despite folk who sing the praises of the combo I can't stand soloing him. He's an awesome amount of fun on a team, but soloing him is best described as "tedious". Given the way /kin boosts your damage, I can't imagine any other combo doing any better.
I have a psi/dev blaster (concept PPD character) who's still fairly 'young' at level 20-ish but who solos quite nicely and is a lot of fun to play. The changes to Defiance made a huge difference in blaster soloability, no need to keep a tray of break-frees handy at all times anymore. -
Yes, I do understand about the problems facing any psychic-oriented character as she levels up - the increasing resistance (including, boo, among enemies I like to fight), and all the rest. So when I say I want one anyway, I understand that I'm talking about a character I'll have some fun leveling and almost certainly end up shelving along the way.
Nevertheless, I want one, because deep inside me is still the adolescent girl who was fascinated by Marvel Girl and Emma Frost, Saturn Girl, and characters like that.
So! How do Psychic Blast (presumably supported by Mental Manipulation) and Mind Control (supported by, um, dunno, might be Empathy or Force Fields or Kinetics) compare for soloing: Speed? Escape options? Endurance hogging? Stuff I don't yet know enough to ask about? -
I'm interested in trying this out and found plenty of useful advice in all the guides for it listed in the Tanker Guides. (Thank you, authors and collators; I love that stuff.) But the builds contain some things I know I'd prefer not to do when leveling up, like postponing Taunt until level 24, or 36, or whatever. Since I know WP is weak in aggro handling, and I know that I want to do some grouping along with soloing, I know I'd want to move that right up to 10.
But I don't know what else I don't know.Would someone care to offer a build for WP/SS with leveling in mind? Thank you!
