I am unrepentant. If people don't want to be corrected, they can just ignore me. But I suspect there are a lot of people out there who would actually appreciate being told they they were using a word incorrectly. I certainly don't mind if someone corrects me. I don't have my ego all tied up in being right.
*comes back the next day*
Oh hi! o.o
Almost 3 pages because of a typo.
I was trying to be all tongue and cheek but my worser nature got the better of me.
Bad Frostbiter! Bad!
Proper vocabulary, spelling and grammar are critical factors to success in life. Learn it, love it, live it!

They are important factors, but you are misusing the word critical.
|
I'd put in my image of a Smiley eating popcorn again, but I still can't access www.freesmileys.org anymore. Did the site close? lol
Critical
7.of decisive importance with respect to the outcome; crucial: a critical moment. 8.of essential importance; indispensable I see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure I'd consider my use of the word inappropriate. |
True enough, but there is a time and a place for everything. In your example, you personally knew the person you were correcting. In Camper's case, he felt the need to come in and correct a complete stranger's grammar after their question was answered and the thread was effectively concluded. Sounds a little crass, doesn't it?
|
Wow - another thread derailed totally by the grammar squad. Imagine that!

Try and find it elsewhere, then host it yourself. I can get there; in fact, gimme a minute.
|
You can access the site? Man, I have not been able to view it for weeks. I double checked that I didn't accidentally block the domain or something, but I still cannot visit the page. I use FireFox, but I even tested in IE as well with same result.
I'd simply save and host it myself, but there is a handful of smileys I used on a regular basis, as well as the random search for other funny ones. |
It's recommended you don't use the old site you linked to. Besides not being largely accurate, It's apparently overrun with advertisements and "RMT gold sellers" that may try to steal your account. I wish there was a way to get it taken down or auto-link to the new site. I feel bad for anybody who does a Google search for help and ends up there.
|
Save the ones you use a lot; inability to access that site seems to happen frequently for you.

Great... Now I have to comment.
![]() Commas help to act as a substitute for the words 'and/or,' and it's now being taught to ignore that last comma when writing a list. Otherwise he would be saying, "Proper vocabulary and spelling and and grammar..." Might I add, the rules of grammar change every other day... Every generation is either learning a new rule, or is dealing with the absense of a rule in the ever shifting battle to find the 'perfect sentence.' |
You know, I saw the 'nerdrage' tag, so naturally it piqued (note, not 'peaked') my curiosity.
"This thread seems innocent enough. Where's the ... Oh, wait, here we go."
For those who rage against being corrected, I would only say this. Someday, spelling and grammar might make the difference between getting a job, promotion, or other reward, and not getting it. And spelling and grammar are both learned skills. It's not something you just turn on and 'do it right' when you know it counts.
For those who live to correct, and who rage against being forced to read post after post of horribly-constructed grammar, lolspeak, 7334speak and skipped Oxford commas?
Lighten up, Francis.
This is still going?
I fully understand the importance of good grammar, but all this started over a single letter and a typo no less according to the OP. I am SO sorry I decided to call out Camper for what I felt was a little extreme.
Oh, and thanks for posting your global in your signature, Aggelakis.

Typing words in all caps in the middles of a sentence is just as wrong as using arch instead of arc. Or worse really. Correcting you if case someone less knowledgeable does come along and learn something wrong.
|
Now you're wrong. Using all caps for emphasis is a style choice. Using arch instead of arc is simply wrong.
Just pointing this out in case someone less knowledgeable about trolling comes along and your post slips past them. ![]() |
Passive aggression? Well, I suppose, if one feels the need to go that way.
