A bad case of timing.

*Grumble* *Grumble* *Grumble*

There I am, all psyched to load up the game and take one of my characters to the tailors for a revamp. New uniform, beefing up old uniform, a change to civvie clothes and all. Then I was thinking of doing some old arcs on him. I check my auctions, arrive at Pocket D to battle with that terrible tailor, and...

[ADMIN] The server will be going down in 10 minutes for the daily maintenance, 2 hour window, so on, so forth.

Khaaaaaaaaaaan!

Now I don't have an excuse to not do my Children's Week achievements over on WoW for a while.

So, has the chimes of maintenance ever kicked in and put a dampener on your plans and activities in game?

Talk about bad timing, huh?

Mine was cool, too. See, I HATE the timer on Mayhem missions, but I deal with it. So imagine my joy when I was finally allowed to go into an instance of Independence port not as part of a Mayhem mission and not on the clock. I'm like "Cool! Now I can take my time and explore and kill everything!" No dice. Half-way through, I get the half-hour warning that the servers are going down.

I couldn't explore half the map and I ended up finishing the mission with about 10 seconds to spare before I was kicked off... Sorry, "forcibly disconnected" from the server.

Man, I just had that happen to me about ten minutes ago. Got on, found one of my two good friends online, we start up one of my AE arcs and we get the 30 minute warning.

We managed to do all three missions in the arc, but then we had to go, the ten minute warning had just popped up. The bad part was I had an hour to play before my GF wakes up. Which is why I'm here posting on the forums instead of playing. After that I guess I'll just hang out with the GF.

I kid of course about the , heh heh

One of the seasonal events over on WoW is Children's Week, where you lend a hand at the various orphanages in Azeroth and Outland. Quests to do, and achievements to complete as well, such as [Bad Example] (Where you have to eat a range of sweets in front of your Orphan) and [Hail to the King, Baby!] (Where you need to defeat a boss in a dungeon, King Ymiron, with your orphan summoned.). Completing the achievements grants you the meta achievement for the event, granting you the Matron/Patron title, and if you get all the meta achievements for the seasonal events, you get [What a Long, Strange Trip it's Been], which rewards you with a Violet Proto-Drake that has 310% flying speed, 30% more than most standard epic flying mounts.

I've been slacking on doing the events having gotten back into playing City of Heroes.

Wish we had some of the more varied events in the city, rather than a snaffleload of Snaptooth. Where's Independence Day? Veteran's Day? Thanksgiving?

If you make a point of destroying everything in your path and get the side missions done in an orderly fashion, you can finish the Mayhem with 25-30 minutes left on the clock, ample time to clear the map with time left over to explore anywhere you might not have been yet.

But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

I just managed to get the alt I'd logged in completely IO'd up with about 30 seconds to spare...

Then I realised in the rush I'd put one of then in the wrong place, so I needed to make 2 more. With no salvage, no recipe and no time

However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator

Many times I have psyched myself to play CoH, even decided which character to play until the news of Server Maintenance dampened it. I guess that's why God gave us the Internet... and Wii!

Ummmm ... ummm. Holy crap.. I had heard WoW had some weird stuff, but eating sweets in front of orphans is really freaking weird.

Hey, I took those orphans to all the places they wanted to go, bought them toys, and even got one ice cream. I think I'm perfectly entitled to eat cakes and such in front of them and abandon them by using my Hearthstone for the sake of achievements.

I'm reminded of 20 years ago when I'd chat all night on a local 30 line BBS. There'd be maybe six people online with four chatting away and two on the boards. The system would go down every morning at 6:00am for auto-maintenence, and it would start warning everyone online about half an hour before. Almost all of us always took that as a sign to log the heck out and go to bed already!

It was the same thing when I ended up on a few MUCKs and MUSHes five years after that; the server shutting down for routine maintenence early in the morning. So really, this sort of thing just fills me with nostalgia.

that's nothing. The Halloween event has your character eating candy as fast as possible until it, um, hurls thereby earning an achievement. First time I saw that in Stormwind in the crowded area by the Auction House, seemed everyone was puking their guts out. I about hurled at my keyboard (had the same near-reaction the first time I fought the Vahz in the sewers. )

wow, thats one weak constitution you have...

Guild Wars had a getting drunk achievement. That was a quite funny one to work towards.
