Question about Rep Bars and how to read them

Note: I am NOT asking for rep nor trying to troll. Please don't view this as a request for points.

Okay, see my rep bar? I've noticed that I have bright green bars and dull green bars. Also, that my dull green bars have been the ones increasing lately, as opposed to the bright green ones.

What does this mean? If it's a bad thing, I'm absolutely okay with that. If it's good, that also works. I just want to understand what's happening with my rep so that I can review by posts accordingly.

Thanks!

Funny, it's actually mentioned in one thread over on "the other forum". It's like leveling up in D&D, so many rep points gets you another bar. For whatever reason, after 5 they change color. Right now you have as many bars as you can get with five bright, and six dull.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

Interesting. All right, that's all I needed to know. I thought they were negative rep and was getting really self-conscious. In my mind, the harder I tried, the more people hated me. Was so confusing!

Okay, thank you both for your clarification.

Rep is mostly a silly and meaningless thing that can be turned into something silly and fun as long as people don't take it serously. It does help, however, to quickly identify someone as a troll.

Or someone who unintentionally irked someone else who has a sizeable rep reserve. As I understand it, the more rep you have, the more your vote affects others' rep.

Not as much as you think. I'm maxed out, but I can't reduce or increase another poster as much as a single bubble in 24 hours. And the forums are set up so that you can't rep the same poster too often. Sort of.

Back when comments were easily accessible, people had a habit of giving me genuine feedback both ways. It helped my forum posting greatly, as I learned what posting styles were appreciated or seen as trolling.

Since then, I've come to agree with you for the most part.

Like I said, I thought I was getting a stream of neg rep and wanted to know if I deeply offended people lately.

Oh no. Neg rep is when you see red instead of green, but it works the same way. So many points below zero gets you another red bar, to a total of five bright, and six dull. Of course to those who are red/green color blind....

And they think that people feel indifferent about them. Passionately.

I have never seen anyone with more than 2 red bars. Including some I know who actively farm -rep.

I've seen several. Heck, GG went from one red bar to three today.

Both my posts referenced women. Not sure to whom you referred.

Good for both?

Sun_Splitter has 11 pips of negative rep.

Also, with a defaut vBulletin installation, reputation is supposed to be 5 dull pips and then indefinite bright pips. For some reason, our forum has this turned around.

We're saving energy by keeping fewer green bars lit. Less electrical waste, lower energy bill, easier on the environment.

In other words, we're going green by not.

Two things:

1) lolREP
2) I miss having my comments all in one place, they were the best part of the whole system.

Get the right person and you can change by more than 500 points of rep in a single vote. This was back when you could see comments without jumping through hoops but I had gone from +340-something to -174 with the addition of a single negative comment. Now admittedly, it could have been more than one person but the rep comment was adorably vitriolic and was countered to +20 or so in a few days off the same post, so I like to assume the person's anger fueled the subtraction of rep.

Knockback threads are amazing engines of change where rep is concerned.

It changes at half way from red to green and at 3/4th to full from solid green to dark green. But it doesn't change colors at all while in the negatives, which is too bad.

Yes it does.
