Yes, I can see where being able to have 7 other characters from your account, or friends accounts, as AI Pets could be fun.
However, since you're new here and perhaps never met our esteemed colleague Fusionette, or some of our other awesomely aggromagnet stars such as Lady Grey, I would have to politely decline your offer and request that you gain a bit more experience into the workings of our wonderful AI System for pets and NPCs.
For further study, you may want to create a Fire Control / Kinetics Controller and see what happens when you finally get your Fire Imps. Those Imps will give you a good idea as to how your suggestion could go horribad in a heartbeat.

Sometimes I use my two accounts and two computers to PL one toon with another. But the problem is, the other toon doesn't do much or say anything, so I find it terribly boring. Then I go back to teaming with actual people, which is much more fun. ^_^
But yeah, quite a few people have done that sort of thing, or even run up to 8 accounts concurrently as noted above.

I put the defender on follow and auto-heal, and then my scrapper can crank up the difficulty having a dedicated medic handy.

You can do this in the game. Just create the missions in the Mission Architect. Create your alts as Allies, and then they can fight along side you in your own created custom content.

My team wish is to actually get rid of the -1 level penalty for lower level side-kicks. I think it punishes those players that don't get their crutch power (as they are usually over level 20) have lower enhancements (usually only TO and DOs, or just less enhancements in general) and forces them to fight roughly 20% harder (-10% accuracy, -10% damage, etc.)
When you sidekick, everyone should actually just be your level.
