How many famous people do we know of that play CoH?

Rick Astley.

Or at the very least, a guy who uses the name and claims to be THE Rick Astley.

Sorry, Daemodand, we were sleeping at the wheel.

Erm, I'm Spartacus? (or maybe I'm Kirk Douglas?)

Well-known stand-up comedian John Roy is one of our brethren, though I don't remember him posting for a while (John, if you're out there, say something funny). I seem to recall he's working on a comic project at the moment, too.

It wasn't Champion. But I didn't want to specify what server I was talking about because I didn't want to out him if it turns out it was really him.

NASCAR driver David Reutimann played CoV quite a bit.

I've never heard of the people mentioned so far (except Sparticus, Batman, Cher, etc.), so as far as I'm concerned, no one famous plays this game.

I have heard rumors, though unconfirmed, that Kevin Smith plays somewhat regularly. Again, those are unconfirmed rumors.

I have been in a national print-ad campaign (two publications) by name, had a nationally published book dedicated to me (along with about 10 others), had a local TV news story about me and two partners and had some of my exploits blogged about but famous? Meh... Nope. But I do play CoH a lot!

I heard a rumor that Duff McKagen plays (bass player of Guns & Roses and Velvet Revolver)

Just a rumor though, I've never confirmed it.

Laf, I'll try to remember to ask Jim next time I see him whether that actually happened. I just saw him on last night. His wife Shannon is also a fairly famous author and she plays as well.

Not sure if it's true or not, of course. May just be rumor, but my comprehension of the EULA leads me to believe it's a possibility.
I spoke to a prominant comic book artist at San Diego two years ago and he said he and his wife (also a comic book artist) used to play. They created and played toons based on their own trademarked characters and got to be such good friends with some other players that they wanted to use some of those players' characters in their comic books. They contacted NCSoft about it to keep everything on the up and up, and they were told that not only were they not allowed to use CoX-originated characters in their comics, but they were not allowed to play their own characters in CoX even if they could prove ownership of the characters.

He said he understood NCSoft saying no to the use of COX-originated characters, but being told they had to delete their own characters or have them generic'd left such a bad taste in their mouths that the left the game. And that's not rumor, it is straight from the guys mouth, so I'd be curious to know whether Mr. Butcher had a different experience.

I'm 100% sure any famous people, to whichever degree, would prefer no one know when they are online while gaming.

Those who want to be known will no doubt advertise their gaming handles.

This thread cannot lead to anything productive. Does the fact Tom Hanks play CoX validate something for you? Why does the possibility cross your mind? It doesn't cross mine.

Do you simply want to know because "it's cool?"

I think you can rest easy there. It is likely the rich & famous play this and other MMOs. The statistical probability is high enough to where you can be assured you may have, on numerious occasions, played with the rich & famous.

If you're hellbent on finding out with 100% certainty exactly which rich & famous are playing, then you're beyond my level of understanding.

He already answered this question. It'd help if you read the whole thread, if you're going to attempt to jump on somebody for their question.

You act like curiosity is a bad thing.

Oh that would so rock if I teamed with Kevin Smith and didn't know it. He's one of my favorite directors. Wow Bluntman, the hempknight would be a cool character to see.
