So sorry, but it would indeed be considered falsifying information. Winners of this contest have to sign a legal document that verifies they are eligible to participate based on the contest rules.

I know this stinks for several of you who cannot enter but it's seriously not because we don't want to include you. Internet contest law is some of the most wacky, complex and truly maddening stuff I've ever been privy to. Every single country has their own Internet contest laws and often the different states within those countries have their own as well. The hoops they make you jump through just to offer their residents access to your contest is pure insanity. We can't possibly adhere to all of them...it would be so much work to maintain that it makes it not even worth throwing the contest.

All of this being said...we have made significant strides in the past year - working hard with our Legal Department to find a way (ANY way) to allow some of the European Countries to participate in our contests. It finally happened and we were thrilled, but trust me when I tell you that it was all kinds of painful and took forever! Our understanding is that outside of Europe, things get even more tricky.

But I am choosing to have hope that we can make even more progress in this area (don't take this as a promise, people, I'm not on NCsoft's Legal Team!). Just know that your displeasure is not falling on deaf ears and if we could include you easily we most certainly would. We totally feel for you and we're sorry that Internet contest laws are so difficult. Complain to the legal representatives in your state/country, for I swear to you that the difficulty here is not our doing! Why in the world why we throw a contest and not want to let all of our players participate?

Anyway, thanks for listening although I'm afraid I still can't provide a solution for you. Hopefully it explains a thing or two that you might not have known before.

Just came across this in the rules and reg's...

"CANADIAN RESIDENTS NOT FROM QUEBEC! To claim your prize, you must be able to answer the following question correctly:
12 x 10 + 4 = (please provide answer)"

No joke...
Ummm, because I am obviously ignorant on this, can someone tell me what the heck this is all about? Is it legit, an inside joke I don't get, or something so out there theres no real clasification of fun-na-tude being had.

OK, carry on.

Bru: Something about Canadian law says that contests have to involve an element of skill. For most contests where chance or a subjective decision is the deciding factor, they do things like this.

Yep! Cal hit it on the head. No joke at all. One of those crazy Internet contest laws I was talking about...this one from Canada which states that if you're a Canadian outside of Quebec you cannot win an online contest unless you demonstrate an element of skill - which most companies throwing online contests present in the form of a math question.

Again, just re-iterating here how difficult it is for us to throw online contests for every single country (and states within those countries) out there that have their own unique rules like this. It's not that we don't want to offer you our contests - honest - it's just that they make it so difficult for us to include you all!

I've heard this one before. It's actually a law preventing Canadian citizens (outside of Quebec, which has different laws) from winning contests of pure chance. I.e., gambling.

And I think it applies to all contests, not just internet ones. So even Canadian companies who hold like a simple prize drawing have to ask the winners a simple math question to make it a game of "skill" to comply with the law.

Thank you all for the responses.
Chalk this up to the new thing I learn today!
Never heard of that, and to someone who has never seen it, its downright hilarious to see in the middle of contest rules!

Thanks again!
Best of luck

When in doubt, go with Comic Sans!

(sorry, don't know the real font)

To EMPulse,

With all the people here on the forums, I know it must not be easy to find the time to answer a specific question. So I thank you for finding the time to answer mine.

However, I just want to enter the contest for the chance of having my art in the game. I seriously don't care if I get a prize or not... is there anyway for me to enter a submission for the chance of having my work appear in game for free?

The logo's custom.

Final font treatments for the Loyalist propaganda will be some form of sans serif block lettering, but don't worry--font usage will NOT be counted against you if you've already submitted something and gone with a different style of lettering. Mainly, we're looking for clever wording and/or art treatments.

Probably the only chance I'll get to say "First after a redname" but its just cool enough that I got one to reply to a specific question I asked.

I won't be entering this compo as I'm perfectly happy to sit gawping at the lovely images presented (as long as someone posts one: and if you do post, post it in a separate thread... or on DA please! ).

Except Quebec, which I believe covers Montreal. Which is a shame, since a lot of people are less interested in the prizes than in the artwork appearing in game.

I believe that the legal problems stem from the contest. If you are not interested in prizes, I don't think that there is anything preventing you from just sending Paragon Studios your art and specifying that you are not competing in the contest.

Why not create a PO box outside of Quebec and use that address to participate in the contest?

This pretty much sums up my problems with every contest CoH as ever had... Alot of people from Quebec have been gripping/moaning, both on the forums and the CoH Facebook page, about not being elligible, nor being able to participate in anyway, to contests or other similar events...

I've played this game for years, I would love... nay, JUMP on the occasion to leave a permanent mark/imprint on it. So far the closest I've come was reporting an exploit that got removed during the i9 Open Beta.
