Discussion: City of Heroes Declare Your Loyalty 6 Year Anniversary Contest!
Alas, this one's 2D only, I'm afraid. The Loyalist propaganda will be attached to billboards and the Resistance graffiti will be applied to walls--no tv screens.

Well, everyone except Dr. Aeon of course.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
You're making it sound like Tyrant's some kind of dictator, rather than just a misunderstood hero
Like I said about the 3D, I'd like to enter, but ti depends on what ready-made 3D elements I can find that'd be suitable for Praetorians. |
The Resistance doesn't call him 'Tyrant' for nothing.

Is he called Tyrant by the loyal citizens, or just Emperor Cole? Or just Emperor?

Tyrant is the name the resistance, and the Heroes of Earth Prime use.
However, based on the comics and the "Statesman's Pal" arc I imagine that behind closed doors the Preatorian Marcus Cole embraces the Moniker Tyrant.
I mean his closest Council are Marauder, Mother Mayhem, Dominatrix, Anti-Matter. These are not names that Inspire feelings of Good and wholesome.
Emperor Cole.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)
Praetoria is not a democracy, and the people are not 'free'. Are they safe? Yes, for now, but Cole rules unilaterally, and some of his iron-handed decisions are very dictatorial. |
His "psychiatric institution" leaves prisoners as "shells of their former selves...men and women who no longer remembered their families, loved ones, or even their names. All that was left inside these former patients' thoughts were memories of their time in the Psychiatric Hospital, each one more horrible than the last."
His security forces are equally bad: "when someone speaks out against Emperor Cole or Praetorian matters, the dark side of the PPD emerges, and burly, well-armed officers come into your house in the dead of night and take your loved ones away."
Superpowered people "disappear", and their familes "disappear" too if they start asking questions.
The Powers Divison forces people into service, and only 10% of them survive the indoctrination process - and the Powers Division also kills more people than the PPD, Clockwork, Seers and Praetorian Guard combined.
When the actions of Tyrant and his government reach this level, then the only thing separating him from Recluse is Recluse openly embracing what he's doing as evil, and any talk of "moral grayness" or the "common/greater good" is pointless.

But he does so while attempting to keep order on a planet that is, by and large a blasted wasteland. Extreme times calls for extreme measures, can't make an omelette without breaking eggs, etc. etc.
Cole is a tyrant, yes. But in his mind he cannot afford not to be: He doesen't even have to just *believe* that humans left on their own without his guidance will destroy themselves: He has ample proof thereof.

Och rosor i ett sprucket krus

Over the next twenty five years, Emperor Cole did as he promised and more. The advancements accomplished without the threat of war and annihilation were wondrous. The devastated population of the world was replaced in a matter of years by a race of loyal robots that would become the backbone of the working force around the world - always ready to work, always on time, always precise, the Clockwork earned Dr. Raymond Keyes the Nobel Prize and a position in Emperor Cole's advisory council of Praetors. 25 years after being crowned Emperor of Earth, the nuclear wastelands of the world have returned to lush forests and farmland, cities have modernized, and the oceans have been cleansed of their pollutants. The people of the world are clothed, fed and educated, while a workforce of diligent workers allow humans to pursue more joy and happiness in their lives. He has truly created a Utopia on Earth. Ever vigilant of his subjects, the Emperor and his Praetors protect the people from all outward threats, including Cole's newest declared enemy, the breeding ground of villainy known as Primal Earth. Emperor Cole is a savior, but others know there's more to the story that isn't written in the history books. Most citizens of Praetorian Earth respect him or even love him. Some who know the truth fear him, and fewer still dare to stand against the lies. No matter what he is called in the halls of power or history books, no one can stop the hushed whispers in the streets and back alleys of his empire where he is called by another name...Tyrant. |

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
By the way, I think this thread would be a really good place for them to post screenshots or concept art of all the redesigned Praetorian AVs, so people entering the contest can be as accurate as possible with their posters - like how can people draw the Paretorian Guard if they don't know what they look like?

If they have different names for each group, could we then assume that whichever side we take up; the names would change when our character runs into them. IE.....
I'm a loyalist and run into Cole. His name on my screen reads Emporer Cole.
I'm in the resistance and run into Cole. His name now reads Tyrant.
Just a thought. Do not know the practicality of it.
Since presumably your faction will determine what version (as in ally or enemy) of the major NPCs you meet, it should be easy to at least have the "proper" name used in missions. If the major Praetorians can be found out in a zone the name would be the same for everyone unless they've added new tech though.

What about if we supplied a US Shipping address?

I'm normally a very positive person on these forums, but seeing yet another competition I cannot legally enter gets me down.

Same...
Would entering the competition under a family member's Ontario adress be legal? Or would that be concidered falsifying information?

Focus on the major players. I'd love to show you concept for some of these, but it'll have to wait.

And considering Dominatrix's family connections, and Chimera's job, they might be a little put out to be dismissed like that too
But I'm going to focus on the "some of these" part, because that could be interpreted as meaning that only some of those I mentioned are going to feature in GR

I'm sure AntiMatter will be delighted to hear that you think Neuon is a major player, but he isn't

Dominatrix and Chimera aren't put out because they will be the first and only characters to get animated hair.
