Calling All 60 Month Vets
I will always be her older sister, reaching time-based milestones first (able to drink, getting my driver's license, getting the benefits of joining AARP, etc.)
|
Seriously... if the situation were that they kept moving the existing rewards ahead so that they were always out of your reach no matter how long you played, then there would be a very valid reason to be upset.
Storm
Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm ...
I don't have the 60 month badge, nowhere near it.
I'm fine with earning the rewards at the same rate as the people that already have them.
What I want is a guarantee that the game will be around long enough for me to get them too

Same here!

It's not the fact that you can take a travel power at level 6 that intrigues me.
Even if I had this vet reward, I would still take Fly in the 30s. It's the fact that you no longer need to take a prerequisite power in order to select the said travel power. I think that is awesome. It would "completely" change my build. |
The following shows that there are options besides vet rewards or taking dedicated powers:
Real money options:
Mini-booster: Temporary 30 Day Jetpack $5, 30 real days unlimited flight power on all characters on the account.
Super Booster IV: Martial Arts grants Ninja Run, level 4 onward on all characters.
Good Vs Evil in-game pack (or if the account doesn't have it, the full GvE edition): Pocket D Teleport and Jump Jet
30 real days temp powers:
Christmas Event (for candy canes) or Holiday cheer (random): 30 real days Jingle Jet unlimited flight power.
30 minute Temp powers:
Siren's Call: you can buy Flight, Teleport, or Super Leap from the Siren's Call mercenaries if your faction is winning the zone.
Non-consecutive lasting temp powers:
Level 1 onward, park your character in either Firebase Zulu (or other Shadow Shard) or Grandville for a max 30 minute (renewable) Jetpack. Get the Commuter or Pilot day job badges to refuel at any train station or Arachnos flier as well.
Level 1 onward go to Firebase Zulu or Grandville and purchase a Jetpack for 10,000 Inf.
Level 5-9 (50-50 chance at level 10), or with help do the Atlas Park Safeguard or Mayhem mission: Reward is a 2 hour Jetpack. (Can get once per character.)
Level 11-14 (50-50 chance at level 10 or 15), or with help do the Kings Row Safeguard or Mayhem mission: Reward is a 2 hour Jump Jet. (Can get once per character.)
Level 15-19 Villains - Steal a Goldbricker's Rocket Pack: 90 minutes of flight.
Level 20-24 Villains - Sky Raider Flight Pack 60 minutes of flight. (You can flash back to get this multiple times.)
Level 25 onward for both sides: Ouroborus Portal
Introduced with Issue 17:
The second of the new Positron's TFs has a Jet Pack as well.
All these options are available to all players.
As for other temp powers, see this list:

The options are there, you just have to see them.
I can't believe I missed this logical non-choice. Both options, as presented, are the same as pool powers only unlock at level 6.
Triumph: White Succubus: 50 Ill/Emp/PF Snow Globe: 50 Ice/FF/Ice Strobe: 50 PB Shi Otomi: 50 Ninja/Ninjistu/GW Stalker My other characters
Blah blah entitlement reward fair blah blah
The veterans' rewards system is a marketing tool to encourage player retention. It encourages people to keep their accounts active, even when they leave to play another game for a period of time.
If it is an effective tool, then there is no reason for the Marketing staff to cut off rewards at some point in the future, or to change them into purchasable rewards.
If it is not an effective tool at retaining active accounts, then there is no reason to continue adding new rewards, but there is still a reason not to make the rewards purchasable. Doing so would annoy loyal customers, which might lose them money or accounts.
Some of the more generic rewards (respecs, character slots) are already purchasable. Perhaps more will be in the future. If they do so, it will be a business decision, based on cost/benefit analysis. It won't be decided on arbitrary and subjective standards of fairness or entitlement.
Arguments made by players, that Marketing should do this or that because doing so would lose or gain customers, are pointless. Players do not have access to any data that can support those kind of arguments. These kind of arguments are all about the poster's personal preferences, which carry no financial weight.
Try to remember that CoH is a business first, a game second. No money, no game. Fair play, justice, entitlements, etc. only affect business decisions when they actually affect revenue.
I can't believe I missed this logical non-choice. Both options, as presented, are the same as pool powers only unlock at level 6.

For everyone: Removal of prereqs (you can get Fly without Hover) |
For 60+ vets: Can take any of the powers at any level (can get Fly at level 6) |
And for the record, I don't support this idea, just clarifying it for those like myself who misinterpreted.
I was going to say something smart and snarky....but then I saw who made the thread and thought it was enough to begin with.
Also 39 month vet...the 60 vet award does nothing for me so it is all meh.
You acting as if the current 60 month vets would feel cheated. I don't understand that.
|
Heck, yes, I would feel cheated.
Vet rewards are there for those of us that show loyalty to the game. Stripping us of them would be a smack in the face. Why don't you just fess up?
You are not a 60+ month vet and you want what we have, right? Then stay with the game that long...just like we did.
Don't blame us for having the rewards we've earned. Not everything can be gotten through you power leveling, you know.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.
|
It completely changes the sorts of tactics you can employ for certain task forces and can dramatically speed up your run time. That's the sort of thing that gives clear advantages to vets that non-vets are within their right to complain about.
|
Complaining about it may be "within their right" but it is still an unjustified entitlement whine.

I have taken multiple toons to 50 with either Combat Jumping & Hurdle or Ninja Run and that 30 second jump pack is invaluable.

Definitely not a threat. Merely an observation. Whether it's a blessing is a matter of opinion I leave up to the reader.
