Why is Going Rogue Being Doled Out Piecemeal?

Well, the opening topic doesn't really seem to be going anywhere - so we should recycle waste material, and make this a poll thread for 50s who'll use the GR system

Edited: None of my 50s will be going Rogue. I do have plans for an "alternate universe" version of my main MA/Regen, one who let her rage and insanity take control, rather than get focused into something more productive, so she'll be an evil Scrapper starting at level 1 (or 20, whatever). Everyone else is either starting from the ground or is nowhere near 50. I have a level-25ish Bane Spider who'll go heroic if possible, she's the highest level.

GR will be crammed full of content to play through. That'll certainly take some time.

I suppose if someone pre-purchased GR solely for the end-game system, they might be a bit disappointed..

I was at HeroCon. I was the one who asked Brian Clayton about the possibility of an Issue 17 before Going Rogue came out. He told me that if they could get UltraMode and enough other features in our hands before Going Rogue, then they would. And I was the one who reported such on the forums on the Monday after HeroCon.

UltraMode was never promised as a Going Rogue exclusive.

Rubberlad, you have no legs upon which to stand for complaining about UltraMode being a part of Issue 17 being a "bait and switch."

Your memory of events does not stand up to the facts.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

Before Issue 17 was announced, Ultra mode was promised as a major feature of the retail expansion pack, Going Rogue. When Issue 17 was announced, that was no longer the case. So off the retail pack came Ultra Mode and in its place comes the first level of the Incarnate system (with the other 9 levels to come at a late date).
I'm at the office ninja-posting so I can't really delve into looking for this but I could have sworn that when Ultra-Mode was originally packaged with the Going Rogue info, there was a qualifier that said Ultra-Mode would come when it was ready. I think someone along the way even said it might come with a patch before I17 or between I17 and GR. But maybe I'm mis-remembering.

There was - they said it at Hero Con on the same day that ultra mode was offically shown for the first time.

Well, I guess the impossible would be priceless - because it'd be so rare

14 level 50s
10 Blue
4 Red

1 Hero 50 may waver a touch
3 of the redsiders will come partway at least.

Most of my planned Vigilante/Rogues are not at 50.

Just... might I suggest to other users to not have the additional wafer-thin mint, no matter how much the waiter suggests it...

Ooh...

Um. I've lost track. At least 13 (one of each AT/EAT except Corruptors, and that one's close.) Two controllers, two tanks, two defenders... Let's just say "a bunch." Only one planned to switch, either partially or fully, and that's my MA/Regen Stalker.

I'm sure you'll have one blue side who'll want to dip his little toes in the gray water, just to see what it's like

Of the 50s, probably not, actually. Doesn't "fit" them very well. At most, they'd be vigilante - and that's more likely the original (but lower level) version of one of my PBs who lives over on Virtue.

Vigilante status is still dipping your little toes into gray waters

I'm so glad you feel they're entitled to my money 9 months before they actually deliver the whole product.
So, you knew about the Incarnate system when they first announced Going Rogue huh? Not anywhere before the recent announcement did they say anything about getting the full Incarnate system in Going Rogue.

You're complaining about getting content early and you're complaining about getting content later. Seriously, what is the problem? You do know that this is a MMO and content updates are a regular thing? What's the difference in getting all of the content spread out like this or having to wait until later this year for everything.

- Buy in early to get early access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning
'Cause a lot of people have been waiting ages for one or both of those sets and by making them available NOW they get a large number of sales before the expansion is even out.

And I wanted my Pistols NOW!

Full price for the regular version of GR. There's also going to be a 'collectors edition' version that's more expensive, with extra goodies. The collector's edition of GR is the main reason I didn't prepurchase

- Buy in early to get early access to Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning

- Wait until July and get access to four zones, 7 new costume sets, 2 additional powesets (parts of which we've previously seen in-game for NPCs), and level one access to the new incarnate system

- Wait until 4th quarter 2010 to get the remaining 9 levels and the new endgame system and perhaps another high-level zone (but only if we buy GR 3 months earlier).

And in the meanwhile, Ultra mode which was flagged for retail is now free. And in its place comes an awful lot of last minute bait and switch improvements.

My question is: why? Why not just package it together in one retail expansion and let players enjoy? The way its all piecemealed out now, players might as well wait until 4th quarter to get Going Rogue and enjoy it all in one go rather then buying in now and waiting 9 months to get the full product?

This just seems like a really weird business model somehow... What's the logic behind it again?
No matter how much we may like NcSoft or Paragon this is a business, and their here to make money( this does not make them evil), additionally more revenue now means they may be able to fit more stuff in sooner rather than latter.

Also keep in mind this is a work in progress, they could wait until they've finished everything, but would have to wait until 4th Q to get everything. If I had to guess, GR is in in-house beta right now or close to it, and as soon as the next issue goes live, it will go in closed beta with them maybe trying to fit a few more things, In terms of the 4th Q content, I'd bet their beyond the planning stages, and maybe a 1/3 of the work that needs to be done for it at this point, if that far.
