Issue 19: Incarnates

Or maybe something like the new zone-event-spawning-a-GM-spawning-an-instance style that Lord Winter's realm introduced to the game?

I'd already suggested something like thtát as a revamped normal zone event - like for the Steel Canyon fires, the Hellions are using the fires as part of a ritual to summon a fire demon - you'd defeat a set number of arsonists, which would unlock an instance of the burning building - inside you'd havea time limit to destroy altars/pentagrams/glyphs that they'd set up - once you'd done that, a GM fire demon would spawn, which you'd also have to take down within a time limit.

Or the Troll rave in Skyway City - defeat the ravers outside to spawn an instance of the rave warehouse - inside, defeat Supatrolls and destroy drug stashes to spawn a huge, mutated Supatroll GM.

Or a new one in Brickstown - an Arachnos Flyer would spawn and drop Arachnos soldiers into the Zig - once you'd defeated enough of them, an instance of the Zig interior would spawn - inside, you'd have to defeat various generic Villains like the ones we meet in the Safeguard missions, and then back outside, we'd have to take down the Flyer.

I doubt players will be forced to do anything other than XP to earn new levels. However, he might mean new costumes (ie ITF Roman gear) or even something akin to WoW's morphing where you must complete content to reach new content and the zones change as you do. That would be interesting and would definitely liven things up a bit.

This game has been built and trying to please both casual and hardcore alike. I doubt casual players will be forced to plow through content unless they can do it at their own pace. If the zone events are tied to Incarnate levels I hope it can all be accomplished by both types of players.

But why call them Incarnate levels if they're just earned in exactly the same way as normal levels? Might as well just announce an increase in the level cap.

And I like those ideas GG - I've always wanted more dynamic content outdoors, so that player-characters can be more like the heroes/villains in comics, responding to dynamic events, rather than just pre-planning which static content you're going to churn through each evening.

Hi. I'll be one of those folks really ticked off if forced team content is the only way to advance the incarnate levels.

Be well, people of CoH.

But it could also cause some problems - like you get a TF invite, and you have to turn it down because you need to do the Troll rave event to get a certain Incarnate item, so you're just hanging out in SKyway until it starts

If it is, it probably wouldn't need a full team - maybe like just 3 or 4 players.

Indeed. That would be a massive fail.

I don't think it likely - this is still a very casual MMO at heart. I think (good) teams will probably be able to advance faster in Incarnate levels than soloers though - that wouldn't be any different to how things are with normal levels - and it still wouldn't change the fact I still prefer playing this game in duos (admittedly I do team for TFs/GMs/raids when I feel like it).

And I suspect Incarnate levels will still be totally optional, just like the invention system and the mission architect are pretty much optional - if you don't like the system, just keep playing the game the way you always have. In fact I wouldn't be shocked if the rewards from the Incarnate system were really only helpful/needed for the content that you do to gain Incarnate rewards.

Wow, I'm entirely the opposite. If it's not something you need to get with a team in a Task Force-like manner then they might as well just give me the incarnate levels right off the bat.

I thought this exact thing when it was announced. I know there is going to be something that will have people wanting to stay true. This just might do it.

Edit: Well if lore serves me correctly, didnt Statesman and LR go to the well together? Although they did not have powers, they were still in a "team."

I dont like being forced to team, but if needed ill do it.

Same here...or again maybe they will make it like the Patron Mishes. EASILY possible to solo but just down right fun/efficient with a team.

That's not really an option for me. Part of the game is tweaking my main and namesake to the highest performance levels I can given the limitations of claws and SR.

The Incarnate system will obviously be used to increase existing power levels. In order for me to continue enjoying my main character, I must have more power.

Incarnate content will take place exclusively in Praetoria, and will also include new zone events

Curious abut the zone events part of this. Would participation in Incarnate zone events be a necessity in order to advance to the next Incarnate level, or is it something that allows Incarnate players to feel powerful i.e. Superman taking on a 50ft tall giant robot single handedly.

Oh same here - I like my ridiculously purpled-up builds as much as the next man (or woman, or alien, or cyborg, etc.).

Though I'm probably not as anti-teaming/pro-soloing as you are, as my preferred/usual playstyle is duoing, I'll obviously be happy if every L50 can participate in the Incarnates system solo if they want because it will mean that duos can fully participate too, rather than always needing a team of 8 players (something that's not always possible on the low-pop EU servers).

I don't think the Devs will let us down - too many people get driven out of other MMOs at top level because the playstyle completely changes from what they've enjoyed while levelling (whether to PvP or large scale PvE raiding) - but I think our Devs are more mindful of player retention and replayability than most.

"Incarnate content will take place exclusively in Praetoria, and will also include new zone events"

So, does that mean that the Incarnate lore will maybe be somehow tied into the Praetorian lore?
Like does Tyrant still have access to the Well of the Furies in his world? Was that why he murdered Stefan Richter? Could it be linked to his ability to tame the Hamidon?

Oh I'd missed that it's Praetoria only. So the endgame high-end content will be happening in the four zones covering L1-20? I hope these new zone events will either be very common or that there will be something else in those zones for L50s to do while waiting for them.

Btw, Well of the Furries? The well has catgirls in it? Or was that just a Freudian slip on your part? Maybe Tyrant does still have access to the Well of the Furies in his world - question is, does he really want others having access to it?

Because if you miss that one, there will never be another one, ever, because they're not regular things.

yeah i play at like 2-5 am and no one is on, and I'm not changing servers and I really like to play alone anyway, so I hope all this new stuff is available to people who just like to solo too. The game always has been solo friendly. I do think things that are group, should reward with group oriented rewards so like the roman costume pieces can be achieve by solo or late nighters like me who have never seen the inside of that mission. i meani quit WoW and many other mmos because end-game was big raids or groups etc. I DO WISH those costume pieces were tied to solo content. Again group stuff should be group rewards. It makes more sense that way. I have 14 level 50s and I can't even get the mission done once. I don't play on weekends and weeknights I am working right now.. but I will be playing at about 2:30 am .. alone, as always, but I enjoy it.

What server are you on? I can help you get those Roman costume parts.

triumph. I want them on a couple characters though. I don't start playing until about 2-2:30 am

odd my reputation was fine, now it's -98, like a person with forum admin powers did it cause no way that many people.. That is so rude. I don't even cause trouble on here.

An admin wouldn't do that
Just ignore rep - it's silly

Is that 02:30 East or West coast?

I'm not quite sure how the rep system works, but I think someone with a lot fo rep could probably change it that fast.

Anyway, I'm not that sleepy right now, so I'll wait up until you're on, and we can see if maybe there are enough other people around to try and form an ITF.
