Why is it harder to revamp a zone than to make a new one?
Also, War Witch didn't actually say "we hate revamps almost as much as we hate Villains" - all she said was that they prefer to make new zones, but that old zones would get looked at if they fit the content they were working on.

On the note of Cimerora, I still think that it's going to be getting quite a bit put into it at some point. If all they wanted was to make a new TF and two contacts, then choosing ancient Rome seems a tad random. There's gotta be a reason for them choosing it, and I'm guessing that a zone with that much art poured into it is going to get some substance.

I'm guessin' it'll have something to do with that building on a hill you can see through the zone boundary....

The Abrams is one of the most effective war machines on the planet. - R. Lee Ermy.
Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.
I'm pretty sure that's the Oracle's Island. The one you sail to in mission one of the ITF.

I've never run an ITF.

I personally think that they don't need to "revamp" old zones to make them more interesting, they can just ADD MORE STUFF TO DO on top of what's already there. Because that's what people really want in the end, more variety. So just put more stuff in there on top of what's already there. No need to remake the wheel, just give it shiny new rims and people will go "oooOOOooooo".
Except Boomtown. That whole zone is a waste... DO something with it... PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE????
Reichsman was originally captured and kept in suspended animation in the Freedom Phalanx's main base in Boomtown, which was then destroyed/buried in the first Rikti invasion.
Reichsman's new base is described as being under Boomtown during the BTF, and it might even be built from the ruins of his former prison.
The 5th Column vs Council fights feature the 5th Column mocking the Council and their base on Striga Isle, saying their base is in the heart of Paragon City itself.
I think the chances of a Boomtown revamp as part of the evolving 5th Column storyline are pretty high.

I am pretty sure it is mostly vets posting on this thread so here is the opinion (just mine of course) of someone who has only been playing 10 months not 50. (I have one 50 and about 15 alts most in the 20s)
I never go to Boomtown. Ever.
I always do the the Faultline story arc. Becasue it is a great story that ties together all kinds of plots. Sure, I have done it a dozen times. When I have a toon that out levels it I sometimes even Ouroboros some of the choice bits.
I will probably do the same with RWZ. I only have one toon who has done it, but I thought it was very well done.
The Hollows I do if it fits the character concept (magic based) but mainly because the ending of the arc is so hard to complete without ghosting and TPing and cannot be done solo. I would have done it more often if my solo toons could have saved Sam Wincott.
Dark Astoria and Perez are both cool looking and creepy and beg for some horror style content that ties into the fiction. I would do them every time if the story was there. It just isn't there.
Striga is pretty cool. I do those stories regularly. I would hope that the war between the 5th column and the Council would spread there. Be nice to see some 5th column guys losing on the council's home ground.
New zones vs revamps? Both of course!
Seriously Boomtown for a Faultline RWZ remake.
Dark Astoria and Perez Park for some storyarcs with maybe a Dark Watcher TF in Dark Astoria.
New Zones - Space Station, Moonbase, Underwater City, Micronization, Rikti Homeworld, Actual Time Travel, Atlantis, Actual Story arcs in paralell worlds (who wouldn't want an arc to help overthrow the council empire world?)
Here's a thought on revamping/adding content to old zones.
Offer a contest in MA for the best story arcs based on Zone, Villian Group, Theme, whatever with the understanding that all content is owned exclusivly by Paragon Studios.
The best arcs voted on by players get put in the game and the winners get an extra(s) MA slot a prize and maybe an in game reference via a radio mission or maybe even as contact.
It would free the devs up to do new zones and basically just reveiw the content created by players to make sure it fits continuity. May as well use the mod community to fix holes in the game.

I suspect the plan was to revamp Boomtown and use it to bring back the 5th Column. There were probably plans for 5 arcs involving the Council, Arachnos, and the 5th. Then for the anniversary, we were going to get Reichsman back, to cap it off.
However, what happened is that the devs got busy with other things, they dropped plans for the revamp, and merely brought back Reichsman in the TF/SF.
That's my guess as to what happened behind the scenes, and I believe the revamp of Boomtown has been entirely shelved.
Furthermore, my belief is that the devs aren't kidding when they say they have zero plans for revamps at this point.
For whatever reason, the devs seem to be soured on the notion of revamps. Maybe something happened during the Faultline revamp - a lot of bickering or whatever - and now they just don't want to do those any more.
Thank god they are making new zones.

If they took the time to fix them, they'd be actually enjoyable to go through, rather than a drag.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

That being the case, they prefer to create new content than re-hash old stuff.

I would agree with you, EXCEPT ... wasn't the Boomtown revamp supposed to have happened years ago? Right after Faultline?

First, they didn't say they have zero plans for revamps - they said they they'd rather concentrate on new zone, but that older zones would get looked at if they tied in with the new content.
Second, war Witch said at Pax that she'd love to go through all the old hazard zone sand make them better.
The devs don't hate revamps, and they haven't said they'll never do them - new zones have priority, that's all.

Ok, here's my 2 cents for what it's worth. I know the devs view is "NEW SHINY" And yeah, that works to a point. However one previous poster here made what I think is the best comment about Blueside contacts being old, lame, annoying, and tedious.
Here's my example. I ALMOST NEVER play original CoH content. And by original I mean pre-original hollows. So...all that 1-50 content in all the main zones such as KR, Skyway, Steel, Talos, IP, FF, Bricks, etc....I almost NEVER play. Especially now that I can just go get the badge mishes via Ouroboros.
My usual leveling arc is Atlas Park from 1-5, KR radios from 5-8, Hollows from 8-15, Fautline from 15-23, Striga from 23-28, Croatoa from 28-33ish, Then if I don't hit 35 in Croatoa, I can do radios/TF's until 35 and then it's RWZ/TF's from 35-40, and then PI/RWZ/TF's from 40-50. It's so easy, and even more practical really, to COMPLETELY AVOID all the old blueside content and just play the newer content! Not to mention by sticking to the "hazard zones" (hollows, faultline, striga, croatoa, rwz) you're pretty much guaranteed that mishes aren't going to send you all over the place, especially for stupid errand and hunt mishes.
So here's my suggestion, and I hope some devs read this.
PLEASE tweak all the old blueside contacts, so that their story arcs are more interesting, and that they aren't always sending you all over the place, unless it fits the story. (Like say a Founders Falls contact sending you to Boomtown for some reason. If it fits the story, great! If not...kinda annoying). Also, please have them give their phone number sooner, especially in the upper levels of the game (30+)
REVAMP Boomtown! There's a ton of things you could do with it, and more than ANY other dead zone blueside I think a Boomtown revamp makes sense!
Add new contacts to Eden where you can do a story arc about the Hamidon. Give a reason to go to Eden other than the fact it's the entrace to the Hive.
Also a Story Arc in DA would be interesting as well...I don't think that zone really need a "revamp" persay...just a good reason to go there!
