I think there was some sort of concern about there being so many teenage boys among the player population having the equivalent of female slaves.
I'm not particularly worried about it. Adolescent behavior is going to be adolescent behavior no matter what. But that was the concent I read when this came up awhile back.

Anyways there are valid concerns about players controlling females, as stated above. I, for one, wouldn't want to see any "pimp" MMs.
In addition, there are very few female enemy types too (Carnies, Knives of Artermis, and a few AVs are the limit). Think about it and the reason for that applies as well.

Actually I don't because this is a patently stupid idea, but the point is that you can do stupid stuff with everyone, like, say, make an S&M-themed villainess and make all her henchmen gimps. But the devs would never allow something like that.
A bigger problem with this idea is that right now there's no way to determine /what/ kind of model each minion you summon gets.
It's most visible with Thugs, where the basic punk henchmen have several different possible skin colors, hairstyles and faces, which can get bloody irritating if you've actually attached names to each of them, and I'd rather not suddenly have to explain RPwise how come Jimmy and Dave both fill out those sports bras so well...
That said, I'd /love/ it if we had the ability or option to specify the minion model we summon somehow.

Its a macho thing I guess or whatever they have to protect the helpless little female? Umm my 45 level Thugs/DM MM doesn't need anyone to protect her.. she is usually too busy kicking butt. I find it very strange since they (THE DEVS) have no issue with a villainess named Dominatrix and if you've ever done any base building the ONLY bed available has TIE DOWN STRAPS.

Does the term sex discrimination ring a bell? I'm not asking you to have them dressed like the Fembots from Austin Powers... If they are Merc.. have them in Cammies. Thugs.. dressed in Street clothes like their male counterparts. Zombies.. zombies are zombies. Ninja.. the same robe and pajama pants as their male counterparts. And Bots.. Okay lets just leave bots neutral .. they are machines and have no sexual orientation at all. I have seen CHARACTERS running around in leather tops and g-string bikinis but we still have no female minions... okay done ranting.. now FIX IT! lol

Eh. The trick is that the devs need to be rather generic with pets, but specific enough to work. What if there were female minions in the thugs pool? Well, your minion named 'Bill' could be a chick or dude. Not game-breaking, but weird. (And yes, I'm well aware that thugs can change in ethnicity)
If they did all female thugs, it might seem oddly specific to something that broadly in the source material leans toward male stooges.
Zombies? What's saying your lich isn't female? The rest could have female variations, but again with the gender switching thing.
Ninjas? Typically and historically much more male. Same with mercs.
This leaves bots and possibly demons, which seem to be both 'its' rather than bearing any specific gender.
IF they let us customize minions, even if only by choosing from a pool and possibly painting them, I could see some ladies. Until then, the present structure most broadly fits most concepts/mechanics.

While I understand your point of view, all it takes is one idiot to make his/her henchmen into preteen female sex slaves to get the self righteous zealots in America demanding legal action against NCSoft.
Now I know you've been around here long enough to know we have plenty of both in this game. Remember the big blow up on the forums a while back because the devs posted their support for an event sponsored by part of the gay community? And how about the bickering that always crops up whenever someone complains when an ERPer is making a scene somewhere public ingame.

...Does anyone have any records of the devs actually SAYING that the reason there's no female minions is because of sex slaves? Because what I've heard the devs actually say is that there's just no MM customizability, and when there IS (this isn't an If, it's a When, but right now they've made very little progress due to GR so this When might not be for many years), we'll have a great deal of control over what our pets look like, presumably including gender.

I know what you mean Forbin but those same teenage boys are able to create female heroes and slide the chest bar as far to the right as it will go. I have seen some of those characters and it makes my back ache just looking at them. They can have them parade aroud Paragon City fighting crime in a string bikini? or in any number of revealing outfits.. DEEP V and even the Leather top come to mind. I don't hear any public outcry over that .. if fact those outfits probably got added due to Player comments on Jay's thread.
It just seems to me with Power Customization sort of a priority how difficult would it be to give an MM the option during the creation process of Male or Female Minions? After that they get whatever costume the Devs come up with and right or wrong unless they are doing thing with their female minions under the Statue of Atlas, in which case I'd be the first to submit a report, how can they stop anyone from doing whatever they want when they are alone in their Sg base or where ever? Who is to say there aren't gay males playing the game that simulate heaven only knows what with their male minons behind SG closed doors? They can't say it isn't possible.. there are female characters in game including NPCs... Knives of Artemus, Carnies, Crey, and even some Nemesis Automatons. I'm not a radical woman's libber but isn't that sending the message that its perfectly okay to BEAT on woman but we can't allow them to serve as minons.. someone might be offended. What I am is a 46 year old female who'd just like to have a gang of other females behind me welding weapons as we mow down whatever stands between us and what we want! LOL
You're right though probably never see it because of potential law suits.. but I got another chance to rant about it. I was very vocal about it years ago when they told us NO! Good hearing from you again :-D

Sure it's possible that bad media could actually backfire on the protesters and spark a wave of new subscribers to the game but is it worth taking that risk?
And for the record I personally want as much customization as possible in the game. I just can't dismiss the explanation we were given as to why we won't get female minions as being silly. Sadly it makes sense.
I thought this was talked about during Hero-Con?! or did I hear them wrong?
