For all these years, I only sent one PM to one dev. It was a long time ago, I asked BaB if there would be weapon customization. Of coz, I never got any response. I made the energy aura sticky thread in the brute forum some time ago, I didn't even bother PM Castle, as I know, he probably doesn't want to say a thing either.
My guess is that the new animation people are completely broken in now and this is his way of letting them take on all the animation bugs while he focuses on things like GR.
The devs have all been very quiet lately, but I see that as a good thing. Every time the devs seem absent like this it ends up being because they were all working on something very big like the invention system or power customization.

I have no idea if the animation system in CoH bears any resemblance to any other MMO (or video game, or human technological construction) but I remember at one point after discussing a particularly complex issue involving state bits that I asked BaB how he kept track of the particular behaviors of the different types of bits and he said he mostly kept track in his own head.

I do hope this isn't the start of less informal relationship with the Devs... community reps are all well and good, but having Devs that talked on our forums was one of the many things that made this game great.

It doesn't really bug me that BABs is turning off PMs. I don't think in general that there should be that many instances where people would need to contact him personally and privately. Even my own PM to him probably would've fit fine in the animation bug thread.
As long as BABs still drops in occasionally to let us know he loves us, the PM thing is pretty minimal.
Though even if he and the other devs are a bit more quiet on the forums for a while, I'm sure it's because they're working on GR.

well here are the possibilities that I see,
1. BABs said something in a PM that got out and caused him trouble at work,he "leaked".
2. someone else did #1 and BABs wants to keep himself from doing the same.
3. someone sent a very bad PM to BABs and really flamed him
4. he is going to be busy with GR
5. he is leaving to game to go elsewhere and this is a preemptive shutdown
6.there is a new policy at work that devs must get approval for all postings(pre-screened)
7.BABs is getting burned out.
8. something is "wrong" at his home,family illiness,etc
9.BABS is going back to school and needs the time for studies
