Alright, time for a sleepy time story from the crazy old character on the porch rocker wavin' cane and caring more and less about people are listening or not.

So, CoH is going to come out.
Oh, goodie, I says. Long alt-oholic in RPGs including an unmentionable competition. I'm going to be able to make those superheroes/villains in a computer game finally. Great!
I go buy the game knowing full well that my machine isn't powerful enough to run it. But I have the book, so while I'm saving money to buy the parts to build a new computer to play CoH on (my old one had the squirrels in the little tread mill thing and the possum with a piece of stone slab that he would chisel output onto and then push out a slot in the side of the computer.) I can't play, but I have the powers lists and I start designing characters to build in the game.
Finally the new computer is assembled and I install CoH. Oh, wondrous I1 costume designer - how greatly you have been improved! But still even so, I create my first character - a villain from a Champions RPG that I had played ...oh, drats... I forgot I wasn't going to bring that up, you kids, just ignore that...bah! And I leap down the street of the CoH tutorial bounding off the tops of cars and across the top of the bus stop! Oh, yeah, that was a spines/regen scrapper! Yeah, lots of fun.
Well that character is level 41 or something now. Just played it last week.
Then I made another character and two on every other server by the end of the first week.
And pretty soon it was making more characters as I had ideas to make them and duplicating some characters that I thought were cool or permutations there of across the various servers. So many power sets and archetypes to explore! So little character slot space!
I'm pretty sure I had my first 50 before CoV came out, I know I had pretty much all my slots full by the time it was released! Thankfully, there were extra slots on every server! So I had to try to maintain a bit, but you know, it was, at least, two villains per server once CoV was released. Oh, and that first character I had made in CoH was a villain, so I made a villain version of that character on another server...or 2..or was it 4..at any rate...my first hero and first villain were essential the same character portrayed with different power sets.
Oh, that first 50 was a Katana/super-reflexes scrapper. It was one of the first 22 characters I made that first week I played CoH. Just played it last weekend.
My next 50 was an ice/empathy controller - that wasn't made until the 3 or 4th year of the game. Whew, That was a long time ago it seems like sometimes...oh yeah...alt-oholism....
So I jumps around some more and I have a 50 energy/energy blaster. Probably haven't played in about 2 weeks. Probably haven't taken on a real mission for quite a while, but working on another blaster on that server at this point that is in the lower 40's - working on getting the weapons munitions with it.
Oh, and then back to finally dinging up another of those first 22 heroes that I made to level 50 - a empathy/electric defender.
Still working on that first villain - level 46 at this point. Yeah, that was my first character to get stuck with the out-of-sync bug that pretty much kept it out of play for over a year. Kind of took the whole momentum about getting a villain 50 out of the old sails (some people must hate me bringing up the true horror that was the OOS bug).
And I bounce around characters/servers/sides all the time even to this day - I think I only logged into like 6-10 characters today.
If I can't find a team, I'll jump on. If I'm just in to trade and someone wants to team and if I'm not doing something I really think is important or time consuming afk-type stuff at the time, then I'll join up for a bit most of the time - at least to check out what is going on or to help out.
Sometimes it's a matter of what I feel like playing a certain day. Sometimes it is a matter of playing a character that will help out my sg mates. Sometime it is about switching up characters to round out a team one way or another.
It's really about enjoying being a superhero, figuring out how to use different powers, and figuring out how my powers can be used best on a team that is completely different from any other team that I have been on before - even if I have to intentionally invite certain characters to have it occur that way.
I PuG a lot. Even if it is a sg group, most of the party are pick up, so it's a PuG. Tonight was one of the few nights outside of when I used to team up with the RO that one of my characters has been on a team of 3 or more character that were only from the same sg.
Yeah, it's been a wild ride. Vet rewards opened up another slot recently. That was cool. Filled it.
So that's 139 characters with combined total 2697 levels

27 scrappers - 1 fifty
19 controllers - 1 fifty
16 defenders - 1 fifty
14 tanks - highest 31 (I think)
17 blasters - 1 fifty
11 masterminds - highest 23 (I think)
7 dominators - highest 46
7 corruptors - highest 40
5 stalkers - highest 19 (I think)
11 brutes - highest 23 (I think)
3 Pbs - highest 22
2 WS - highest 27

champion - 13 chars, 282 levels
freedom - 14 chars, 381 levels
guardian - 12 chars, 177 levels
infinity - 13 chars, 249 levels
justice - 13 chars, 283 levels
liberty - 12 chars, 155 levels
pinnacle - 12 chars, 161 levels
protector - 12 chars, 166 levels
triumph - 12 chars, 246 levels
victory - 12 chars, 200 levels
virtue - 14 chars, 397 levels

Oh, some how the 4 or 5 slots for $20 is still too much for me to go for, but I should be glad they aren't cheaper. I would have bought some more now for sure.
I guess I'll have to make due with 139 characters.
Whatever am I going to do?

Oh, yeah, I forgot...have to figure out which one to play next!?
Yippee!

My level 50's... hmmm, well I can share a little about them. More are on the way, but not... quite there yet:

Lady Arete
(Fire/fire/fire Blaster)
First made her on US on trial, took a break then got back (she was a fire/ice then). But the backstory I made to her made me come back to the EU server(s).
There she was created again and after hitting the lvl 50 I was able to do more roleplay with her.
She is my primary badgehunter so... I try not letting her collect too much dust (damn those dayjobs). She has been slotted with plenty of goodness and well through her I did find out that im a Blapper at heart. Love big groups and plenty of them.

Cyrene (Emp/Sonic/mental Defender)
I did want to have an emp, this because I like being ranged either as one that can heal or blast the enemy to smitherines in any online game.
She is also my main RP char (LA is used too, but not as much as Cyrene). At some point my friend in the rp group I wanted to join was asking me, what char do you want to have in there. I had to think upon it, for I had two too chose from. A stormy defender and Cyrene. I chose Cyrene and I do not regret that. This character did get to grow in a group, as she progressed in levels. I even made her speak with a certain accent. And strangely I've become very attached to her so... story wise she has gotten more powers. She is also to be found as a Sonic/plant Troller and a spoof char I made after a big forum rp with Gun/mental Blaster. When Pain domination come... I did create her as a preatorean/alternate/clone -insert the proper word on the Red side. Albeit with a new name. In short I love my chars concept.

Amardin (Bots/Shield/Scirocco as patron Mastermind)
I did want to try having a villain, so I decided to make a robot. Her concept has become something like in the Wizard of oz. The tinman that wanted a heart. This Robot wants to become more human and she'll steal and do what is neccessary to get it. As her moral compass is sorta gone. What will happen in GR I do not know.
I like her concept, but not as much as my above mentioned chars. This is most likely due to the fact that I chose shield as secondary. I might have gotten more fun with the gadgets (or what it was called), and that thought/belief came laaate gamewise. The result have been that playing her sometimes leaves a bitter taste. I did however want a level 50 villain, she is it... and my badgecollector on the Red side so.. oh well.
I might just make another char and play her more as Amardin, who knows?

My First 50 was Taxibot Sara2.0 An ILL/EMP Controller with a dual build using Fire on one build and Cold on the other as Epics. She's a Task Force Commander, Superior Invisibility and Recall Friend make finding a TF very easy, and has more than 400 badges (I don't have all the time travels or crafting badges.... haven't gotten to the Time Travels yet and I prefer have the rather large amount of influence I have accumulated to spending it buying a pile of recipes and salvage I don't need just to get another badge). Malta absolutely hate her since I can solo them and stealth in Confusing the Sappers and Gunslingers and then unleash my Phantom Army and Phatasm to help devastate the rest. I am STILL trying to find that one Pretorean AV I missed for Portal Jockey but I will figure out out eventually. LOL

In addition as a Taxibot on the Virtue Server she can usually be found hanging around Steel Canyon on Friday nights offering teleport to ICON, the Green Line, Yellow Line, Wentworths, or anywhere else in the zone. Along with the other Taxis we frequently form teams to battle fires in the zone (she has all three badges for that) and have helped countless heroes get badges needed for Rikti and Zombie Invasions. Hey over the Halloween Event we formed teams and took out Eochia 10 times in one night.

She is the Taxibot Base Designer/Archetect and has made several improvements including upgrading the plot and putting in the HUGE Teleport chamber than allows 9 telepoters in one room. A good many of the Merits she earns doing Task Forces have been converted to tier three Inspirartions which are available to all members in any of the 8 INSP Collactors at the base. And she is now building IO enhancements also in base for everyones use.

She may have reach the highest level available but she is far from retired and when she isn't on line she is working on one day job badge after another to gain accolade powers. In addition to another 18 50s I have managed to produce she now has a baby sister in the Taxibots.. Taxibot Tandar who is Plant/Rad Controller working toward level 41 and already has Task Force Commander behind her. Yeah I have Altitis but I do manage to get characters to the top on a regular basis and have fun along the way,

50 Heroes:

Biowraith (Dark/Dark/Dark Defender) - this was my very first character. Created during the last couple weeks of beta, recreated at launch, then rerolled a couple times (around level 25 each time) to re-tune as respecs weren't out yet. Being my first character he probably took the longest to get to 50, both in hours played and subscription time elapsed. Starting out when Dark Miasma was actually a bit of a gimp powerset (and enduring kicks from teams for not being empath, which thankfully hasn't happened to me in years now), finally hitting 50 shortly before Tar Patch got its -res. Concept was a scientist whose experiments with negative energy caused an accident that gave him his powers but left him barely human, with a very basic "costume" that basically makes him a black silhouette (which personally I think looks quite effective when running all the Dark powers, though not so much without them).

Mr Smith (Ill/Kin/Psi Controller) - my second character. Basically a mage, though not so much of the robes and pointy hat kind. Was going to be a Kin Defender originally, with another alt being a Ill/Storm, but then I decided to make the alt a Storm/Elec defender and still wanted to have an Illusion char, so Smith became the Ill/Kin. He's probably my most powerful character overall, being able to both supercharge a team and also solo most situations with little risk to himself.

Lizardo (Rad/Earth/Stone Controller) - relatively recent character, created after battling Operative Lizardo in a paper mission immediately followed by Operative Ricardo; I'm easily amused, often by stupid things, so the idea of Ricardo Lizardo amused me... especially after googling Lizardo and finding some guy called Ricardo Ricardo Lizardo out there. A mutant abandoned by his parents and raised by a pack of lizards, who's now fighting crime for some reason. I enjoy his sheer volume of enemy-neutering powers.

Shadowripper (Spines/Dark/Dark Scrapper) - made to be an aoe machine with as many procced aoes as I can get. Visual aim was to be this ball of darkness with spines flying out of it. A bit cookie cutter/fotm (at the time anyway), and I'm not that satisfied with his name. Doesn't help that I get bored quickly by farming. So he doesn't get played much anymore.

Xanthaiti (Ice/Storm/Ice Controller) - decided I wanted a /Storm controller after all, and went with Ice for easy theme. He does pretty well, but I want to IO him out a bunch to take care of endurance issues and improve his ranged defense so Hurricane-herding is even safer for him. Theme is that he's an avatar of a god of an icy realm here to exact vengeance against the Circle of Thorns after one of their number tried to tap into said god's power. Kinda weak reasoning as to why he's running around fighting crime in general is that the gratitude and adoration of civilians towards heroes works similarly to worship, thus empowering the avatar (who is otherwise comparitively weak outside his home realm).

50 Villains:

Roxxor (SS/Inv/Mu Brute) - The Freaklympics inspired me to make a Freakshow character, which ended up being Roxxor - my first villain. Story has him as ex-Freakshow after a spell in the Zig left him feeling that the Freakshow's shennanigans were holding him back. Essentially retains their brutality but not their quirky sense of fun. Enjoyed smacking stuff around with SS, though felt he was a little squishier than I wanted, but that's changed since IOs have let me buff him up a bunch.

Lord Skull (Dark/Kin/Shark Corruptor) - tongue-in-cheek character (well, quite a lot of mine are) made in response to all the darkity-darks that were created when CoV launched. Basic idea was to take all the skull options available in the costume creator and slap them on one character. Turned out to be quite fun to play too, and ended up being my first 50 villain after Roxxor stalled around 45. Adding ranged defense via IOs has made him more fun to solo, too.

Harry Dread (Necro/Dark/Soul Mastermind) - give me an option to make a necromancer in a game, and I will. Name is a shameless rip-off. Quite powerful and I enjoy playing him, probably the most of my various MMs.

Fortunata Atropos (Fortunata/Soul) - built primarily for ranged damage and buffs, though still some control in there too. Would have preferred to have been called simply "Atropos" for a more iconic name, but obviously that was already taken. Maybe my most powerful villain, though there's a lot of competition for that title.

Operative Clem (Bane/Scorp) - the name derives from an example character in the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay rulebook (whatever edition it was at when I still played years ago) called Clem Shirestock. The name just struck me as such an unimposing name for a potential fantasy hero that I've been mildly amused to use it for characters in games since then - though usually just the Clem part. Themed as a slightly goofier version of Arbiter Sands.

Leafmaster (Plant/Thorn/Shark Dominator) - in-joke name from a brief spell on an rp-server in WoW which turned into a fairly fun character due to Plant Control's general effectiveness and entertainment value.

Mechasusan (Bots/FF/Scorp MM) - a robotics genius who decided the standard 9-5 job wasn't for her so built a suit of power armour and took her small legion of robots out for a more "fun" career in crime. One of my most durable characters, but also quite boring to play.

Pinchy (Crab/Shark) - my first VEAT and probably the character I have the most fun playing. Modelled to max height, bulk sliders high (though not quite max), with the huge model as a base, he's a hulking juggernaut of destruction. When I first hit 24 and specced into Crab I was cackling with glee the rest of the day as he unleashed volley after volley of AoE while shrugging off attacks that'd kill my squishier AoE machines. Glee which has not faded since getting him to 50.

And that's the lot.

Despite playing since launch, I only have 3 50s. I do, however, have a ton of alts, remade all my villain characters when they increased the number of character slots per account (my husband and I got rid of our second accounts then), and I really just haven't played as much as I used to between getting married and having a baby in the last few years. Even worse, I plan on getting rid of at least one of them with a second version of the character with a powerset I think makes more sense.

Ravenbane - DM/SR/Dark Scrapper. My vampire heroine who's paired with my husbands vampire hero that's DM/Regen/Dark. We wrote a detailed mythos for their type of vampirism and everything. We got them to 50 back in March 2005, long before Willpower came on the scene. WP is a much more fitting set for them, so there are secondary versions of them that are currently level 36 that we'll be replacing the 50s with eventually.

Galacto Girl - Energy/Energy/Force Blaster. My spunky teenage sidekick to my husband's Invuln/Energy/Energy tanker. GG was orphaned in the Rikti war and was adopted by Captain Galacto when a mishap caused her to gain a variation of his powers. Her powersets are absolutely perfect and she isn't going anywhere!

Psycharisma - Kin/Psy/Psy Defender. She is a powerful telekinetic/telepath/supergenius whose mutation arose from her hippie parents' "mind expanding" experimentation prior to her conception. I've always known Force Field was truly a more fitting primary for her, but it didn't interest me at ALL for the longest time. I've now got a baby FF/Psy version of her waiting to be levelled. I LOVE Kinetics and I think I'm going to make another character to play it again to its fullest (and use Kin instead of a travel power), but I don't know what to do with it yet.

Honorable mentions:
Tephra Fire - Fire/Stone/Pyre Tanker. Tephra is an avatar of the Hawaiian volcano goddess Pele. She is level 49 1/2 and will hit 50 before the end of the year. She has a serious attitude but she's damn sexy, too.

La Belladonna - Ill/Rad/Primal Forces. Bella is distantly related to a major villain in CoH canon. Her villainous family shares his last name and often uses it to promote their own interests. When her weak light manipulation mutation manifested when she was a tween, her parents and their allies took her and spent the next several years subjecting her to experiments and treatments to turn her into their own personal weapon, and they succeeded. Bella is genuinely a kind and compassionate person, but fear of further abuse forced her to be subservient to her parents and she reluctantly performed the criminal acts they commanded her to do. Eventually, she snapped and unintentionally blasted her family with blinding light and radiation. While they were still incapacitated, she stole whatever money she could find and fled to Paragon, adopting a new name and identity. She is a hair away from 46 (and would be higher but I turned off her XP to earn her some more influence for IOs).

My first 50 was an Energy/Energy Blaster, the android Photon X. I got him to 50 in early March of 2005, in a desire to make a Kheldian.

My second 50 was another Blaster, a Fire/Fire/Fire human/demon hybrid named Monster Child. Getting him to 50 just seemed to happen because I enjoyed playing him so much. One of the main reasons he's so enjoyable to play is because he switches between his human teenager form and demon form with a costume change. I made the most of the body sliders to change his size; as a result the demon looks nearly twice the size of the human.

My third 50 was my android Electric/Electric Brute, Future Shock. He was so fun to play that I hardly realized I was about to hit the level cap until he was suddenly 47. This was my fastest trip to 50.

My fourth 50 was yet another Blaster (coincidentally), and AR/Dev named Tommi Gunn. One of my original characters from the early days of CoH, she was a total slog until she got Full Auto, then it was full speed ahead to 50. Full Auto remains one of my all-time favorite L32 powers.

I expect my next 50 will be my Invincible/Super Strength Tanker Minotaurus, since he's 47.5 currently, followed closely by my MA/regen Scrapper and namesake, Ironik.

Both.

It's about the ones we've managed to stay focused on long enough to make the way to 50.

I've never calculated mine, but I'm fairly certain I don't have close to that many.

You HAVE to get a brute to 50 to revel in the carnage.

I guess I'll have to make due with 139 characters.
Whatever am I going to do?
I chose the option of getting more slots by having two accounts. It made life a lot easier when it came to finally setting up a personal SG.

Anyway, Future 50's.

I have a few projects that will be my next series of 50's:
Thugs/Therm MM - I'm thinking this one will be able to solo GM's when I'm done.
Assault Rifle/Cold Blaster - Soloing mobs I'll pull them onto ice slick where I can set them ablaze with flamethrower.
Dark/Sonic Corr - with power customization, that yellow ball can be even more noticeable.
Other than that, I've been having trouble lately coming up with things I want to try, so I've been enjoying this thread (I know I already said that).

I'm not sure I have altitis (not since I5-I7 anyway) but I am serial leveller, so I guess I've treated my altitis by reining it in with an Achiever-led focus on levelling. Basically I tend to only play 1-3 characters actively at a time, until they hit L50, but then they mostly go into retirement except for the few "purpled up" favourites who get pulled out for endgame TFs/SFs/Raids (though I have been known to pull some/all of my L50s out of retirement for new content or holiday events). When one of my focal levelling characters hits L50, they get replaced with a new character that starts the journey again - mostly this is done in regular duos with the same friend/SG-mate, so he shares my playstyle.

The only exception has been on recent dxp weekends when we've levelled a few new level-pacted characters from L1 to L20/22, to get them to Stamina and maybe L25 IOs ready for future play, but this is only because we have seen the lower level game so much that we want to rush past it (roll on GR - I'm desperate for some new Dev-created content).

In most MMOs I'm fairly single-minded about playing a single character to the level cap, though I dabble with a few low level alts after that before quitting the game, having lost my drive to endure the level grind again. In CoH/V I don't find levelling a grind, so I guess that explains the replay value, and I've hit the level cap 17 times. My L50s are as follows, but I'm not playing much of anything at the moment (due to an arm injury) so I'll wind back the clock a couple of months to when I last played regularly when I talk of which characters I still play.

Lord Mayhem - Fire/Fire Brute - I had wanted to play a demon character in an MMO (or any game) for so long and CoH was the first game that let me. Mayhem hit L40 in I6, L50 in I7, levelled the whole way in teams, and hasn't been played much since as he is rather too squishy for my liking, even though he did amazing damage in his prime. While levelling him I met most of my global friends, so he has become my forum name and my global handle because to most people who know me in CoH I will always be "Mayhem".

Baron Steelfist - Robotics/Dark Mastermind - a psychotic damaged cyborg with amnesia, made from an unwilling kidnap victim. Baron was my first mainly solo character (though he did a few levels in teams), hitting L40 in I6 and L50 in I7 (within weeks of Mayhem getting there) - I was bored by Bot/FF in CoV beta, but Bot/Dark interested me enough to get to L50, though I haven't felt like playing another MM since (I deleted a L20 Mercs/Traps soon after Baron hit 50, and a similar level Ninja/TA recently who had been holding down a name for my Arch/TA Corr). Baron only gets played when GM-killing teams need a -regen debuffer, if I don't feel like playing Havoc (see below).

Nightbow - Archery/Energy Blaster - an ex-Wyvern vigilante with cybernetic eyes that replaced ones he lost to a cruel Hellion, Manticore rescued him, paid for his treatment and later mentored him. Nightbow hit L50 entirely in I8, duoing all 50 levels with my friend's scrapper after the Faultline revamp encouraged us to try CoH for a change. I love his name, costume, bio and adore his playstyle (I am a Rain of Arrows addict) so Nightbow still gets played, solo & teamed, and has been fully "purpled up" - he is my go-to character for most TFs on blueside Defiant.

Trinary - tri-form Warshade - a silicon-based alien being who is host to both a genocidal sentient technovirus and a mass-murdering Nictus parasite (both of which he is trying to rehabilitate). Not just tri-form, Trinary is three life-forms in one body, and represents the most fun I ever had getting a character to L50. He levelled very quickly during I8, mainly in hazard zones, duoing the whole way with my friend's Fire/Kin Controller, and gets played occasionally on TFs when I'm feeling nostalgic for the old double-mire playstyle.

At this point I took a break from CoH/CoV from I9 to I12 - I had half a dozen characters around L30-35 on redside (due to duos and regular teams breaking up before L50 ), all of which hit L50 in a short period once I came back to CoH/V in I12.

Powerbreaker - Energy/Electric Brute - a former Crey engineer who they manipulated into becoming a villain after he gained superpowers in an accident. Levelled in a regular duo with my friend's SS/Elec Brute in I7 until L35, but he didn't want to play that Brute again when we returned to CoV in I12, so I soloed Powerbreaker the rest of the way, mostly in RWZ (mainly outdoors) as Rikti just couldn't hurt him and EM/ excelled on boss-heavy spawns. Powerbreaker was always one of my favourite characters for all the usual reasons (name, bio, costume and gameplay) and was my go-to character for SFs/Raids if I felt like playing a Brute. Sadly the EM/ nerfs ruined my enjoyment of playing him, but he still gets logged in regularly as he is my main redside marketeer.

Sergeant Havoc - Fire/Radiation Corruptor - a British super-soldier gone rogue in an experimental suit of nuclear-powered armour. Havoc hit L35 in I7 and L50 in I12, duoing the whole way up, with another Corruptor until L35, then because I wanted Havoc levelled fast and my friend wanted his L35 Dominator (from our Dom duo, which I didn't enjoy) levelled fast we paired them up in I12 for the last 15 levels. Havoc was my go-to character for SFs on Union from I12-I14 (by which point I had purpled up my Crab/Bane Spider and was tending to use that in preference). Havoc still gets wheeled out occasionally when a range of debuffs are needed (rather than just the -res my Bane Spider can provide) and I do enjoy playing him in teams.

Marshall Saint - Bane/Crab Spider - a grizzled old Arachnos Marshall who got on the wrong side of Arbiter Daos and now has to prove his loyalty to Recluse again. Saint levelled L1-50 quickly in I12 as a Crab Spider, duoing with my friend's Night Widow, but spends most of the time now as a Bane Spider. Since purpling up his Bane build in I14, and his Crab build in I15, Saint has become my main go-to character for SFs, Raids and pretty much everything I need a L50 for on redside Union - that's unless I feel like playing my Night Widow instead.

Winter Tiger - Claws/Willpower Scrapper - an experimental Soviet super-soldier, whose DNA was spliced with DNA from a Siberian Tiger, when the Berlin wall came down most of the scientists in his program fled Russia to work for Crey Biotech in Paragon and took their "project" with them (until he was rescued by Mynx). Another of my favourite characters (especially for his main costume), Winter Tiger was my solo project after Powerbreaker and did a lot of his levels during a dxp weekend, but afterwards he still got played often on TFs and is/was my go-to character for Mothership Raids on Defiant. Since getting my Night Widow to L50 I haven't had much impetus to play him, but as my main blueside marketeer he still gets logged in regularly.

Ghost Spider - Energy/Energy Stalker - an assassin enhanced with cybernetics (actually the Union-verse version of the Defiant-verse Nightbow, but Mako kidnapped him instead of Manticore rescuing him). Ghost Spider was part of a regular team of four in I6-7, up to L30 when a couple of the team members quit CoH and my remaining friend and I suspended the team in case they returned. I was in no rush to play him again, as I disliked Energy Aura, but I started soloing him a little once I came back to CoH in I12. I gradually got Ghost to L41 and was soloing +2 Toxic T's happily in GV the day before the EM nerf happened, but struggled to solo even-level ones reliably the next day - that damaged my enjoyment of the character, so I stopped playing him again. Stubborn determination made me level him the rest of the way to L50, partly during a dxp weekend, just so that I could consider him "finished" and I haven't played him since - I think he's the only one of my L50s that has never done the ITF.

Agent Godwin - Mind/Psionic Dominator - a master of disguise with mental powers who infiltrated Arachnos, Longbow, Malta, the Council, etc. for reasons unknown (good excuse for faction-themed costumes). I had always wanted a pure psionic character, but Godwin cured me of that; he levelled to L35 slowly in I7 in a duo with my friend's Plant/Thorn Dom (hence the slowness - two damage-deficient pre-buff Dominators) who seemed more capable than Godwin so I felt weak, like I was leeching and not pulling my weight. I hated that duo, but when we returned to CoH in I12 my friend wanted to play his Dom so we split the duo up to pair his Dom with my Corruptor (Havoc) and Godwin was abandoned. However I still hoped that PSW might redeem Godwin, so eventually I levelled him with my friend's Corruptor to L38, then PSW's pre-nerf wonderfulness carried him swiftly to L50. Sadly the character is still tainted by bad memories, so even after slotting him for permadom (with a few cheap purple sets) and using him on a few SFs, I haven't played Godwin since and probably never will again.

Raven Shadow - Super Strength/Dark Brute - an amateur boxer who became a vigilante hero in a bid to avenge his parents' murder, but failed at that and was subsequently experimented on by The Council, who implanted him with modified Nictus shards. I enjoyed playing Raven to L30 in I7 (mostly solo iirc), but when I came back in I12 I just never got around to playing him. Eventually I persuaded my friend to play his abandoned SS/Elec Brute again (Powerbreaker's ex-partner) as a duo partner for Raven and we levelled together to L50. I'd play Raven again, but whenever I need a L50 villain nowadays I always grab one of my beloved VEATs.

Arctic Prince - Ice/Storm Corruptor - a cold-hearted mutant and the evil Union-verse version of my Defiant-verse Ice/Ice Blaster (who isn't L50 yet). I really enjoyed levelling Arctic to L50 in a duo because of his 3 Rain powers, but he hasn't seen much use since. When I gave SF/TF teams a choice of Arctic or Havoc they always wanted me to play Havoc, and since I14 my VEAT obsession has sidelined both of them.

Krog the Conqueror - Battle-Axe/Willpower Brute - a brutal reptilian Galactic tyrant who made the fatal mistake of attacking the Rikti homeworld; the Lineage of War annihilated his empire, captured Krog (now the last of his race), tortured him as an example to other aliens, then recently the Restructurist faction released the dethroned dictator onto Primal Earth in a confused and raging state as both a diversion and a twisted joke. Krog did 37 of his levels in a single dxp weekend, and soloed the remaining 13 levels fast too, he is my favourite brute from purely a gameplay perspective and I would play him on Mothership Raids at least if my VEATs didn't exist.

Mistress Distress - Night Widow / Fortunata - a cruel upbringing in Haven House, followed by Arachnos brainwashing, forged an orphan into a killer who believes that she must be meaner than everyone else in order to survive. Levelled as a Night Widow in I14, in a duo with my friend's Crab Spider, Mistress now has the most expensive single build of any of my characters (almost 3bill inf for her 192.5% global recharge), an expense that will likely have doubled once I complete slotting her Fortunata build. She is my only female L50 and the only L50 on redside Union that gets played as much as Marshall Saint.

Magma Colossus - Earth/Fire Dominator - a Japanese vulcanology professor who sacrificed one of his students to a volcano god to save his own life during Mount Azuma's 1977 eruption, he is now the avatar of that god, a huge 8ft tall Magma Colossus (though the Super-Science booster has allowed him to turn back into the skinny 5ft Japanese professor he once was). So much fun to level, even before the Dom buffs in I15 which happened when he was L35ish, Magma single-handedly restored my faith in the Dominator archetype (so much so that I now have a L22 Plant/Elec, with plans for an Ice/Earth). Again, if my VEATs didn't exist I would play this character more often.

Punchy the Loon - War-Mace/Super Reflexes Brute - a mischievous brat from Haven House who disrupted a tawdry Punch & Judy show that Phipps had arranged to distract the children while Arachnos took some of them away for psychic testing (which was when Mistress Distress, above, was taken). Vengeful Phipps called in a favour from Darrin Wade and had the boy cursed to look like a Mr Punch puppet, hoping it would drive him insane, but Punchy has embraced his fate becoming a hired thug. Punchy was inspired by my forum avatar here, with a main costume to match, but he felt rather weak until I soft-capped his defences at L40ish and sorted out the last of his end issues (fortunately he duo'd to L50 with a /Kin Corr), then he became a beast, rivalling Krog in damage and survivability. No points for guessing why I don't play him much now.

Stormcharger - Electric/Ninjitsu Stalker - a Ninja hired to assassinate Tub Ci, who failed and had his arms cut off to serve as a lesson to other assassins; while imprisoned by the Tsoo he discovered his Mu ancestry, manifested arms of red lightning, and fought his way free - he now has cybernetic arms powered by his magical lightning. My second attempt at a Stalker was amazingly successful; while Ghost assassinated single targets, Stormcharger assassinates whole spawns. I had so much fun levelling him to L50 in a duo. Ditto on the reason I don't play him much at L50, though of all my L50 non-VEAT villains I would be most tempted to play him again.

My next L50 on blueside Defiant is very likely to be my Illusion/Rad Controller (currently at L32, in a duo with an Illu/Kin - my friend and I decided to both play Illusion Control with our own favourite buff/debuff set). On redside Union my next L50 will be either my Plant/Electric Dominator or my Archery/TA Corruptor (both L22, levelled on the last dxp weekend). Those are the 3 focal duos atm. Next in line (once my injured arm allows me to play again) are my Shield/SS Tanker and Dark/Sonic Defender, which will eventually give me a clean sweep of every non-epic AT at L50, then I just need a Peacebringer at L50 for the full set. I did create a PB a few months ago, as a Defiant-verse version of Powerbreaker (for added impetus to play it to L50), and that same day I made a Claw/Invul Brute as a Union-verse version of Winter Tiger, so that two of my favourite characters might live again. Sentimental? Me? Maybe a little

Though I definitely feel the need to play more Dominators, Brutes and especially Blasters - I don't think I'll be done with this MMO for a loooooong time.

Forgive the long self-indulgent post, but... well, you asked

I have two level 50 toons.

My first is a Dark/Regen Scrapper named Battlesneeze Jessie who lives on Victory server. I do not recall how I got her name, I think I got a notebook a pen, a Mountain Dew, and started brainstorming, so no story there

My second 50 is a Fire/Fire Scrapper also on Victory. She is named ChiliCheeseDog Annie. When Fire was given to scrappers, I was very excited. I flew into the character creator, threw together an outfit, and was suddenly stumped as to what to name her.

So I named her the first thing that popped into my head, and off I went.

My hubby wanted me to reroll and name her something else, but, the more I played her, the more it grew on me, and I started getting Tells from people who liked the name.

Ultimate Damz:

This is my main character who is by far my favourite character that i have ever made. First one to reach level 50 and has roughly 316 badges [for me thats a lot], he is an illusion/radiation/fire mastery controller. On the union server he is the character with which most of my friends recognise me for, not because i use it the most [which i dont at the moment because of alts] but because i try and design the character to the way that i see myself if i was in a universe like this [i have other forms of damz though too].
Playstyle wise, it fits me perfectly. I feel both overpowered and underpowered at the same time which is what i want. I know that as soon as i take my mind off for a second that i will really struggle, however i also know that if even a GM ambushed me that i could stand my ground. Has been said that this character can keep up with an average [note, not a good/experienced] fire/kin in a farming map which i do pride myself on.

Noob Buster:

My second level 50 and the character that was made from my forum title on the EU forums before the merger. At the time i was constantly changing my forum handle and a few people were giving out names and somebody [cant remember who] mentioned noob buster and i took it and ever since people tend to call me the noob buster/the noob when im standing around in atlas, hence i HAD to make a character called it.
He is a fire/dark/fire scrapper and i am still unsure which direction to take his final steps too. So far i've fully respec'd him a few times to test out different styles of play. Firstly i was able to get all his resistances to over 50% without sacrificing damage which i did really like, second i tried for getting as much recharge as possible which again i liked but didnt like my health bar going down so fast even though i do have dark regeneration and thirdly i went for a build for defence which again i was a bit iffy on.
Great for taking on large groups but he does struggle against mobs with very high burst damage. However in a drawn out battle then he is awesome!

Lord Lightman:

My first and only blaster that got to a high level! He is an AR/NRG blaster and boy is he a powerhouse! Boost range + full auto = a godsend! He is now my main competition funder for when i want some quick influence for a quick competition.
Has spent many times just herding and shooting down "romans" and never gets boring!
Has built him for max damage output and have capped out his ranged damage, which for his build/style of play i think is perfect since large majority of the mob SHOULD be dead before they get to melee range.
Is the only mid - high level character that i have that doesnt have my signature damz in the name. Great fun to play and love the character.

Is this one of those threads everyone posts in, but not many people actually read? Sure, I'm game. I won't list character names, but I'm usually not hard to find if you know where to look--I tend to stick out like a sore thumb for a few reasons.

My first level 50 is a Claws/Dark Armor Scrapper, actually a Winter Lord baby from way back in the day. Good thing, too: those first 20 levels were pretty boring for me by that time, what with the altitis and all. He's also my "main," a character intended to be a Warrior Poet, and my most recognizable character on Protector. Wave hi!

My second level 50 is a Warshade on Virtue. I love "Swiss Army characters," and the tri-form Warshade was a blast for me. Unfortunately, I've pretty much stopped playing the character since I hit 50. No matter how much I like the character's backstory--and how much thinking about it helped me grow as a person--I couldn't escape the feeling that there wasn't much for a level 50 to do.

My third level 50 is my only Villainous 50, a Brute, Protector native, and my "signature Villain." Dark Melee/Electric Armor felt more impressive than anything I'd played to that point, but I haven't gone through the trouble of respeccing him and throwing in IOs to really make him fire on all cylinders. In all honesty, if I can take my main Hero to the Rogue Isles and get the badges there, I'll be disincentived to do so.

My fourth level 50 is an Ice/Storm Controller, again on Virtue. This character suffers from the same problem my Warshade does: I like the character, but it feels a little like the game is over. Besides, the character's concept and story ended in a logical place: not quite "happily ever after," but close enough. Still, I never stop giggling at whiting out an entire room with Ice Patch, Freezing Rain, Snow Storm, Ice Storm, and sometimes even Tornado and Hurricane. Life just sucks for any enemies in there at that point.

Aww, I read it.

Yup, my evil plan to pad post counts legitimately is coming to fruition. Mwahahaha.

Toying with the idea of a claws/dark brute, but I haven't been happy yet with the build.

For a min/maxer like myself, level 50 is just the beginning. Just how good can I make my character and adjust my playstyle to squeeze out as much 'super' out of it? For a triformshade, the possibilities are mind boggling.

If you check the Triumph forum, and read the stick about Triumphs's lvl 50 hero directory, i'm on the 2nd to last page of that. I have... 31, or 32 50's. 20 to 21 heros, and 10-11 villians. I haven't counted recently.

Belive it or not, i don't PL. I've just been around since day one, and once i'm "finished" with a hero or villian, i move on to a new one. When i say finished... i mean, once they reach a proformance level i'm happy with, at lvl 50. Once that's done, my 50's get relagated to TF duty. And i start a new alt. I'll focuse on about 2 to 3 alts at one time, until they get finished, then start a new set. (1 hero 2 villians, or 2 heros 1 villian. Lately i've been playing more red side to try and even up my sides... but i doubt that'll ever happen. I enjoy the hero side to much to run exclusively red...)

Wash rince repeat for 6 years and ta da! My first was Zero G, a Gravity/Kin troller, and he's still the hero i consider my "main" or leader, in a since, of my little hero stable. My first Villian is Moltron, Fire/Thermal Corr, and main baddie. If you want to know the rest, check the board i mentioned up top. I've got nearlly all of them listed. A few of my in progress guys i have listed there are 50 now. And i've made... maybe half a dozen new guys in prep for GR. (they are kind of place holders, to be remade when GR goes live... that is if i don't get to them before hand... LOL)

My only level 50 and my only main...WP/SS Tank. It's iconic. It's the powers that I wish I could have. The only character I consistantly play. Basically the only character I ever play. Some think I'm crazy for only using one character for the better part of two years but in doing so it helped me build up inifinite influence, to further my consistant play of this character, in being able to completely IO him out.
This character would be my only level 50 if it wasn't for Going Rogue.

Just under four years and the members of my Main Cast from Grey's Army are all level 50.

Randall Grey (Stone/Strength Tanker) took me five months. The rest, considerably longer.

Kipland Durj (Martial Arts/Invulnerability) was my harshest run (I think I hit the debt cap two or three times with him), largely because of the incredibly awful initial design of Invulnerability. After the Invulnerability changes, though... Oh man, he can tear some crap up...

Power Breaker (Energy Melee/Energy Aura Brute), my first villain, wound up stalling because my old rig couldn't handle the strain of Grandville. RWZ helped him somewhat, but once he hit 47, I knew I needed a new machine. Two weeks after my new computer arrived, Power Breaker was my first Villain to reach level 50.

Nester Durj (Emp/Rad Defender) and Cory Simmons (Fire/Ice Blaster) rode the waves of experience from various teams, Cory hitting 50 through a Shard TF I believe and Nester through a Lady Grey Task Force.

Cedric Grey (Invulnerability/Axe Tanker) was quick. He went from 1 to 20 rapidly, and then just seemed to blur through the levels after that. He hit 50 before I knew it.

Zeke Durj (Warshade) went by more quickly than I expected, too. Oddly enough, once I gave him Shadow Cloak, he was able to solo easily and tear through all the spawns, even the Void Hunters and Quantum Gunners before they got gutted by the developers (I'm still thankful the minion Q-Gunners and Void Hunters can no longer tear a full third chunk out of their health).

Finally, there was Operative Taylor (recently renamed as Daniel Taylor; Bane Spider). At about the same time, a friend made a similar character and we teamed up. The two cut a swath across the Isles and in less than a month, Daniel was in the forties... About two weeks after that, he was level 50.

The rest all got through the levels with about the same process. A mix of soloing, repeat Imperious Task Forces and hopping onto whatever other applicable task forces they could got them through the 35+ range. Roland Grey (Trick Arrow/Arrow Defender) assisted with a couple Statesman Task Forces, hitting 50 on one as well (I can't remember if I'd made it so he got 50 when Recluse fell or not). The rest got 50 when they could. Some through Protector's Raid the Rikti event, others through Task Forces.

Once Sarah Grey-Durnan (Mind/Sonic Controller) hit 50, everything seemed to pick up speed from there.

Charlene Daring-Grey (Peacebringer) was an interesting one, as I toyed with deleting her a number of times because Peacebringers are ludicrously underpowered.

Mattock McGinty (Katana/Super Reflexes Scrapper) could do plenty solo. I tried to level him up last of that cluster as often as possible. Toward the end, I was using him to carve a swath through the Knives of Artemis. I enjoyed fighting them just a little too much as Matt. I think it's something about "similar tactics" that had me doing it.

Finally, Sheldon Wallace (Gravity/Kinetics Controller) hit 50 tonight. He got it on a Protector's Raid the Rikti, just like Mad Matt (though Matt's was on a special Thursday edition).

It's been a fun run. It's nice to have my Main Cast all to their highest potential. I don't know who my next 50 will be... It could be Ryat66 or Ryat99, or it could be Shadeheart (Night Widow) or Brother Mauthe (Thugs/Traps MM). In either case, I can rest easy that my Main Cast stood the test of this game and their builds proved sufficient.

Heheh. I can almost understand why he did it. Not counting the 31 or 32 50's i HAVE, i have about 6 - 8 alts made, waiting there turn, and have prolly deleted, permenetly 10 or more alts. What i mean by permently, is, i'd given up on that concept. I reroll concepts all the time... refinging them. Savage Raven, is a good example. He's my BS/Shield scrapper. He started as a BA/Invlun tank... A BS/Regen... a BS/Invlun... then finially a BS/Shield that stuck. Gracken, was a BA/Invlun tank... then a BS/Invlun... then finially a Kat/Invlun... ect ect ect. My worst case of this was my Ice/Ice/Ice baby blaster... >.> I made him back at the very start of the game, after Zero G. He's been deleted, and rerolled.. as an Ice/Ice/Ice blaster... 3 or 4 times.. the SAME GUY... for some reason, i keep going back to it... until i finially completed him 4 years later...

I can be finicky sometimes.

Anyways, my point was, i've had to come up with, prolly over 50 different and distinct names... which, i might add, is ALWAYS the most time concuming part of making a new guy. It takes me hours sometimes to get a name i like.......

So yeah, I can see why he did his that way. Me? NEVER. Got to have a comicbooky name.

I'm not as much of a min/maxer, but if I have a character I enjoy playing and a goal in mind, I could probably put together a good build. (That's also why I can't really offer much advice on a Claws/Dark Armor Brute, aside from "Dark Regeneration is your friend." Oppressive Gloom is great for a Scrapper, but might interfere with Fury generation.)

Yeah, but I'm not sure we're doing it right - while we're typing up our wordy posts someone like Golden Girl has run through twenty threads and has stuck a sentence on each one. I think we need to petition for post counts to be removed - that'll teach her!

I feel the same way as you guys, for me it's all about the journey and exploring a character's build as I level them (even if I did fast-track a few with dxp). 50-itis might be a good term to describe it, because as I put at the start of my earlier post I don't think I have altitis as such.

After going through the process of creatively "giving birth" to a character I almost feel like I have a responsibility - even a duty - to get them to level 50, especially once they make it past L20 (which is my cut-off point for deleting characters) - hence why I still levelled my first stalker (Ghost Spider) and my first dominator (Agent Godwin) that I didn't really enjoy playing. Why are you all looking at me like that? Ok it is a bit weird...

So yeah, I can see why he did his that way. Me? NEVER. Got to have a comicbooky name.
I can understand that, but then I'm probably worse than you - I can spend weeks thinking up suitable names. That's because I used to delete dozens of characters solely because I played them 10-20 levels and I wasn't entirely happy with their names. These days (especially with using level pacts with my friend) I like to be sure I have a name I like that fits the character before I start levelling them.

So I have to make up characters months in advance, because it takes me so long to get both a name and costume that I'm happy with. If my friend wanted us to start a new duo (or if we finished an existing duo), then if I didn't have any pre-made characters he'd probably be kept waiting 2-4 weeks while I created a character from scratch. So I never stop thinking about new characters I want to make, what powersets they'd have, what their theme will be, what their costume might be like, what name I could get for them, etc. I'll sit with a thesaurus, various dictionaries (English, Icelandic/Norse, Latin, rhyming dictionary, etc.), encyclopedia and the character creator open, plus a notepad, and come up with shortlists of a dozen available names and agonise over which one to pick for a character whose costume I have finalised and at least partially written the bio for. Yes, I've got it pretty bad
