i can't see a big fuss about it all really, i mean i can play on the slops and i get my snowball earlier, so i get exter play time.

anyway im not to sure if oil arrow on my nin/TA is showing up correct on the snow in the winter relm. it not as bubble/gooness as it is on other maps. and i don't know if it set on fire either. it might be lag and it fine or i just having a massive graphics explosion on my screen

I think they'd only use them if they rolled back the patch - which they'd only do if there was a serious bug in it - and as there doesn't seem to be any reports of serious bugs, I'm like 99% sure you'll keep the badges

i done it five time with a full team and another team and got badge all the time, so it can be done.. but in ur case did you all leave the lord winter and take out the winter guard things as when they around the winter lord is phased out so no damage can be done. they seem to apper at 75% 50% 25% health of the winter lord

Sounds like the Reichsman had a little influence on this GM... over 200k hp, massive end drain, and has a phase power. So this should be nothing new to anyone. Seems to be another one of the devs failed attempts to revamp an event (2009 Halloween Event).

We did it with only 7 people in the zone...

But the trick is... to PANIC! Like, scream and flail your arms with circular motion. hahah...

I remember looking at the timer the whole time clicking every power i see in my power tray. I was encouraging my teamates to panic and we did it with 5 seconds remaining lol.

Panic helps!

Winter Horde inside the BBNY mission are dropping Candy Canes.

Excellent move, I'm working of firming up an estimate of the drop rate.


I hated clicking presents for canes.

Once people get the idea about how to take down the GM the best, this won't be an issue. They'll bring what's appropriate. This happens with anything that's new the first few runs through.


Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

I was in the chalet earlier with Teen, and found a slight problem. The list from the Candy Cane store was timing out on me. I asked if anyone else was experiencing this, and got at least one 'yes'.

Also, I noticed that I was offered the chance to buy an item with a previous Winter Event badge, even though I have everything from years past.

i have to say i realy like the way teh event works, but i do have to ask why not put in a new ski slop?it has been my fav part of the winter event.

Yes. We killed the Guardian when it appeared.

After the fail, several of us logged into Defender/Controller alts and we tried again. This time we felled the Winter Lord without any difficulty.


So, you think you are strong because you can survive the soft cushions? We shall see!

I only managed to fit in one Lord Winter test: 13 villains, 11 of which were level 50, heavy on brutes, versus one Lord Winter. Result: humiliating fail for the villains; we barely made it past the first Winter Guardian. Lord Winter himself was merely annoying; the huge swarms of Northern Lights were killing us, focus-firing down anybody who attacked them, and healing him if we didn't.

Suggestion: is it possible to cap the maximum number of these Lord Winter can have out at one time? Ideally to a low enough number that a single salvo from each of them won't insta-gib a Granite brute?

I think we'll keep them as well, barring a rollback. It just never hurts to know for sure.

well i had hoped that this year when we purchased the winter's gift recipes we could pick what lvl we wanted,and it would not be the lvl of the buyer

I just tried it, and all I have to show for my effort on my 50 is 394K+ debt. We got him down to 25%, went to deal with the first guardian, and when we got back to him he was almost back up to full.

Unless the devs take a serious look at things, this is going to be a big dissapointment for many players, just like the Hallowe'en Deadly Apocolypse event was.

I think I've done this event, 5 times now today and the teams I put together never have a difficult time completing the event. And I've organized it both Hero and Villain side on Victory. To those complaining that this event is too hard, you just have to accept you'll need 12 odd players to complete it. 16 is even better. But I imagine it's do-able with a team and a half. Heck with the right team I imagine it's do-able with one full team.

But seriously, if I can organize one of these Victory red-side during the afternoon, most people shouldn't have a problem getting the players to do it.

10 odd merits [With Defeating the GM] and 20 Candy Canes is a good incentive for people to do this event.

Those Northern Lights pack a punch, and without any serious debuff Lord Winter is tough.

All that's fine, I suppose, but if you don't get a major involvement response... its debt and no glory. Team and half, bumpkis to show for it.

And the normal Winter Lords are buffed far more than I remember from previous years.

I am almost out the door for work and do not have enough time to read all the posts here, but this morning when I got the pop up about the Winter Event I was logging in on a Villain. I ran about Post Oakes looking for gifts and only found two.

Gave up, and went to Pocket D and did the Baby New Years event.

The villain I was unsing was only a level 9 Stalker, so I went Hero side and grabbed my level 47 Dark/SR soft capped Valkii.

For some reason I had not changed her difficulty settings and did not want to take the time to do so since I had to go to bed soon..graveyard shifts are a pita.

So, on Ultra Easy Peasy mode, I ran the mission for all the badges, and one extra to find out if you could still make candy cane runs.

I am so ready for this to go live. Having a few Winter Lords drop Candy Canes was a magnificant touch.

And having Baby New Year appear on the map was priceless. I recall last year having to search and search for the straggler.

Badge runs, Candy Cane run, plus an extra run all on Ultra Easy Peasy Mode got me 20 candy Canes

Valkii got her badges and her Halo!

She is stylin' in all her winter finery ala the Santa Boots and Gloves and her Halo.

Of to work with meeeee.

My thoughts on the matter:

1> I agree with some of the posters in asking for a map marker (or a nav bar marker) stating where Lord Winter (and his guardians) are. Either that, or make the timer longer in duration.

2> I only had time to try it once, and my team (and one other - total of 2 teams) failed. For those of us who did not read the posts before logging in, we had to broadcast in the zone to attack the Guardian when Lord Winter was phased. Not that we really would have had a chance to defeat the instance. At the timer expiration, we had LW down to about 30% life. The teams were PUGs, but the team mixes were balanced. We did not drop Warburg nukes nor did we summon Shivans. I was playing a WP/Axe tanker, so all the Northern Lights & LW pets really helped buff my +regen (at least, I think the NL did). However I can attest that there was a lot of other character defeats due to the insane amount of lights and pets.

3> I did do the Rescue Baby New Year mission in Pocket D. I had candy canes drop as salvage from Boss (?) lvl critters in the mission... four total in fact over all. I think that is a good addition.

Overall, a welcome (if minor) overall addition to the Winter Event. I think it needs to have a longer timer, and map (or nav) markers.

Lord Winter:
5 back to back runs on Triumph Blueside. He went down really fast with the sheer numbers wailing on him. Co-ordination seemed not to be much of an issue.

20 candy canes is a decent return, 8 merits (for the 3 guardians plus him) is logical and its certainly a reasonable return for the event.


All in all I enjoyed this test, and look forward to the event coming live pretty much as is.

Did this again earlier tonight. I think that the northern lights pets and such were a bit out of hand. There were a bunch of them range attacking, and taking out people inside the hospital area and/or before a person could rez and get back to LW. The first two 25%'s of LW were going well until the pets got too numerous to manage. That's as far as we got the whole event. Everyone got nothing but debt to show for it.

Okay, did it a second time, and our two near-full teams were able to finish him with about 45 seconds to spare. However, it seems that I still have the same level of debt after the event.

I'm wondering if it should be debt-free like during a rikti/zombie event or during the Hallowe'en event?

I also agree that the WL you fight before the enent seems to be tougher than in years past. Also, it seems like he can summon other blights and frostlings almost at will.

I like a challenge, but not a total frustration-fest.
