So where my other runstyles is at?
crossing fingers and hoping for a big Clown shoe lope.
Actually, if it could be a different walk toggle where your character pulled out a set of bagpipes and started playing Scotland the Brave and walked forward while playing.
Tell you what I don't know what Emperor Cole would make of a large group of Resistance heroes being led into battle by the sound of the Bagpipes...
...well I do know...he'd and any of his men would terrified...nothing like Bagpipes and kilts to scare the hell out of people who have never seen/heared them before.
Some people say the sound of Bagpipes is unsettling...personally I love 'em.
I fully agree on that, Ninja Run is perfectly suitable for a couple of my Ninja-Esque toons. For others, it looks totally out of place. It would be lovely to have a run like this with other options.
/em So here is my share of money.
Most of the people who I hear comment about the new Ninja Run power are pleased because it's a 'free' travel power. That's nice and all, but I like it because it's FREAKIN' PERFECT for ninjas! It looks fantastic. The animation details are WONDERFUL. It is the perfect customization for ninja characters. It is acrobatic, stealthy, and wonderfully ninja-like. You can roofhop. You can sprint through tall grass to assassinate your enemies. (Shame you can't toss shuriken whilst running.)
BABs, did you animate this? If so you and whoever helped you deserve a big fat raise from NCSoft. That said, it isn't the end-all-be-all of travel. While acrobatic, Ninja Run doesn't suit, say, a gymnast or a traditional acrobat, both of whom would have run stances more about balance and grace. They'd be more 'hoppy' and better able to stick landings, or manage secondary or tertiary leaps off the scenery. Nor does it suit a sprinter, whose upright running stance is all about focusing raw power into speed. Nor would it suit a variety of other character customization needs. Many of those can be approximated with combinations of Combat Jumping, Swift, Hurdle, or other movement powers. Since you guys are willing to animate this sort of thing for cash... how about it? More running styles, emotes, or what have you. I'd pay for a Super Booster or mini expansion that was nothing but differently-themed run styles if they're as awesome as Ninja Run. /em puts his money on the table. |
2) There are other threads where people have asked for/talked about some sort of customization for Ninja Run and travel powers in general. Yesterday, BABs stated the following in one of those threads:
That's my point. We don't have any travel powers with multiple animations, be it in a single power or multiple powers. All of the prestige sprints have different visual effects, but use the same animations. I think some of you guys are making the assumption that because we can have different visual effects for travel powers, and other powers can have both different VFX and different animations, that travel powers could also have different animations...but that's not the case. Movement modes are not the same as powers. |

GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I would like to see Super Speeders run like athletes/The Flash instead of the hyper-waddle for men and ultra-runway walk for women. DCUO has shown that kind of animation in their videos, and CO has it on the 1st and 2nd charge of Super Speed. (LOL at the 3rd and final charge, though. What a waste.)
Yes, I realize that based on that comment by BAB, this probably isn't something they can do without changing the animation for everyone, meaning they probably won't ever change it. Alas.
Please try my custom mission arcs!
Legacy of a Rogue (ID 459586, Entry for Dr. Aeon's Third Challenge)
Death for Dollars! (ID 1050)
Dr. Duplicate's Dastardly Dare (ID 1218)
Win the Past, Own the Future (ID 1429)
Considering how much work goes into basic run animations, it might be more than $9.99.

I want this as long as it is accompanied by /em kiltlift.

Of course it'd be unbalanced because any character that's scottish somehow instantly becomes tougher than any other character plus the mission giving contacts would only have one line of dialogue...
"I'm sorry, I can't understand a word you're saying could you repeat that?"
...thus would have a hard time getting missions since Americans apparently have a hard time understanding a thick scottish accent, even the Brits like meself have trouble with a particularly thick scot accent.

Considering all the other boat loads of work they HAVE managed in the past couple years, I honestly am quite hopeful. But I bet it would be AT LEAST a year if not more before we saw this sort of customization...

A Scotland booster pack, the Bagpipe playing walk toggle, the kilt lift click power (causes Fear in a cone effect), Scottish flag cape and a better selection of traditional highland dress.

"Ah kinna tell ye, lassie," he says. "Ye'll have te look fer yuirsel'."
He lift the front of his kilt a tad, and the girl peeks under. She recoils, and shouts, "OH MY GOD, IT'S GRUESOME!"
The Scotmans smiles and says, "Oh, aye, and if ye'll look agin' ye'll find it's gruesome more."
LOL!
Nice one. I'll have to tuck that away in the deep dark corners of my mind for the "right moment."

No, BABs didn't animate this. It was the creation of an as-yet-unnamed animator, who also did the Dual Pistols animations.

We should call this person GUNRUNNER. Which is better than Pew Pew Ninja.

Now don't get me wrong about this - I'm actually glad CoX ripped off that power because it was one of the few things that Champions Online did that was vaguely cool. For everything else that CO has "copied" about CoX I think it was only fair that this game manage to steal something for themselves.

As for not having a travel power with different animations I would consider the different fly poses as different animations, they just aren't tied down.
